Events in GRAY are only possibilities. Expect lots more to come later in the year. Last year there were 38-40 events at the stadium depending on how you count. Looks like October will be the time for some conflicts with TSU, the worst being the back-to-back games on October 19 and 20. The 4th and 5th shouldn't be so bad since the Dynamo play on Friday night before the TSU game on Saturday. I believe last year the Dynamo stated their intention to move games to Friday night to avoid field issues. The game on October 20 is probably locked in since it is on UniMas. Too bad. We'll have to wait and see about the playoffs and possible conflicts.
Looks like we are getting the 2013 Gold Cup at BBVA. http://www.concacaf.com/page/GoldCup/NewsDetail/0,,12813~3050948,00.html 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup Host City & Venue list (In alphabetical order by host city) HOST CITY - VENUE (Venue Location)• Atlanta - Georgia Dome (Atlanta, GA) • Baltimore - M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore, MD) • Chicago - Soldier Field (Chicago, IL) • Dallas - Cowboys Stadium (Arlington, TX) • Denver - Sports Authority Field at Mile High (Denver, CO) • Hartford - Rentschler Field (East Hartford, CT) • Houston - BBVA Compass Stadium (Houston, TX) • Los Angeles - Rose Bowl (Pasadena, CA) • Miami - Sun Life Stadium (Miami Gardens, FL) • New York- Red Bull Arena (Harrison, NJ) • Portland - JELD-WEN Field (Portland, OR) • Salt Lake City - Rio Tinto Stadium (Sandy, UT) • Seattle - CenturyLink Field (Seattle, WA)
This probably means we won't get an intense double-header that features US, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Honduras like last time. Is this the official torch passing from Reliant to Cowboy's Stadium?
Last time Cowboy's Stadium got a first round double-header which included Mexico. We'll have to wait and see what they get this year. And then wait until 2015 to see if this is a permanent change.
Possible teams: Belize, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Martinique, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and the United States and either Panama/Guatemala. I'd put money it might be honduras or el salvador here in houston with all the int games we get from those two teams here in houston. US/MEX won't be here for sure.
I agree. Opening round doubleheader with Honduras/El Salvador (one of the two) in the first game and maybe a Costa Rica or Panama as the headliner in game 2
Wait until we get our Bigger, Better, Beautiful new LED Scoreboards which will be ze' biggest in the world!!!! Then we will get Gold Cup again at the Reliant
I'm pretty sure they promised us a BBVA COMPASS FOUNDING SEASON TICKET HOLDERS WALL. I'll have to find the email where it said that.
If they want a real headliner, El Salvador v Honduras. That'd be all sorts of badass. Bet the crowds would show up for a real match between those two instead of a friendly. But the two real questions are: will they actually advertise it? And.....will they price everyone out (again)?
We also have more Rugby to add to the schedule at BBVA Compass: http://www.usarugby.org/mens-eagles...es-to-take-on-ireland-at-bbva-compass-stadium Ireland is currently ranked #6 in the World. The US is #16.
Do we know if the Battery are going to be the Dynamo's "affiliate" under the new MLS/USL Pro agreement?
I think that this means we are not going to have an affiliate and the Dynamo will continue to have a Reserve team. If we had an affiliate we would not have a reserve team at all. I think.
That's my understanding as well. At this point I don't really see the point of having an affiliate. The only thing it seems to do is require you to send 4 players out on loan and lose your reserve team. Without an affiliate you can still loan out players if you want and you keep your reserve team. Until MLS teams start entering full teams into USL I don't see how it's any better than the old system.
Yeah this whole thing makes little sense to me, the way it has been explained. If I get an affiliate - 4 of my guys get plenty of playing time the other 4-6 get none. If I keep a reserve team at least all of my bench gets some time.
According to the Houston Chronicle's Joseph Duarte, the Cougars might play their home opener against Southern at BBVA Compass Stadium. Since TSU has the 8/31 date set, UH would play on that Thursday night (8/29). The rest of UH's schedule would be played at Reliant Stadium. Apparently, since Southern would not bring that much interest compared to other opponents on the Coogs' schedule, they are looking into BBVA Compass Stadium as an option. No official word yet.
Based on what? Even the first post of this thread has the CONCACAF Champions League match penciled in for the Wednesday (Aug 28th). So Thursday night is obviously a possibility for the UH game.
The field would be disgusting at the end of that run. As far as the Gold Cup, I don't know that we can make a real evaluation about Houston/Dallas venues. The new tray system at Reliant would seem to favor more soccer, and it's not like Astrodomain is packed through the Summer. Having BBVA (especially in the prime location) gives CONCACAF the felxibility to please fans with only so many games to go around. They don't want to ignore cities that draw well for four or six years at a time, so being able to put group games here without empty seats and high rent costs means they can throw us a group stage bone until the next doubleheader or final.
