(NB: I'm writing about iPhone apps here, because that's what I have, but people should obv feel free to jump in with Android and other phone apps)

I used to use ESPN ScoreCenter daily. Some days (Champions League days) I just kept it open during my classes so I could watch scores. I had MLS, England, Spain, Europe, six WCQ regions, CCL and CWC on it.

Then they updated it. Now, when you open to a screen, it gives you today's games in that league -- even if there are no games. You need to swipeswipeswipe to get to the next day, or use the calendar navigation if you happen to know the date of the next game. Navigation to another league is supposed to be easier -- click on the menu to open the left rail. But the left rail is too narrow, so "World Cup Qualifying - UEFA" and "World Cup Qualifying - AFC" and "World Cup Qualifying - CONCACAF" are all just "World Cup Qualifying -". And the Europa League, CONCACAF Champions League, and Club World Cup are all just gone.

I've sent my feedback to ESPN and am hopeful they'll fix the date problem, but am not expecting to get Club World Cup back. I'm sure they're aware of how small a number of people viewed Europa League compared to, say, NFL.

I've gone looking for a replacement. So far the best option seems to be 365Scores. It has options for all the scores. It defaults to showing football, but one tap gets it to My Scores. For a while I had trouble figuring out why it kept showing me NBA, too, but eventually I discovered that it defaulted to a couple of favorite teams and once I de-favorited them I was fine. What I can't do (or maybe haven't figured out yet) is how to view one league -- e.g. to look at just the Champions League fixtures upcoming. But so far, the fact that it'll show me all the leagues for one day is better than ESPN's one-league-one-day approach.

I also tried LiveScores, but that gives you all the live scores, including leagues I don't care about. I tried Yahoo Sportacular, which is recommended by others unhappy with ESPN, but that app has only a few soccer leagues.

    Any other recommendations?

These are all great apps & suggestions. I use ooTunes and TuneIn Radio for games. fotMob and LiveScore for scores. ESPN, ESPN FC, CaughtOffside, MEN for news.

I should note that FotoMob has live audio streams for many of the games in most of the major leagues. It appears to be a free trial that will eventually go "pay."

I'm going to look at Live Score from Eurosport and ScoreMobile FC. I've been using iFooty. It's OK. But, I'm looking for something more robust.

Live Score is excellent. Plenty of very up to date news and videos to go along with the scores which include detailed commentary. Looks great on the ipad. Follows leagues across Europe and leagues like the J-League, MLS, Brazil and Argentina, and all the major international country and club competitions.

And it includes a ton of other sports if that interests you as well but I just use it for soccer.
