From an FC Dallas e-mail I received today (emphasis is mine). 1. Which 2013 FCD home game are you most looking forward to? ( )Home Opener vs. Colorado ( )Texas Derby vs. Houston ( )Games vs. LA Galaxy ( )Last home game vs. Seattle My friends and I refer to an FCD v Houston game as “the Dynablow game” or “game against Dynablow”. I’ve only ever said “Texas Derby” (pronounced ‘Darby’) in jest with a ridiculous English accent. A Google search produced a Wikipedia entry about the FCD v Houston game, news about a series of horse races in Texas, and stuff about roller derby (probably not pronounced "darby").
nope i wont' say that or any other euro term because we already have terms for them i.e. derby = rivalry on the bounce = in a row, streak row z = cheap seats gaffer = coach keepie uppie = juggling i'm sure there are more but i cant think of them now
Could you translate "get 'em ou could you translate "get 'em out for the lads" please? In local terms of course
That one has always bothered me as that is what Sam Gamgee's father in the Hobbit was called and he was a gardener and I never heard mention of any sports team although mushroom raiding seemed to be popular.
hmm.. "Texas Derby", no... but between myself and friends I go to matches with just refer to it just as "Derby day". For example whenever the schedule released this week, I txted a couple friends "Derby day is 3/17". They know who I'm talking about, so I don't have to specify that its the Texas derby. Following euro league before MLS, its just what I've taken to saying plus I don't follow other sports so maybe that has something to do with it as well.
"Ball shaggers" and "smoking a ******" are expressions that always make me snicker, but it doesn't take much to amuse me.
Yes I debated it but deep down I am such a Eurosoccersnob that I figured everyone pronounced "z" as "zed". Silly Amurricans.
If I said something about "Derby Day" to my friends or if they said it to me, we'd be getting cash together to go bet on horse racing.
Don't forget your pretty, ostentatious hats! What if they pronounced it "darby" (not the crocodile tears)?
If you google Texas soccer derby, it comes up. Wikipedia has it too - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Derby
