It definitely isn't true. As things stand now the USA will continue to be the host

Almost a shame for it to go to the USA every time, one of the great things about major tournaments is the unique hosts. Changed on wiki now so obviously a joke by someone.

    Yes.

Unless they do something radical like Uefa has instituted for Euro 2020 in which 13 venues from across the continent get to host.

Why does Canada has an "automatic qualification" to the Gold Cups? when better National Teams like Honduras and Costa Rica have to play a qualification tournament.

Especially when we saw last nite what shit those 2 teams are.

It's time for Mexico, u.s. and Canada to play in the Central American and Carib qualifiers. Mex to C.A., us/can to Carib. Of course, both tourneys will get 1 and 2 extra spots. Which would make 6 each.

If any of these 3 teams clinch a Gold Cup spot, then they go home, and give their remaining berth to the next best team in the CA/Carib tourney, so that an outsider won't take their Cup.

But at least they'd've qualified for the GC.

A better idea would be to give Canada a home-and-home against the 6th place UNCAF team for a Gold Cup spot. Or if you really want to go through the formality of having every team qualify, have USA, Mexico, and Canada play a group to see who qualifies outright, and who goes to the playoff.

Nah, just expand it to 16 teams and have all 10 non CFU qualify directly and then add a CFU tournament (6 groups maybe) to get the other 6.

Gold Cup group games are already iffy to watch, most of the good games are after the group stage anyways.

Canada qualifies because all NAFU teams get spots. I'd like to see Greenland join CONCACAF and play off against Canada for a Gold Cup spot.

I like it! Although having the USA and Mex playing against other Concacaf teams for a spot in the Gold Cup it's pointless and will increase the already over saturated schedule for the national teams, the 6th place UNCAF team should have the opportunity to play against Canada for a spot. Or let Canada play in the UNCAF tournament. Now, I think it will be a little unfair for Canada and the UNCAF teams to let Mexico and the USA have direct spots, they should make a rule that Previous Gold Cup finalists get a direct sport to the next Gold Cup tournament.

The Gold Cup is nothing more than a cash out for greedy Island nations. It's not a question of whats fair, it's a question of what's the most profitable. The US and Mexico will never be required to qualify for this tourney because by the 1% chance one of the two fail to qualify CONCACAF would lose a ton of money. I think Canada just benefits from being in North America with US and Mexico

Oddly enough the last and only time Canada had to pre-qualify for the Gold Cup was for the 2000 edition, where they had to play two Caribbean and a central america team with the top two making the finals. Canada won that group and then went on to win the overall thing.....

Maybe CONCACAF can start doing something similar:
Northern America: USA and MEX to Gold Cup; CAN to playoffs
Copa Centroamericana: Top 4 to Gold Cup; 5th and 6th to playoffs
Caribbean Cup: Top 4 to Gold Cup; 5th to playoffs

So that would be 10 automatic berths with the final 2 coming from the remaining 4 teams mentioned above.

Of course they need to somehow fit this into the calendar.... maybe late February hosted by one of the participants?

As a fan, I partially agree with you that is a good choice, because it's a good choice for USA and Mexico due to the favorable atmosphere that both teams have in the United States. It's a good choice for Concacaf's financial ambitions, but definitely an unfair, questionable, and a choice that holds back the football development in other Concacaf countries.
If it was up to me, I will keep the current format; with small changes. Keep playing (for now) the Gold Cup every two years, keeping the tournament that gives a spot in the Confederation's Cup in the United States (for now). The other Gold Cup tournaments should be host by Central American and Caribbean countries, with Concacaf in partnership with the local Federation(s), Businesses, and Governments investing in the infrastructure of this country; aid by a percentage from the profits generated from the previous "official" Gold up. Eventually, there will be other Countries besides United States, Canada, and Mexico with the proper infrastructure to host an official FIFA tournament, the quality of the whole region will be positively affected, the whole region will raise it's level, and Concacaf would be able to rotate the tournament like they do in the rest of the World. The financial sacrifice that Concacaf would have to do is a fair price to improve the overall quality of our Confederation, but that's something they are not willing to do.

After watching the Copa Centroamericana..........I'm worried about what a Gold Cup would look like there. The announced attendance for Guatemala versus Nicaragua was 200 people. El Salvador versus Panama was 250 people.

They couldn't even get people to watch Costa Rica down there until the final. Would there be 500 people in the stands for a semifinal of Canada versus Jamaica?

We know why the tournament is always held in the US.

    1) The powers, Mexico and USA, are happy due to the atomsphere they can generate there. And the Canadians are comfortable there due to the number of players they have in MLS.

    2) All of the little Caribbean minnows that have little chance of winning, want to maximize the amount of money they can make.

I imagine there is muuuuuuuuuuuuuuch less discussion about changing the GC venue than some think on these boards.

any chance the 2015 Gold Cup will be expanded to 16 teams. Give the Carriebean and Central American Blocs 2 additional spots. That would put an end to the need for Copa Centroamericano. The Caribbean Cup would still be held which would allow the smaller Caribbean nations much needed quality matches, but it would also help prevent a major side from falling out a la Jamaica in 2013.

I wouldn't have great opposition to the idea but if you look at 2011 for example the 4 teams that would have been added were Belize, Nicaragua, Trinidad and Antigua. It's not like those nations would have really added a ton to the tourney. I get your point about not wanting to have a major Caribbean or Central American team failing to qualify but I also don't know if I want Belize and Nicaragua getting automatic bids

But Copa CentroAmericano is a real hindrance in scheduling and Belize and Nicaragua have really been improving as noted by their performances in this last World Cup Cycle. I think it makes sense at this point to expand to 16 for the 2015 Gold Cup, especially considering we are in the middle of the most competitive hexagonal ever

I think there could be something there, just play like the CCL. 4 groups of 4 home and away, top two from each group advance to the knockout round also home and away all the way to the final. They can start playing right after the world cup and end it before the WCQs.

Or they can always go the way of the old European Champioship, 8 groups of five, home and away, top team from each group makes it into a play off home and away. 4 winners pick a country host out of these 4 and play two semis there and the final.

Anything but move it away from the US and make it look at least semi legit.

But that will never happen because concacaf unlike other confeds is not interested in the progress of it's members all they want is the short term dollars.
