Chivas USA should have drafted Luis Silva last year. A local who went to High School in East LA, was on a Chivas USA youth team back in the day and went to college just up the road in Santa Barbara. But no. Somehow Casey Townsend was going to help he team more.

After Lopez revealed that he wanted to play for Chivas USA, Alvarez followed. I believe they are both completely different midfielders. Is it possible for Chivas USA to pick both, doubtful. We should find out on Thursday.

For us to get Alvarez and Lopez, we are going to have to trade. We have allocation money (unspent) and foreign spots.
Who would you like to trade? Bowen? LaBrocca? Jazic? Quien?

As I mention before in another topic…
I’m sure Guadalajara does not need Chivas USA, they can come up with 18 talented players for their team, so it is absurd to think that Chivas USA would be feeding players to GDL ( they have a stronger youth development system ) Chivas USA needs to focus on that
We all know the Liga MX is better than MLS…. It been around longer ect ect ect ..Whatever if Chelis mentions that Players might move to play in Mexico he never mentions Guadalajara

    1. José Luis Sanchez@Elchelis
@cdchivasusa all the young is very good, but chivas need Mexico-American young players, because in a future Maeve play in Mexico.

We all know it is a players decision to chose what national team they will defend, look at Hercules Gomez I’m sure he has learned a lot in teams like ( Puebla, Tecos, Pachuca and Santos) this only favors the US national team. am i correct ?
Chelis is just following what the boss wants..
he is focusing on what was the ideology of this club that got lost in that last few years
2005-2006 Chivas USA the team that represents the Mexicans in the MLS
2006-2007- Chivas USA the Mexican/ Latino team in the MLS
2007- 2008 Chivas USA the Mexican/ Latino team in the MLS
2008 – 2010 Chivas USA the Mexican/ American team in MLS
2010-2012Chivas USA had no clue what to represent
2013- Chivas USA a team that represents the Mexican club in this league

Chivas USA is different ! that is just the way it is , if you what to fallow a more American team there are 18 more teams to chose from don’t want to sound like a d!ck but (iris guariris:D )

hmm i didnt know alvarez went to salesian HS. he was teammates with silva in HS, then.

as for lopez and alvarez, and based solely on team need not roots, im leaning towards alvarez simply because he's the bigger of the two (we all know how much cardozo's skill was tamed due to the physicality of the league) AND is more attack-minded. he wears "10" for a reason.

    final third success or bust.

2013 - Chivas USA represents winning. (at least it should)
winning first, identity mumbo jumbo a distant second.

I think Alvarez suits us a playmaker, but it also depends on who comes back to the team for 2013.
Are we keeping Cardozo, LaBrocca, Miller B., Zemanski?
    Who's coming from Guadalajara?
I feel we should know all this stuff certainly before the draft.
Then again, it's Chivas USA and there is a tendency to be secretive.

The way I see it, I think Lopez would be the better option because he can play as a 10 as well, and we all know he is defensive-minded, meaning he can play both offensively and defensively. Alvarez, however, can only play offensively, as far as I have seen.
I believe we might make a trade for a pick in the first round on the day of the SuperDraft, and get both Lopez and Alvarez.

I feel Ben Zamnski with Alvarez in the midfield along with Bolanos and Bowen on the wings really gives us some firepower. Add some Mexicans to that mix and that really changes things.
Defensively, I feel we need some speed, depth, and youth. Everyone is in their 30's already.

I trust Kevin Esparza to work with Chelis on bringing in some players.

lopez reminds me a bit of sueno. same stature, hustle, defensive ability with a twist of attacking flavor. that being said, i still think we need to emphasize the attack and get that young CAM #10 that fits the mold.

in the end, it all depends on who's on the roster and who management is planning to bring over from guadalajara. as a result, and like elac said, there's no sense in trying to predict which prospect fits our needs better since we have ZERO idea as to who is gonna be on the roster. so yeah, i cant say i can be upset when a name is called since i have no idea what's going on or what will go on in the future.

if a trade happens, and we sacrifice a player not named delgado, romero, or villafana, there's gonna be tons of talk as to how we're going the route of the vergara.

you just shrug your shoulders and hope for the best.

i like that midfield line a lot, just worry about how young and inexperienced it is. its saying something if zemanski's the elder of that group.

True, but we could also surround them with veterans up top or in the backline.

why would uncle chelis reveal this? there's absolutely nothing to gain and leverage to lose in any potential deals/packages. good management always keeps ALL doors open for the betterment of the club.

    wacky.

Extremely stupid management decision. Makes no sense at all to reveal who you want to draft. The ONLY time is may make sense is if you have the #1 pick. Perhaps Chelis thought there was no way Toronto would select Alvarez, but still. Not a smart move.

Keep making blunders like this and Chelis will make Fraser look like Guardiola...

    jajajaja funny Chet!
Looks like you guys don’t know the type of coach we have ..
Take some time and do a research, Chelis would say the things the way they are, if you like them or not ( that is just his persona)… that is just the way our coach is !
If Toronto gets Alvares then I’m sure he has someone else in mind
And please …please never compare Chelis with Robin Frasier that is just absurd

facepalm if TFC picks alvarez and forces us to take lopez, meaning TFC can take farrell with #3. or even worse, if CUSA really wants alvarez, TFC can draft him and then ask for a trade for CUSA to get his rights.

A gamble on TFC. They have compared Alvarez to Luis Silva, i doubt they would pick Alvarez as #1 pick. This Superdraft should be interesting. Dann Kennedy is been shopped around as expected.

you may be right. all i know is that if alvarez is chosen number one(under the assumption that TFC thinks it can take farrell at 3), we need to have the balls to get farrell to regain some sort of leverage.

    unlikely, but still.

I get the feeling that Chelis's comments about Alavarez is a smokescreen. No offense to Rey.
Something smells even more fishy with the Kennedy rumours.
Quite honestly, I think Chelis is playing the US soccer media. The man is very astute.

    Goodbye, Dan?

Alvarez and Lopez are rank#1 in their respected positions. Chivas USA shopping Dan Kennedy at the draft can only speculate Chivas USA wants another draft pick and allocation$. Colorado, Montreal have #3picks and New England have #4picks.
