As of December 1, as far as I can tell, here's the NCAA Division 1 alignment for men's soccer effective July 1, 2013. Let me know if i missed a school, or moved a school a year too early. No need to reinvent the wheel.
I had read that CSUB was supposed to join the PAC-12 as an affiliate member starting in the fall 2013 season.
Well - ya need to put Maryland and Rutgers in the Big Ten (and out of the ACC) and U of L in the ACC; Get rid of Centenary in the Summit - they've been D-II for two years now; and NKU into the Atlantic Sun.
The OP set an effective date of 2013. Rutgers, Maryland, Louisville and NKU will not be switching conferences for the 2013 soccer season.
Thanks for the corrections, and yeah, I decided to base it on July 1, 2013. Can always update it for 2014. To be clear, BU will leave America East and join the Patriot League July 1, 2013. So, you probably need to send out a revision 2. Sorry.
Rutgers' switch to the B1G is listed as "a date to be determined," but pretty sure it won't be for fall 2013: http://www.scarletknights.com/news/release.asp?prID=12432
Richmond (https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/u-of-richmond-to-drop-mens-soccer.1975313/) and Mount St. Mary's (https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/mount-st-marys-maryland-to-drop-d1-soccer.1977977/) are dropping men's soccer. Towson (https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...ty-to-drop-mens-soccer.1975881/#post-26829211) may be.
All the above corrections are noted. And, I forgot about Incarnate Word joining the Southland, so that makes another independent school. From here on, I'll think I'll update the list about once a month as needed. It looks like the conference changes aren't done anyway. The NEC and MAAC might have some changes soon. Plus, the MPSF and what's left of the Great West will probably be moving. This little list is harder to pin down than i thought it would be. Like a wise man once said, "always in motion is the future."
With Grand Canyon starting their move up to division 1 they are either going to be an independent or "play" in the MPSF next year. Its remaining members will be fine in 2013; 2014, then it gets interesting. The WAC takes over men's soccer from the MPSF in 2014: Seattle, Cal State Bakersfield, Utah Valley (starting in '14), Grand Canyon (in D-1 transition) and Chicago State (starting in '14). If Texas Pan-American is added as a full member (they have received their invitation to join) they will likely be asked to add men's soccer. In that case you'd have six teams. So what would then happen with UNLV, Air Force, Houston Baptist and San Jose State? - The Pac will likely take at least one or two members to offset losing Bakersfield (WAC/MPSF) and San Diego State (to the Big West). I could see UNLV and San Jose State. - Air Force and Houston Baptist likely remain on as affiliates for the WAC/MPSF. Also worth noting: Sacramento State will be in play as their three year contract with the Big West ends in 2014. With SDSU set to join the following year would 9 teams work?
Here's version 3.0. Monmouth and Quinnipiac joining the MAAC in 2013 are reflected in this revision. First I heard of this. But, it was announced way back in August. http://www.northeast10.org/sports/m...Reclassify_To_Division_II_Beginning_Fall_2013 Oh, well. Version 5 will have this correction and Eastern Illinois in the Summit. This reclassifying stuff is a lot harder to track than I thought it would be.
Jeffcon - Thanks for trying to stay up on this. It is not an easy job. I would think that the Independents could recreate the former Atlantic Soccer Conference so they would at least have a conference. Incarnate Word could join the WAC.
When does the Atlantic 10 become the Atlantic 13; and the Big Ten recognize it's only seven strong? Holding on to a traditional number in a conference name that has become obsolete is just plain dumb. But I'm sure the AD's at their respective quarterly conference meetings will hash it out for days. Somebody get the hookahs ready.
The Maryland/ACC squabble is holding most the other scheduled moves up. Once that's resolved everything else will be settled quickly. However, Maryland and Rutgers to the Big Ten, Louisville and Notre Dame to the ACC and the C7 breaking off won't take place until July 2014.
Pacific is scheduled to join the WCC in July of this year but their soccer won't take off until the years that perspixx mentioned. I'm going to miss Pacific
