The Weaver experiment should have been over by now. We already have a target striker in Ching and Bruin - I'd rather look for something in the college draft for more upside. Weaver isn't going ro run any faster than the slowest foward in the league or jump any higher. It is never going to work out and ultimately it was a bad trade.

This is just a loyal Dom rewarding a guy for his hard work in CCL and carrying the scoring load for the reserves.

I think the guy has great character and a tough competitor but I'm afraid he doesn't have the speed and athleticism needed to make it in MLS.

Iwould only keep him if his contract is less than 70K ( and not guaranteed)

He doesn't score a lot of goals, but I thought he brought something off of the bench this year. I really don't care much one way or the other, but I think the coaches like having someone with familiarity in this position rather than retraining a different backup. I guess I'm not as down on him as others and people tend to overestimate the speed aspect quite often. He gets chances every time he comes on, even if all of them hit the woodwork.

Yeah, I thought Weaver showed well when he was healthy and played last year. Hit more posts than net, but provides a big body off of the bench at a likely reasonable salary. I like the move for depth - I don't think he would feature or likely to be slotted as a starter, but MLS has shown that depth is imporant and we need a CCL squad for the summer round.

Let's face it, who thought we'd have Camargo, Sarkodie, & Barnes playing the second half of the DC United 1st leg? Never know who you might need later in the year.

Fact is you need guys at that price range that can fill in. Less we forget we tried in the draft and just released the guy. We draft at the end of the first round again so another roll of the dice awaits. Weaver is what he is...but he is a known quantity that has shown he can get on a roll. Let's not forget how good he looked to begin 2011 before being injured.

Vancouver might be willing to trade out of their spot:

Lenarduzzi expects talk to heat up even more once the combine starts and go from there. He told a story of the team’s inaugural SuperDraft in 2011, when they picked forward Omar Salgado with the first selection. He says just as they were getting ready to announce their choice, Houston Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear telephoned and asked, “What about that first pick? What can we do?”

not going to try to convince you:

but at this point Kandji vs. Weaver is a cost analysis decision and not a skills/loyalty/speed issue. do we want to pay #3.5 FWD on the depth chart 'x' amount or do we pay the #4.5 FWD a lesser 'x' amount. if you pay the #3.5 his asking price it may handcuff you to the current roster with little wiggle room for a summer acquisition. if you pay the #4.5 you're banking on flexability and the hope that you won't be seeing him on the field for 2,500+ minutes this season.

    your roster depth choices are:

    Bruin
    Cummings
Carr (this is were my 3.5 & 4.5 comes in until Carr returns from injury).
    Kandji
    Ching

    or

    Bruin
    Cummings
    Carr
    Ching
    Weaver

the top one cost you more and leaves less $ and flexability.

Didn't we draft a striker last year, how did he do in the reserves?

#1 Colin Rolfe, we just waived him before Christmas.

#2 meh. he got outscored by Weaver in the reserve league.

Andre Hainault is gone. I think Brunner will be able to fill in nicely, and we all know Creavalle is good to play outside back as well as midfield positions. And Kofi should be getting better everyday.

Yeah, that is odd. My understanding is that players in the draft have signed a contract with MLS but haven't been assigned a team. So, if that is correct, for Lopez to be in the draft MLS would have to pay a transfer fee and sign him. That seems odd.

Of course, their coach is still in England playing, so who knows whats going on at TFC.

They were talking about that on twitter yesterday, it seems like I read that it's true they tried, but that MLS would deny it because of something about a player who's been capped by his country can't be in the draft. But most of what I was reading on twitter was about the stupid Cascadia Cup stuff, so my head was really hurting.

It seems to me, that TFC either does not discovery rights or does not feel they can sign him without locking him down with their #1 pick (I am assuming they would use that pick on him, and assume that if he is placed in the draft that their would be no discovery rights). Either way, it sounds like it is unlikely that MLS would allow Lopez to be part of the draft, given his resume.

Weaver's contract is probably guaranteed, been in MLS 4 years and over 25 or whatever the age standard is.

I'll be really excited if this is true, the kid is a real player and could also make us some money down the line in form of a transfer to Europe. I rate him.

Eric Hassli wants out of Toronto. Say what you want about him, but he can score. Kris Boyd is apparently not in the Timbers plans. Would Dom want either one? Not really a pure fit is a compliment to our forwards and both have heavy salaries, but maybe you can buy them down with allocation dollars.

Way too expensive and not worth it.

Besides, allocation money can only be applied to new contracts.

Allocation money can be used to buy down DP salaries

We have better places to spend our money than forward. Bruin, Cummings, Ching, Weaver, Carr means there are 3 target forward type players on the roster already.

So I don't see a need unless we jettison Ching.

But only by half or so, which means they still have a sizable hit on the budget. If you think your team is good enough, it makes more sense to wait until summer for a DP where you get the same result without spending the allocation money.

Is anybody else watching the CONMEBOL U-20 games on BeinSport? It's like a shopping center of possible Dynamo players. Well, anyway, it's fun to dream. A lot of these guys are being scouted by big European teams. So, ok, it's not so much a strip center but the Galleria. But the games are fun to watch, lots of good goals. We should take a pass on the goalkeepers, though.
