Is being reported that FC Dallas has signed Peruvian NT Goalkeeper Raul Fernandez. http://elcomercio.pe/deportes/1521013/noticia-raul-fernandez-nuevo-arquero-fc-dallas-mls?ft=grid
For you that don't habla... The cat started in five games or Niza since 2011. He's the current starting GK for the Peruvian nats.
Sounds like this guy might be a solid keeper and maybe a mentor for Richard Sanchez, but I hope we didn't spend much on him. I'd really rather see $ spent on midfielders and forwards.
Seems like a talented GK, and could be a good fit for FCD if they didn't have to pay too much. I would have rather have spent some funds in the midfield or up top. Also how much time is he going to miss for qualifiers?
Have you seen his fiance? I don't feel all that badly for him. A little less but you're talking future here. Clavijo's got a long-term plan.
I like this a lot. Peru might not be the strongest team in south America, but they are still fairly decent. So it's kind of neat to say that the starting goalkeeper for The Peruvian national team plays for FC Dallas.
raul " butter hands " fernandez He is a decent keeper but get ready for some bloopers. Is still unknown how a bench player in french is the starting goalkeeper for peru , not like we have a lot of choices in net , but fernandez is in the starting line up just because the coach does not feel like trying a new keeper , however there are better keepers in peru that deserve a spot in the starting line up , specially when fernandez has only been playing up for peru in the past year or so since he is been sitting on the bench for his club Not sure this is a good sign for dallas , but you just never know , he has a lot of talent and can be very good in net , i just hope he doesnt give mls some weekly bloopers
Sala's Sure Hands Bring FCD Another Import In Fernandez - MLSSoccer.com Nice to know that a former FCD man recommended him to the club. It's still funny to remember not too long ago when Dario was our guy between the pipes. It's just odd to see him as a player agent now. That said, bravo Sala! Thanks for your help on this guy.
This. We do have better Peruvian goalkeepers though. Still, as a Peruvian, I hope he does well but gets rested when you guys come play the Whitecaps.
With consistent playing time he should get better at avoiding those bloopers. Remember, Fernandez was brought to France to replace highly-regarded Ospina but when Opina's transfer fell through Fernandez had no choice but to be the team's #2. Almost the same as Brad Guzan, he had to ride the bench for a number of years behind Friedel but it doesnt mean that he was ever a bad GK.
I don't really understand this move. We saw in his opportunities last year that Seitz can start in this league. I would have preferred a trio of Seitz, Sanchez, young & cheap 3rd keeper. Then we could invest this $200k in the midfield or left back. Help me football Jesus.......................give me something other than Benitez at left back!!!!!!
Haven't seen any mention of whether they paid a transfer fee to get him, anyone? Seems like an odd position to drop that kind of cash on a foreign spot, since you can find plenty of American GKs to do the job for less. Perhaps they have their eye in bringing him in, having him do well, and then sell him for a profit but that seems a bit of a stretch to get to that point. Very odd move.
$200 K is a lot for a keeper - I am sure Hartman would have played for that. I have nothing against this kid and I hope he turns into our Petr Cech but I see no reason why any MLS teams would sign a foreign goalkeeper or spend more than $150k for a starter at that position. I would spend my money on people who can control, pass and score with the ball. Year after year we see young unproven gk come in and play well for not very much money. American turns out good gk at a dime a dozen. Good goalies help - but they aren't hard to find at a competent MLS level.
Reports from Peru say that he came to a mutual agreement with Nice to let him out of his contract. So I'm assuming he's coming on a free transfer. Also, his wife, Melissa Huddlestone, is an American citizen so that would help expedite his green card status if he doesn't already have one.
It's kind of the going rate for foreign keepers in the league, though. That's how much Jimmy Nielson of KC and Gspurning of Seattle got. Donovan Ricketts makes 250k. [veteram American keepers tend to get 150-200k] I also can't imagine Hartman wouldn't have signed on for that, even for a 1-year contract. That would have been a pay increase for him. So I don't really understand the move to dump Hartman..............unless something was going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. I've always thought it was a poor strategy in MLS to use an international roster slot on a keeper. There are plenty of American MLS quality keepers out there. LAG just won the cup with Josh Saunders in net for Christ's sake.
Let's hope the next one is Zach Loyd getting re-signed............cause he's starting the last year of his contract.
Clavijo is a pr!ck. all that matters about that guy is his celebrating colorados cheating victory over FCD. Running his punk arse all over our pitch.
