Apparently Home Depot isn't renewing it's naming agreement with AEG so it will no longer be called the Home Depot Center. AEG said they are finalizing a deal with a new naming partner. Let's get all the random speculation, and ideas for what would be a good name for the place formerly known as the HDC. http://www.lagalaxy.com/blog/beat/2013/01/24/home-depot-center-likely-undergo-name-change
Victoria's Secret? I think we could all imagine a healthy display of revelatory benefits, newly discovered assets, increased capacity and exciting synergies. Ahem.
Thank God the stadium rights naming deal didn't come up during Beckham's early years, or this would be a genuine possibility.
That was my thinking too, but I wonder if there’s a diminishing return on having stadium naming rights and kit sponsorship?
How about the "Landon Donovan Please Come Back and Play Or We'll Shorten This Title To The Bianca Kaljich Memorial Stadium." ?
The HDC, broadly construed as a "center," has a lot more than just soccer. So, this would allow cross-promotion for things like the high school football games, the tennis, the concerts/tractor pulls, and, of course, the national team soccer games.
It'll quickly be shortened to simply "The Hub," which I'm fine with and even like. Hell, the slogan would be awesome - "Stub Hub Center: The Hub where if you're not the Galaxy, the only thing you'll leave with is the Stub." Or "The Hub: Get Stubbed." But lets take a moment of silence for the cathedral formerly known as the Home Depot Center, affectionately called "The Toolbox" by fans, and jealously called the same by haters. Home Depot Center: Boxing San Jose Tools in for the Galaxy since 2003. Also offering backpocket protectors (courtesy of the defense) since 2009.
What do you speculate the new naming rights will be worth? The HD one was 7 mil a year and our stature has grown since that contract was signed. Something >10 mil would be nice. Then they could update some of the old boards and install bigger replay tvs so you don't have to squint every time to watch it.
I'd imagine we should easily get more then $10 million a year, like someone else mentioned there's so much more going on at the HDC then just soccer which gives us a big advantage over most teams (then again I have no idea how/if the money from that gets handed out to the team).
The current deal runs through May? So that would mean a mid-season name change. Hope the team doesn't get lost on the way home from a road trip.
i have it on a good authority (not really) that it will be called "Chivas USA can have this place, The Galaxy is moving to Farmers Field" OR as it will be known in 2015 "Please come watch us, we promise the Galaxy will play here at least once a season!"
