The 2013 schedule is up on mlssoccer.com: http://www.mlssoccer.com/schedule?m...90c5e5a2c3f9033e083&form_id=mls_schedule_form
Yes, I will be in Salt Lake City the weekend after the Quakes will be there. I guess I can go watch RSL stomp LA instead.
Quick thoughts: Several Sunday 8PM starts for national TV--Unimas, formerly Telefutura (Glad to see games return to this network after a year's absence.) A few Saturday afternoon home matches. Fireworks at Stanford against LA on June 29th. The MLS page shows a home match vs. Portland on June 27th; the Quakes page on July 27th, which I think is correct. The schedule seems weighted towards more home matches early in the season at first glance.
8 of the first 13 matches at home (including 3 of the first 4) then: 6 of the next 7 on the road (including 4 in a row) then: 8 of the last 14 at home (more balanced, but includes 3 in a row at home.) 6 Sunday night home matches, not so family friendly. 2 Wednesday night home matches, not too bad. 9 Saturday home matches; 7 at night, 2 in the afternoon.
Yeah -- I'm not too thrilled with the 8 PM Sunday night games -- the 7 or 7:30 PM games are tough enough to sell to my wife, but there are four home games starting at 8 PM on Sundays this season?
I hope that game is in July. Otherwise, time for a paranoid Quakes fan conspiracy theory -- playing Portland on June 27 and then our only home game against LA on June 29 would be designed to help LA beat us.
Definitely good for DirecTV subscribers, all of whom have (or at least should have) UniMás (and TeleFutura before it) in 16:9 HD but still only have Galavisión in 4:3 SD. That linked schedule lists the June 29th game as being at Buck Shaw Stadium. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
The Quakes site lists it at Stanford: http://www.sjearthquakes.com/schedule The best view of the schedule: http://www.sjearthquakes.com//sites/sanjose/files/2013 Earthquakes Schedule.pdf I like Unimas (nee Telemundo) because I can get it over the air--no cable or satellite at our house.
"Quakes announce 2013 schedule" (SJEarthquakes.com - Wednesday, 1/9/13) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
"San Jose Earthquakes 2013 MLS regular season schedule" (Quake, Rattle & Goal - Wednesday, 1/9/13) (Kelley L Cox-US PRESSWIRE) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Fewer games in the NW this season. Too bad for me, but better for our beloved Quakes!! Guess I'm just going to have to get up to Wankouver this year. GO QUAKES!!! - Mark
Sadly, we have to play the filth every year, until they are their whole city are destroyed a smallish comet that wipes out only the lesser lost angesleaze area. GO QUAKES!! - Mark
Wednesday/Sunday game trend since Quakes came back: 2013 2 Wed, 6 Sun 2012 3 Wed, 4 Sun 2011 1 Wed, 0 Sun 2010 4 Wed, 0 Sun 2009 1 Wed, 1 Sun 2008 0 Wed, 2 Sun The growing trend for Sunday games makes it hard for me to stay a STH, especially with no ticket exchange policy for the new stadium. I'm in for 2014, but 2015 probably not if this keeps up. Besides the potential family/kids thing, Sunday doesn't work for me with church and also with actually PLAYING soccer. I wish they'd considered that Sunday is the biggest day in the Bay Area for adult recreational soccer, and that one of the reasons that we are fans is that we are players... Also, Wednesday games need a later kick-off than 7:30PM with Bay Area commute traffic and the stadium near the heart of Silicon Valley (I come from East Bay so I'm screwed no matter what, though).
jetdog9 I have 2 letters for you: TV. We are just going to have to live with the Wed (ESPN) / Sun (NBCSports) games for the good of the sport, team & league. Not to mention, it's not going to get any better when we open the new stadium.
Yes, I got that from the start (last season as well), although I'd hate to see a non-filled stadium on TV. Not as big an issue with Buck Shaw, but at the new stadium... it'd be nice to have some kind of warning beforehand when you are committing to buying tickets for 20 odd games in advance.
