What I like about Vela is he's so damn skilled and versatile, you can basically put him anywhere on attack and he'd do well. Even as a lone striker, providing you have Gio behind him.

Vela lacks certain characteristics that a "9" like Chicharo or Oribe have. Vela can't header and only shoots with his left, while the other 2 mentioned can header and shoot with both feet. Vela can play wide both down the right and left, but obviously he's much stronger on the left. and he can certainly play a creative role behind the striker which is how he currently plays at RS.

Actually because he is so left footed, is the reason he has played on the right for Sociedad.... when he plays a wide role... he is more likely to get a look on goal when he cuts in... to shoot with his left he has to start from the right wing.

Team Vela vs Team Chicharito cracks me up.

Let me break it down for you.

There is no doubt that Vela has the upper hand when it comes to overall skill. He was born with a better skill set and technical ability.

If there's one thing that separates Chicharito from Vela is his work ethic. He knows he's not the most skilled player in the world but he makes damn sure that he'll work his hardest to improve his game. He might never be as talented as Vela, but he will be much more successful in his career because of the mentality he has. Vela knows he doesn't have to work as hard cos he already has the talent/skill. He settled. Thats why he plays for Sociedad and Hernandez is at man utd. You can give me every excuse in the book for why Vela never flourished at Arsenal. For me there is no excuse. If he truly wanted that starting spot he would have earned it. How is it that Hernandez has no trouble breaking into the 1st team that includes Van Persie and Rooney? He's doing what Vela never did at his time at Arsenal. And thats take advantage, or APROVECH the opportunity you have to train with world class strikers.

Vela's a waste of talent. It seems like he's finally on track. Lets see him prove me wrong.

At the end of the day they're both representing our beloved Mexican national team. Which for me is the most important thing. So why bother bickering and arguing about who's better? What are you really trying to accomplish here? They play for the same team pendejos.

Vela is a better player, and Hernandez is a better worker + poacher

So looks like some of you guys are writing off Guardado with the addition of Vela. Not that I mind , but I'd rather see Herrera and Enriquez maintain their spots instead of cramming Guardado in some random position

I disagree... they simply have different skill sets but at this point Chicharito has been more dominant for Club AND Country at his position / skill set than Vela has been. Don't get me wrong I am not a CH14 Nut Rider or a Vela hater... I am hoping all our top players mesh & blow up... but people unfairly knock CH14 as if being one of the world's best headers doesn't count as a skill... and as if being able to score with either foot is also trivial.... if Vela could head & strike it with his right then yes it would be no contest on the skill set... but as of now people are just unfairly discounting CH14's skill set.

Thing is Vela isn't a CF, you can't expect him to have the same skillset as a true #9. But what I like about Vela is that he is a game changer, pair him up with anyone and he'll compliment the other player. We've seen Chicharito and peralta play together and it didn't work out well, and we've seen Chicharito play without Gio Dos Santos to feed him plays and he looked lackluster. In the end you need certain players for Chicharito to stand out, while Vela is that certain player who can change a game from the start of the match.

We haven't seen Vela do this in the NT, but everyone who has been seen him play in Sociedad lately knows he's matured as a player and links up better with his team. And many might not agree with me, but Hernandez has it easier compared to Vela

I for one am not gonna go into the differences between the two players which are pretty obviouse but I am glad that we are finally gonna get a chance to see them be fielded together again.

    Well said.

Vela isn't more skilled than Chicharito or vice versa. They just possess completely different skill sets. I'm also not buying the work ethic argument in favor of Chich. Just because one likes the torta more than the other doesn't mean he isn't all business at practice.

I don't get why people choose sides when it comes to vela and chicharo. With Vela's dribbling, playmaking and vision he is the perfect guy to have behind Chich, Vela will draw attention and chich can aprovech the space that opens up, also Vela can aprovech the space chicharo's deadly runs will create. If Gio and Fabian can get back in top form, that top 4 can be deadly, thats without even taking Guardado into account.

Also if someone can pm me that article, i would appreciate

Realistically Chepo will respect Guradado's hierarchy (as he should imo). Guardado works hard, has good vision, has a great outside shot and crosses, which is what you want from a wide player, especially when we are playing top tier countries and will need to be playing defense on our end for parts of the game (Spain, Brazil, Italy etc.)

    --------------Chicharo---------------
    --Guardado---Gio--------Vela----

looks good but is kind of strange since all 3 attacking mids are severely left footed, I like Fabian's ability to use either foot, especially in top form( to be fair tough to show your quality when your playing with the shitty teammates that Fabian has to deal with at Chivas, also why i think we have seen the best of Fabian in a Mexico jersey, he actually is surrounded by quality players that give him space to operate)

    I bought a Vela #9 in 2007, which I then gave away.

I feel pwnt he turned out to be more of a winger/outside forward then a 9.

I thought he did in against Uruguay in the WC and maybe even in a few of the lead up friendlies.
He also played some attacking mid at depor.

Vela is more of an "11" I'd say

If anything, I would like to see Vela paired up with Oribe
