2012 Houston Dynamo to 2012 MLS All Stars Game - 0 2012-13 Dynamo Players to USMNT - 3 (if you don't count Sarkodie/Clark call ups in 2012)
I've read all of your responses and all are perfectly rational and make sense. It still stinks though.
Connor Lade? Justin Morrow? Being called into the USMNT camp? No, I can safely say that several players on that roster will never get near a USMNT in terms of qualifiers or World Cup play and that there is NO need to see many of those players in camp.
Hey now, the El Tri fans are still bragging about their 2009 Gold Cup victory over a US squad that started Jay Heaps at fullback and Colin Clark at midfield!!!!
Hard to see them selling over about 12,000 at that rate. Won't auger very well for future USMNT games. Then again, HDC never drew many for January friendlies and it hasn't hurt them. Is it not enough USMNT fans? No fans willing to pay the ticket prices for a friendly? Too many damn soccer matches in Houston already?
I think it may have to do with it going on sale right after the holidays, when people are generally at their brokest. ...or I'm willing to blame it on social security tax going up 60% at the beginning of the year. ;-)
Saw that Tweet by GD. That's disappointing. I think I'll wait for a groupon from US Soccer before I purchase tickets.
I hope there will be a big crowd regardless. But I do know some really big USA fans that just can't go because they don't have money for the tickets. And these are serious fans, it's sad that they can't go but I understand. And if tickets were lower, a lot more people would go just to check it out. The prices are way too high for people just looking for something to do on a week night. The fact there has been zero promotion of the game can't help either. No one knows about the game other than those that closely follow the team.
I did see commercial or something for it on csnhouston at the bar yesterday. Couldn't tell what it was because the bar plays music over tv feed
I really don't think ticket prices are that high, but January is probably a harder sell to those with more financial considerations than others (however that doesn't stop Monster Jam from having 3 events at Reliant Stadium in a month). Prices are maybe high for the casual fan and the knowledgeable fan won't spend the $$$$ to watch the B/C team play Canada. Buzz on this is about at zero.
it's not hard to understand week night during school high ticket prices middle of winter friendly vs Canada no advert outside of regular Dynamo fans = lower demand
I'm wondering who is responsible for promoting this. If BBVA Compass Stadium has been leased by USSoccer to host this event, then they have their money and it would not make sense for them to invest anything into advertising, any fault on poor attendance would be on USSoccer for not promoting it or investing the ad money locally.
Even so, I would have figured we'd draw better than what it looks like it will be. It's the usual company line: Dynamo FO takes credit for helping bring the game here but then disavows all knowledge or responsibility for how it is promoted or put on. Perfect scenario to get credit for success but no blame or responsibility if it fails. My guess is that this is a US Soccer deal at this point.
Monster jam is cheap to get in to though. $5 kids. $20 adults. I'm sure those are nosebleed seats but my AO Supporter Seats for the Canada game were still about $50
blah, to me there's no B or C team when Mexico plays. you're part of the pool, you're part of the pool. who did you want them to bring Wayne Rooney? i mean this would be a valid excuse for a knowledgeable fan if the US played in Houston 3 times a year every year, but....
You wanna play average attendence for Mexico games in Houston in the past 10 years? Mexico has played here something like 10+ times in that span versus 2 for the USMNT. Stop making excuses and support!
Talking about games at BBVA since pricing is comparable. I mean, that Guyana game went from hot ticket and guaranteed sellout to half-empty and excuses. And Chicharito was playing!!!! But I guess reasons or rationale for lower attendance is only acceptable if you are a Mexican fan and used to the culture of excuses.
