Live Press Conf.: 2 PM ET MLS to make major announcement from Kansas City http://www.youtube.com/user/sportingkansascity?v=_Wk7YP-1R5Y
when it has been all over the internet for almost 24-48 hours it is no longer a "major announcement".
Drum roll please............ It will be held in Kansas City! Press conference going on right now at mlssoccer.com
July 31st Opponent to be announced-- only info that Garber gave is that it is guaranteed that it will be a club that is a "soccer power".
Tuesday, knew this on Tuesday. Get on our level please. https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/2013-mls-all-star-game.1980745/unread
Garber talks about the value of using the fan passion on display at the All Star game as a recruitment tool to get famous overseas players to come to the league.
Press conference now over only one question that was slightly interesting-----why the switch to smaller stadiums for the All Star Game as opposed to larger NFL stadiums that could sell out and make super $$$ for the league? Garber responded that you don't build a multi-million dollar stadium and not take the opportunity to showcase it. It's a commitment that the League has made to those who have invested in building MLS stadia. All Star Game acts as a celebration of pro soccer and the soccer specific stadiums are part of that celebration.
But that's the way MLS has done it for years. It's not a "major announcement" in MLS unless it's been aged 2-30 days to give it that rich, musky, "major announcement" flavor. ------RM
Kind of figured it would be in Kansas City this year. Still hoping one day they'll go back to the East vs West format and maybe a skills competition.
