Per Ives: "Multiple sources have confirmed to SBI that TFC is preparing to trade the No. 1 overall pick in the draft to the Colorado Rapids in a blockbuster that would land the Canadian club the No. 6 overall pick and No. 25 overall pick, as well as approximately $100,000 in allocation money." "If they do succeed in landing the No. 1 overall pick, the Rapids are expected to select U.S. Under-20 national team defender Walker Zimmerman. Louisville defender Andrew Farrell is widely regarded as the top prospect in the draft, but sources have told SBI for some time that the Rapids prefer Zimmerman and have made it a point to try and secure his services." "The Rapids are doing some serious wheeling and dealing as well. Sources tell SBI that Colorado has also lined up a trade to secure another first-round pick and allocation money in exchange for veteran midfielder Jeff Larentowicz. The trade partner for that deal has yet to be identified."
Plus if we get a fair amount of allocation back from the JL trade, than all the better. Really curious who the trade partner is and what specific pick in Round 1 we are talking about.
On first glace you wonder why the Rapids wouldn't trade for Toronto's #3 pick (and give them less), because Toronto would likely take Farrell at #1. But I suppose this protects them in the event Chivas deals their #2 slot, since Chivas are planning to draft a guy few people have in the top 10.
Per Ives Galacep's Twitter @ SoccerbyIves If true I like it and it certain makes the likelihood of a JL trade more real.
Sounds like we are going to make a lot of moves. Per Ives, we traded the rights to Avilla for LaBrocca.
AKA, we weren't willing to pay Avila what he wants, but Chivas will. Decent move to get something out of picking up Avila then. LaBrocca is actually an ok box-to-box guy in my opinion. Not as good offensively as I would hope, but he could fill that 3rd mid spot well depending upon the situation.
I like LaBrocca too. Just reread Ives tweet and he said the rights to Avilla for the rights to LaBrocca so maybe we don't have anything yet. Could also be part of another move.
Hmm...you all know my thoughts on trading Larentowicz, but bringing Labrocca back would definitely soften that blow. He's exactly the kind of two way mid we'd need in a 4-3-3/4-5-1, and the dropoff between his and Larentowicz's defensive skills is not a large one, plus Labrocca gives more on offense. I'm 100% in favor of us trading up to get Zimmerman if that's all we're giving up. I just don't want to see us lose any future #1 picks in the process.
Bianchi droppin' bombs: Chris Bianchi @Rapids_News Told #Rapids aren't going after top pick. Chris Bianchi @Rapids_News Larentowicz dealt...working on details. Chris Bianchi @Rapids_News Again #Rapids will announce Jeff Larentowicz deal likely later today. Working on details...told he's going east.
Well, this thread gave me hope and then dashed it. Of course, it depends on what type of sandwich we get out of the deal.
Ah crap, people are saying in N&A threads that Ives has tweeted it's for the #11 and allocation. If true, that better be a giant pile of allocation money. I'd think a #11 has a much higher miss rate than a #6.
SBI reports that we will receive half a muffaletta (will take up an international spot) and enough allocation money to purchase a full turkey sandwich. No word on whether a soda was included in the deal.
So essentially we swapped Ginger and the rights to Avila for LaBrocca, the #11 pick, and allocation money? That's got win written all over it.
Agreed - now to see if a deal with TFC to move up in the draft happens and for what....but so far I'm liking these moves
We should rename this thread Draft Day(s) Trades/Rumors I asked Bianchi if Avila for LaBrocca had been confirmed and he said yes. I hadn't seen any confirmation of it, so sorry if this isn't news, but wanted to get it out there.
They're separate deals, though. Since we don't know how much allocation money there is, is the #11 that good a return for Larentowicz? #11 pick has been better recently, but there have been some real clunkers in the past: 2000 Sasha Victorine 2001 Isaias Bardales 2002 Daouda Kante 2003 Brian Carroll 2004 Leonard Griffin 2005 Scott Sealy 2006 Leandro de Oliveira 2007 Bryan Arguez 2008 Roger Espinoza 2009 Jeremy Hall 2010 David Estrada 2011 Will Bruin 2012 Matt Hedges
Ives Galarcep is saying that there were better offers on the table for Larentowicz, but apparently Jeff said he preferred Chicago so they went with that. I think that's really damn classy. Larentowicz has been one of my favorite players and I wish him well. I'm glad to hear he got to have some say in where he ended up.
We seem to hear this about every trade. At some point we need to get as much value as possible. That is part of the deal with being a professional athlete. Maybe I'm just a jerk though.
