El Batallon was involved in a pick-up game. Obviously this was bound to happen...

Corinthians played Chelsea in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup last week. Over 30,000 Corinthians fans traveled to Japan. There have been all sorts of reports of fans selling their cars, major household appliaces, etc. to raise money to make the trip. :D

    Here are a few pics.

Reminds me of the final and the last home game.. my whole section was standing (mostly) throughout the game. I sometimes worry because I sit in the front row and i'm usually the last to sit down but eff those behind me.

I attended a couple of games at the Camp Nou a bit over a year ago and posted here about the great job by the visiting supporters group from Bate, a Belorussian club. I noticed in both games that the Barça supporters group weren't exactly as active, but don't think I mentioned it here.

Well, Brian Straus apparently just visited the Nou Camp and tweets his impression of the home supporters:

He makes a great point. I don't think anyone would argue that SGs in MLS have eclipsed the long-established, massive groups in South America, Mexico, Germany, etc. But the SGs in MLS also often get far less credit than many of them deserve -- even when compared with SGs in much more famous places.

I'm no expert on Barcelona, I would love to go to Nou Camp some day, but I've heard from several people that have been there that a lot of atmosphere is lost since there are so many tourists that go who don't know the songs and are just there to see it. Sort of interesting if true.

I think that's completely true. The number of tourists in the stadium for both games that I attended (as a tourist :D) was clearly high. You can tell because they stand and sing the Barça anthem before games. The locals know the words, so you can see how many people stand and sing, and how many either stay seated or stand and don't sing. That's an imperfect measure, but it's probably not a bad way to tell who's local and who's a tourist.

This past fall, I attended a game at the Emirates in London -- Arsenal x Schalke in the UEFA CL. I got a similar impression. The visiting Schalke supporters were amazing. They were far louder than the home fans, and stood and sang the whole game. They just took over the place.

My first reaction was to rep this post. But it feels wrong to laugh at a police officer bouncing down five rows after being hit with a drum! Stop posting these morally conflicting images Nordissimo:confused:

if it makes easier for you, due process in Mexico in these cases is handled in a dark corner by those police officers. so the throwee did NOT get off easily.

Jeez, Millionarios hinchas must be besides themselves. They unveiled a similar telon but Nacional's telon takes the cake.
Portland pumps smoke, South American clubs have telons the size of Cleveland. In Houston we just got our color bars (tiras) back. In our "own" stadium.

Portland smoke after every goal isn't cool. It also seems to be pumped out by a machine.

So I picked up this ridiculously large USA flag (like, car dealership sized) this weekend in Austin. Mrs. Laz might be flustered by the necessity of storing such a beast, but I figured it would come in handy. And for the princely sum of $15.00US

Dallas smoke was the same, it just sort of pumped out more or less continuously.

I loved the smoke at the 2011 MLS Cup. That was beautiful, and it caused some real butt hurt and tears. They were trying to put the smoke bomb in the mud to put it out, but it kept going--and that was the second bomb. I thought it was better then the flashlights on the pitch.
