figured that we should probably start a thread just to discuss the whirlwind surrounding stek at the moment. i've seen stuff scattered in several different places, so let's start a home here. i was stoked when we signed stek. top 5 keeper in the world is what everyone said. he had a tough year last year, but i was chalking that up to the terrible defense in front of him. being a gk is all about confidence, and i felt like he just never got an opportunity to gain that confidence with the porous defense he was left with. this year i had REALLY high expectations. met him this summer in boston and became an even bigger fan. but with all the drama that's been surrounding him, and zeman's comments about him not integrating himself into the team and learning italian, i'm finally at the point where i'm ready to see him go. that's not to say i trust goicochea, i REALLY don't, but i feel like stek's time is over in rome. i think we should wait until the summer transfer window to sell him so that we can get more money out of the deal. hopefully then, we can bring in another first team keeper in his place.
hahaha!!! if he keeps the #24, maybe i can cash in! EDIT: looks like the fulham board is dead in the water...
I have given him the benefit of the doubt, until now. Obviously has was never guaranteed playing time otherwise he would have a contractual malfeasant to complain about. Why not STFU and win your place back like a man not a spoiled cry baby?...no offense to anyone but this attitude is not in shortage in Holland. It seems to be a factor behind the hate and discontent in their locker room. Show some guts, grit, and determination. I would and could respect that in a big way. I have never been impressed by him on or off the field but was certainly willing to give him ample time and consideration. And I was more than impressed and excited by Sabatini's capture of him. But he has left the reservation and is now a disruptive force and a distraction. Time to go.
A big drama about nothing but no screw that..... lets burn him at the stake, chase him out of Rome, yeah he's a disgusting human being......
I was very happy when we got him, all based on his wc2010 form. This beats up anything I'd say to defend him though.
And Perin is ready for Roma cause he has played a handful of good games? The road to disaster right there. The one position I take age and experience any day of the week is in nets. We dont want Roma to become a feeder club. Perin has proved nothing in football and does not deserve to wear the gloves of As Roma yet.
I agree there, I mean who knows Perin might come out to be just another Amelia ( remember the hype on him during livorno days? )
Yeah, Ivan the terrible, I had so much hope in him, I've learned my lesson...Perin might turn out just like him or he might be the real deal but stay and prove himself, learn at a smaller club and then in 3-4 years if he has proved his consistency, then he might be an option
I refrain myself from getting on either the Goicoechea or the Stek camp, but one thing is true, after last week's comments by Stek and today's shit performance of Goico vs. Bologna — This week the Italian press will drill both Zeman and Goico over the GK issue.
And let Maarten pack his bags and f*** off from Rome, as Goi's disastrous display today was largely secondary to his comments and the pressure created
Perin could become a disaster, but there really isn't any quality GKs with experience on the market right now. So we might just have to build our own. There is also Viviano but I don't think he's much of a world beater either.
I agree with all this but let's be honest, that's about the time Buffon will hang it up and Rube will scoop him.
What about the kid we have bought from eastern europe? or our Primavera GK last year, who seemed to be very promising
So his Italian or lack of it is holding him back? Who has picked up Italian the fastest? Can we have an expert here please? Points for fluency, blagging and trying to understand what the fck the the question is in the first place: Taxi (arrived in Italy 2010) Braders (arrived in Italy 2011) Pjanic (arrived in Italy 2011):
