    So tired of this attitude.

Dudeman is still scoring goals in the EPL and we trot out the "too old for MLS" bullshite.

    Lame.

Exactly. Lampard is 1 goal outside the top 10 in scoring in the Premiership this season, and is a starting MF for Chelsea, but somehow is "too old" if he signs with MLS. Throw in the part where he was the Captain of the 1st ever Champions League winner at Chelsea and it's an unfathomably stupid position to take in regards to what is still one of the premier players in the world.

I'd love to know if he would still be considered too old if he signed with Everton instead of LA.

You know he's coming to be Beckham, but he'll just be another unidentified fan.

Not saying this isn't happening, but for now, every report that is coming out is just quoting the one from goal.com. So there is absolutely nothing concrete yet other than one unidentified source that told goal.com it's a done deal....FYI.

Frank Lampard coming in now is a better transfer for LA than Beckham when he came.

As for whats better for MLS, well there are maybe 2 players in the world that would attract the publicity Becks got. Thats a once in a lifetime player whose persona is not matched by his ability.

The rosters say so. Tell me, weather man, who are the older "name" DP's in the league? Go ahead and provide the HUGE list of guys that make up this so-called "retirement league" that morons like to refer to.

If you care to look at it rationally, you'll see that they are, by any measure, the exception rather than the rule. People who characterize the league based on that small sample are either stupid or dishonest. Which one are you?

Wow. Getting all bent out of shape and launching personal insults, name calling, over a difference of opinion. Lol.

Loosen up your panties or put down the liquor. Which one are you, a pms'ing girl or someone who drinks too much and can't handle differing opinions without launching into personal attacks?

Whoops, I sunk to your level.

    BTW,

According to Marca newspaper, LA Galaxy made an 8M bid for Kaká. Real Madrid turned it down, they won't sell him for less than 32M

I totally agree agree with you, if he signs with a team in england, italy, spain or some other euro club is great but he signs with MLS and he is washed up. This perception is getting old and boring. I bet there are many teams who wishes a player like Lampard out there. This is a great signing for the Galaxy and for MLS. Just stop the hating and start accepting that MLS is in the right path to become a competitive league.

Taking different positions on VERIFIABLE FACTS isn't a difference of opinion. You listen to the meteorologist, the rest of us will live in reality.

I can't see any team that Kaka would want to play for ponying up that sort of money.

There are maybe 20 to 30 teams out there that legitimately would not want a player of Lampard's caliber (if they had the means to do so), and that might be generous. I would say 6 teams in England wouldn't want him, maybe the same in Spain and Germany, and a couple in France and Portugal and Italy. I'm pretty sure that if most other teams could fit him into their pay structure than they would (mind you I'm talking a player of Lampard's caliber and not Lampard himself. Mainly because his style wouldn't necessarily fit a South American team for example, but if he was Argentinian or Brazilian he'd be in huge demand down there) . If you don't think that a good majority of the teams in Italy (for example) would love to have him on their team then you are crazy. It would be seen as a big signing for a team like Catania, Chievo, or Sampdoria. But over here he is just an old washed up signing.

When you refer to who are the older "name" DP's in the league, which is the post I responded to and you're disagreeing with me about, older "name" DP's is subjective, not a verifiable fact. What's the criteria? A DP over 30? A DP who was considered a big name? A big name by who? ESPN? Ives? Big Soccer? The actual team who is pushing said player marketing wise as a DP?
    /
Does Boyd fall in that category? Cahill? Frings? Hassli? Koevermans? Di Vaio? Tiffert? Kenny Miller? It's subjective, unless I missed the post in this thread which outlined the exact criteria for who is and who isn't an older "name" DP?

And, it can be discussed without personal insults. As can just about anything in life.

BTW, I don't think you know what "verifiable facts" actually means.

I thought we were going to use common sense. The idiotic tripe the OP rambled on with was the idea that the league is somehow littered with retirement players as DPs. The reality is that there are currently 29 DPs. 13 are under 30, 3 are exactly 30, and 13 are over 30. That's an average of less than 1 DP per team that could in any way be considered old or near retirement. Median age is 30, average is 29, mode is down at 28.

Are guys like Di Vaio, Keane, and now supposedly Lampard, who all had been playing well in top Euro leagues, washed up old guys looking to retire in MLS? Of course not. Anybody with the most basic understanding of who the players signing as DPs these days wouldn't even begin to try and throw them in the washed up/retirement grouping.

The original post replied to which started all this earlier in this thread, was when Foisfan said he'd like to see a younger DP. This was the reply from syoshonis.

Fiosfan didn't say older"name" DP's, that was just added in by syoshonis. Fiosfan just said he wanted a younger DP. Then you post this:

As I said, this is all subjective. 16 of 30 are 30 or over. You say Keane, another can say Frings, who's been a failure and does look washed up. You could say Henry, another says Rafa. It's subjective. Nothing you've said is a verifiable fact regarding who would be an older "name" DP. The "name" part of it is subjective. As for whether most DP's are older or not, well, over half are 30 years old or older.

Fiosfan didn't say we have a league full of "retirement players", that was added by you, as you twisted and spun what he said to make your point, which seems surprisingly common around here. Both you and syoshonis took what little Fiosfan said and just ran with it. Either launching insults or inventing arguments. Lol.

He said he preferred a younger DP. Agree or not it's not an opinion worthy of the shit storm you two have kicked up due to some complex.

A friend of my son was riding the DC to NYC Amtrak route I think 2 summers ago. A guy sat next to her on the train, slightly drunk, and after some time said to her, "do you know who I am?". She politely said that she did not and he replied that he was a professional footballer in England with a look like she should surely now realize who she is sitting next to. She doesn't know as she doesn't follow soccer at all but replies, "oh yes, you look very familiar but I can't think of your name." He says, "I'm Frank Lampard" and she replies, "Of course!". She said that he seemed maybe a bit amused that she, or anyone else on the train didn't seem to know who he was. They continued to have polite chit chat and he said that his team was training in the US and was taking a quick side trip to visit a friend(s). Later, after some google research and verifying it was him, she calls up my son (knowing that he is a soccer fan) and asks if he ever heard of someone named Frank Lampard and mentioned the story. He cracked up.

Anyway, I was thinking that Lampard was probably amazed at the contrast of being able to travel like that in public in the US vs what he would experience in England and Europe if he tried something similar. Kind of an odd sales pitch for MLS to tell Euro superstars to come to the US and play and that one of the best things about it is that very few people will know or give a damn about who you are. But, it definitely has to be attractive to these guys who have difficulty going anywhere in their daily life without attracting a crowd.
