I'm just going to post the link to the Organizing thread for future reference.
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...s-player-draft-organizational-thread.1980860/

That thread should be unstickied soon and the two new threads started by Balerion should get stickied.

I recommend each team hit "Watch Thread" for these two new Draft threads.

And obviously, please message the next team after you make your pick.

I will try and post a roundup at the end of each round to keep track of which players have been taken.

Here's to a fun few weeks!

It was unquestionable that Dempsey goes number 1. Over the past year, he has really set the bar for American attackers.

Now it gets a little interesting to see where some of the other elite players get picked.

    wouldn't you like to know....:D

Bradley with the next selection, and I completely agree with it. He is the right player to build a team around with this draft and much better than who MLSNHTOWN was alluding to in his analysis. I debated between Bradley and my first pick last year.

This year, so far, only two picks, and already the suspense is killing me.

I considered Bradley for the first pick, but with the way attackers fly off the board before pick #24 rolls around, I couldn't afford not to take Dempsey.

Bradley is a great pick at #2.

Well, the top 3 went in a perfectly logical way. We figured Donovan might drop out of the top spot and were thinking he might slip to us at #3. All 3 picks are the type of player to build around and really are no-brainers, in almost any order.

Bradley happens to be my favorite player at this time, so I would probably have taken him at #1 or #2 had I gotten the higher pick. But last year I had Davy Arnaud as my best playmaker, so getting a chance to draft Donovan is like Christmas, Easter, New Years, and my birthday all wrapped into one (or something like that).

Now it gets interesting. Let's see if the guy I think is the obvious #4 gets selected there...

    PM was sent.

By the way, Maximum Optimal has agreed to act as a neutral arbiter if ever there is a question about the eligibility of a player for the US Draft. Also, feel free to message him if you have a question before making a pick, and he will keep such private conversations confidential. Good to have a Draft Veteran and long-time poster available to help.

I'm doing class work while thinking of my very first pick at the same time. Too bad I'm 10th. :(

The next 3 picks are where things get interesting for me. Not just because I pick at #7 either

I believe there is a clear top 3 which has been selected in Dempsey, Donovan, and Bradley

But I believe after that there is another 3 players who are just below that level of top 3 and then after that 2nd grouping of 3 I believe there is a drop off and things get much more interesting. So I am anxious to see if I get one of my 2nd level 3 and I also if others see it the same way

Guys, Sean doesn't appear to have been on today, and his clock is running low. Is there a general feeling about whether we should wait to check in with him before continuing?

If I don't hear any opinions to the contrary, I'll plan to make my pick shortly after his clock runs out.

Yeah, the suspense is killing me. I have a feeling that we should move on, the 6 hour limit seems to have passed.
I'm sure I won't be on the clock by midnight or early tommorrow morning.

Being totally truthful, there is one other guy who I really wanted to pick here, because I think he may be our best and most gifted player, but he plays a position in this draft that has some depth, and it isn't an impact position either such as a stiker for example.

I'm actually quite excited to see how the rest of this round turns out.

Johnson was the player I was referring to. For me, it came down to which position has the most impact on a team, forward wins over left-back. I love Fabian though, he's a fantastic player, on his day, possibly our best.

The top five player are the exact same five as last year, just in a slightly different order. Now is when the decisions start to get a lot harder.

Dashing in and out between evening events. I also expected Jozy at #4 and most likely Johnson at #5. Makes sense so far.

Remember, we did NOT change the time rules from last year. 12 hour time limits, not 6. And even if my suggestion had been taken, with each team getting 9 wildcards, the "drama" today with Sean... would still have gone 12 hours. The 6 hour suggestion would have had no impact until the later rounds of the draft, once some folks used up their wild cards.

    On with the show!

I'm actually surprised to see Donovan go third, but I see the logic in it as well. Personally, if I had the third pick, like I did last year, I'd still go with Altidore. His upside this coming year is much larger than Donovan's, IMO. However, how do you let the legend fall out of the first three picks?

That being said, the second half of this round will be interesting. There is one player who had a huge year in 2012 that I'm curious to see if he sneaks into the first round. I think he will.

Deuts and I did consider Altidore at #3. He was the only other name in play. But we liked the versatility Donovan provides, in that we can play him at left mid, right mid, second striker, or even as a CAM under some conditions. And, he's both a scorer and a setup player.

Jozy has a terrific upside and is having a great season in Holland. He's the best pure striker in the US pool and I hope he wins back the starting spot under Klinsi.

I wonder if the guy who you thinks sneaks into the 1st round is the same one I'm thinking about...

I mentioned earlier that i thought there was a clear top 3 and then another 3 just below that

The 3 below were FJ, Altidore, and Jermaine Jones

so I am very happy to get Jones, but I was not shocked to see Cameron taken where he was. With the lack of depth at centerback, he probably would have been my pick if Jones was not there

Yeah, I'm surprised at a couple guys making it through the first round. Brek Shea was one of them. Great value pick by Neuwerld to get him in the second round. Chandler and Shea are both terrific values at the spots he took them.
