Question for you which I struggled with. If you're the parents of the child who died, and if you believed she strangled or choked the child to death, do you agree to clemency for the killer?

I'd like to say I would, but I'm not so sure.

This question has nothing to do with my views on Saudi capital punishment btw. It's clear that they only execute the poorer or powerless folk. Their system (and indeed their society) has little respect for the rule of law. A maid killed herself recently after being publicly beaten by her employers. I'm pretty certain the employers won't be getting the death penalty or anything close to it.

I'm very curious to know how many of them were men?

...Saudi Arabia executed at least 79 people in 2012. Of those, 27 were non-Saudis -- and most of the foreigners executed in recent years were migrant workers from developing countries...

Sounds a lot like America here the ghetto crack whore storing her boyfriends dope and money gets life without parole. The HSBC bank executives that laundered billions in drug money get a ten percent of profits fine and a statement from the US attorney general that these people will not be prosecuted because they are too valuable to our society.

OK you sound like a lefty there.

I give you credit, I don't agree with much of anything that you write, but you do seem to be a true populist. Not many of those around, although many claim to be such.

I think coming from you that was a compliment. Thank you?

I will confess that it is not entirely altruistic. I think for the elite to be truly prosperous a vibrant and hopeful middle class is imperative. As much as I rail against what I perceive to be societal ills, as long as people like me are allowed to rail and voice dissent then we are fine.

A couple of Saudi students that I have been in study group with for Cal II and DE. Have commented on the income disparity her,e being very similar or maybe worse than what they have in their country. They wondered why we did not have people standing up and fighting for more equity. I was taken aback by the question, as well as the realization that our income distribution was similar to an admittedly repressive regime.

As I thought about it, I did become fearful of the whole GOP stance on social welfare programs. I could only come to the conclusion that it is difficult if not impossible to get a person sitting in a climate controlled housing, who is watching Cable TV and eating ho-hos to get worked up enough to grab a gun and commence a revolution. Take that same person let them be homeless hungry and freezing and they are looking for a weapon.

    Yes and yes.

As a side note, your first sentence is what President Obama stated in his comment about "distributing the wealth" that has since been widely quoted and derided. It's quite clear from the context that his point was that economies that have a broad and deep middle class perform better than economies of a similar size where the wealth is more concentrated.

Ha maybe I should give hand guns and ammunition to homeless people in Chicago and forget about giving them cash for booze or food.

    Something to think about.

Any of those people that want a gun already have one. Better to keep them too "boozed up " to find their arse from a hole in the ground much less use a weapon.

    ok so just bullets then.

But hey I hear the NRA and their Mental health test thing wants to take away the gun of those crazy homeless people.

I say What the fuck NRA, they are Americans and if the crazy guy under the Highway over pass that talks to birds and yells at people wants to have a gun, is his Right as an American protected by the second amendment for him to have a gun.

Is that really what the NRA is saying or is it that we should just solve mental illness and then we won't have to worry about who has guns?

No, it doesn't. Although, you're entitled to your own opinion. Can you provide a link, showing a poor, underage, immigrant maid beheaded here, after a child in her care died?
Equity? Have much have you studied about the world's economies?
You might want to study some social science, as well.

Yes, that is exactly the point y-lee was making, wasn't it? He specifically said that we have that exact situation here, instead of an analogy to the girlfriend of a drug dealer getting caught up in his business and going to prison. But he didn't say that, did he? No, he specifically said there are cases of immigrants getting beheaded, didn't he?

Do your parents have any other retarded children besides you?

What we're going to see in the next twenty years IMO is a push for re-institutionalization of people with disabilities and restoration of involuntary committment. The usual mantras of "public safety" and "cost effectiveness" will be used.

If you also somehow equate beheading a servant, with a drug dealer's girlfriend taking the weight for him, in comparing the legal systems of KSA & the USA, you are also as dumb as y-lee.
I'll match my earned doctorate against your GED, any day.
