Well, let's hope we got a lot of transfer money. The offseason just gets better and better. Get busy Brian Bliss. At what point do Jairo and Federico get demoralized and want out too?
If this is true I am really disgusted. How can this team keep dumping/pushing out most of it's veteran players every season? I had high hopes for Milo's contributions this coming season. How (and why) is he getting out of his contract? Unbelievable....
I'd like to know who the "sources" are. Could be his agent. In Europe, this is a common negotiating tactic (not just for contracts but for transfers too). Remember all the dancing around Beckham did while he was in MLS with loans and the like. There was lots of buzz like this before Reus, Dante, and Neustaeder got transferred last year from my German team. Contracts in Europe are rarely fulfilled--by either side. In America, it's a little different. Not that I was expecting him to be here once the rumors started to surface. This will be interesting. If we get a good transfer fee, I have no complaints. If we don't--make him play.
When you have an incompetent, insecure head coach who sees any player with experience and the respect of his teammates as a potential threat to his already tenuous authority, you do whatever you can to remove the threat. It's become a sadly repetitive pattern over The Polish Joke's tenure.
Meh. I can't say I'm broken up about Miro leaving. He never stood out in any consistent way. The only reason anyone should care is because we're already short on bodies to begin with, and that's not exactly a ringing endorsement.
It's not the individual move as much as it is the fact that this is part of a larger trend. The least experienced team in the league just got less experienced. Weren't we supposed to have already done the rebuilding?
Least experienced?? I thought that was TFC or Chivas. Or maybe NE, but it's hard to tell that they are still in the league.
Agreed, I did think he was one of our better players last season, but not enough consistent production to make me think having him this year would make or break our team. Honestly as long as we didn't let him go free and can make a decent signing to replace him I don't really care
He's a guy making $100K plus, playing in the center of midfield for 25 starts and had a whopping 4 goals and 2 assists. TWO ASSISTS! He wasn't good enough. He had plenty of chances. He and Miranda were the 2 players last season that I just couldn't watch without cringing. They started all the time, which I found baffling enough, especially Milo, who we had plenty of other players who could give it a go at that spot. He was a black hole as best as my beer addled mind can recall. Misplaced passes, poorly weighted through balls, etc. I was excited to have him come in last year. His youtube clips and predigree seemed to make him the type of player we've been looking for. A competent midfield general. It just didn't pan out. Even with guys like Higuain and Arrieta playing in front of him, he couldn't produce an assist. I hate that we've had to rebuild 3 years in a row. But I am not upset about cutting bait with these overpriced unproducing vets that just didn't fish for us last year. Bringing them all back a year older and their 5% raises wasn't suddenly going to make us better.
Chivas has quite a few veterans on their team (Burling, Jazic, Joseph, and Riley). TFC has Califf, Hassli, Dunfield, Koevermans, Frings, and Julio Cesar. That's actually a pretty old lineup. I'd agree that New England is a rival in the category.
Mirosevic didn't live up to expectations, that is true. But does the FO have a plan here or were they not expecting this and now have to scramble to fill another position?
Well, he had a multi-year contract. So if he's not coming back, the Crew HAD to have had something to say about it.
I hope we shock the league and me and win it all... or win something but right now it feels like this is how our season is going to go. On the job training for the young guys, wait that's everyone... oh well. Bad record, that almost seems like a forgone conclusion. Fired coach, or really not renewed as we'll probably still keep him all year. Start over with a new staff in 2014. Serious question, the roster before Sigi got here and the roster after he left... which one does our current team remind you more of?
The Crew seem to still be expecting Milovan. Asked for comment, a Crew spokesperson said, “As this stage, we expect him to report as planned.” http://www.dispatch.com/content/blogs/covering-the-crew/2013/01/mirosevic-not-returning.html
Milo didn't light crew stadium on fire. But until arrieta and Higuain showed up, no one did. I don't mind him leaving, but what drives me nuts is that I know we won't replace him until August at the earliest. Our FO cuts bait and waits. By the time we get replacements, our season is too far gone. I don't know why I expect anything else, everyone knows its impossible to find quality players in January. Ugh...
This. It's a behavior pattern that is played out over and over an over since 2010 (remember? When we weren't rebuilding?). It's easy to say that all these players sucked and weren't producing, so good, let them go..... but really? Is it too hard to imagine that the manager has an influence on the player's performance? We were all up in a tizzy when tRR, Ekpo, and the Bash Brothers were dazzling us with their exploits. We loved Carroll's toughness, Renteria's bull-ness..... Milo actually started the season pretty solid last year, and was an on the field leader. I think he may have even worn the arm band once or twice. Higuain came in and set the league on it's arse. And what did most of us say? "Wait til he gets a week of training under him." And then what happened? About the field player that I can think of that hasn't regressed since Bobby PopGun came on board is Gaven. Every other player has gotten worse under Warzycha. And then, when they say something about the manager, the fan base yells "Sour grapes!!!" Look at he forest through the trees. The manager is bad for our club.
Well, until it's official, I'll hold my fire and won't jump up and down. He's still under contract, so unless we get something (player, or $$) then I don't see why the Crew would agree to this. And we always raved about Mirosevic's "professionalism" and now he isn't going to come back because his friend got cut? The obvious thing would be to keep Duka and let him play inside where he belongs anyway. But, we won't do that. Tchani will be the CM/CAM, and we will struggle. Last year for Robert for certain.
The reality is that most teams in the world do quite a bit of this, especially in the lower divisions. Yeah, the big boys don't as much--but they can afford it. MLS can't. We have three kinds of players in MLS for the most part. Solid US/Canadia players who do stick around a bit--though many of the best are skimmed off the top. Foreign players who are either (a) young and untested or (b) a bit past their prime. In the former case, many of those guys will leave MLS if they are able for the simple fact that Europe pays more. In the latter case, as they are often on the wrong side of 30, you get 2-4 years before they decline--and the 4 is if you are lucky. With Higuain, I'm hoping for 4, as he's slightly younger than the average of that type of player. I'd be willing to bet that the average player tenure with an MLS side is under 4 years. Now I'm not saying turning over your roster is a good thing. As many Championship and 2 Bundesliga teams have found out (and some at higher levels) it can be a recipe for disaster--as Derek notes. Dortmund *almost* crashed an burned financially before they started winning BL championships. But there's just so much more free agency and signed contracts aren't worth much. Reus had one--and for multiple years. But he was able to force a transfer to Dortmund. That's the way it works--but we are not used to that here. That's what Miro is trying to do--and negotiating in the press is common. Given that our top sports leagues are the worldwide top dogs, they have much less turnover. That's what we are used to. But MLS is middle of the pack, and players have dozens of countries to choose from. I'm alson not defending Bob here. Nor am I atttacking him--though I agree coaching is a factor. But I'm talking about other factors. No matter who we are talking about in MLS, there would be turnover. There were 42 players in the waiver draft. 65 in the re-entry draft. That's an average turnover of over 5 players per team--and that doesn't count any trades--and none of those players were rookies (some were first year players to MLS but veterans otherwise) either as all were out of contract or on an option year and I think rookie contracts are for 2 years. Even big stars move. Donovan's been with two teams. Frankie was with another team before coming to Columbus--Eddie to. Marshall is a rarity. Buddle, Casey, and Cooper have all moved around--in some cases a lot--and they are all proven MLS strikers. I do agree with the person who said that it's harder to find folks in the Winter window. Prices are higher as teams worldwide are filling needs for a run to the championship or a run to avoid relegation, and they will pay more or take somone from you at the last second. I'll bet there's twice as many deals that fell through that we never heard of than what we've heard of. Then again,we have done ok in the Summer window with Higuain and GBS to name two.
