    HELP!!!

Seemingly, the number of regular posters now numbers less than a dozen. Are we so disinterested and disinteresting that we are devoid of thoughts about "our team". I, for one, am getting bored. Surely, others are as well. This site needs more posts, new posters, more posters & passionate posters to revive its interest and enjoyment.

Let's get some fresh ideas & fresh posters to participate in discussions!!!

Some of that "freshness" has been usurped by Facebook. Granted, the average Rapids fan on there huffs glue.

The well has been a bit dry when it comes to rumors and stuff to speculate about. I think things will gradually pick up when we have a more full roster and get closer to opening day.

Most of my energy has been going into supporters stuff such as capo/drummer stuff and top secret tifo stuff. Maybe people on the outside of that world could post ideas on things to try? You never know...you might actually get someone really into it and they become more involved.

Pid Army has always operated as an open forum for ideas...why not extend it further to everyone else?

I think the players should enter the stadium on a giant waterslide that goes right over the supporters section. Get it? Rapids.

Misguided, I thought my post was a sincere request for Rapids fans to get involved with this site bringing frsh ideas and perspectives to this discussion forum. I had not expected BS and silliness to usurp this thread. If you have nothing substantive to add then adding nothing is always preferable!

Having stated the obvious, I grade each of you a D on the cuteness factor & an F on the content of your posts.

I saw the post and thought it was going to be a message that Marx had taken a surprise vacation in Singapore and had lost his wallet and his passport and please would somebody wire money, the hotel won't let him leave until the bill is settled....

I've no ideas worth discussing. The team's been nothing but a disappointment for the last year, and in my opinion is that the team is in very great danger of becoming the mirror of TFC. That doesn't make for a very fun discussion so....

As for new visitors. I have been distressed for many years that they are seldom allowed to develop their voice on the site without the regulars providing them with their "knowledge" at every turn.

It's stuff like this that keeps people away. Try to keep in mind this (both posting on BS and following the Rapids) is entertainment and not a college mid-term.

But back to the point of the thread (which I think is a worthy discussion, despite my comment above). It's probably worth mentioning that the endless sea of pessimism that is the Rapids BS board probably isn't doing much to bring people in either. New Rapids fans aren't burdened with the emotional baggage that comes from watching the Rapids for years.

its the offseason, its always a little slow now, right? Currently things only pick up with trades, big trades and hinchweets.

and the welcoming committee around here is quite sour, I feel like others above do, that new posters are frequently run/put off with the attacks and unrelenting negativity of some of the more prolific regulars.

As this week goes on and we get into next week (with the Superdraft and camp opening next Thursday) we'll have more to talk about.

It's hard to get passionate positively about, and put thought into, a team that came off the 2nd worst season in its history, is routinely discarding parts from its most successful team, and is assembling new parts without clear rhyme or reason. I applaud those who still try, but I'm having a hard time counting myself among them any more.

As for the Bigsoccer culture of our particular board, I gave up on trying to do anything about it last offseason. There's an ingrained causticity and unwelcome-ness to new ideas, coupled with a lack of self-awareness and an unwillingness to change. You can't force people to change; they have to want to change all on their own.

Agree. I've been a sporadic poster, at best. Actually, I find the forum to be much less, uh, "quirky" than most fan sites - with much of the knowledge being extremely insightful. Don't usually find I have much to add, but I try to speak out when I do.

I thought the board had been moving surprisingly swiftly the past few weeks given how little is actually happening.

I didn't notice there were fewer posters, though. The BS Rapids community doesn't seem very big.

Not to jump on RapidStorm, but he gave me an opening for something that's been going through my head this offseason seeing some of the complaints here and on Facebook (mainly on Facebook).

I'm going to make two assumptions in my post here. One that the players from that team that people are truly upset about are the ones that played in the MLS Cup final. I mean, does anyone really care that Palguta and Joyce got rings and were then cut? Two, that Bravo's influence on the players moving has been somewhat equal in the 2011 and 2012 seasons, so players are listed by the coach even though Bravo probably had a large hand in it.

So given that, still on the team at this moment:
    Mullan
    Mastroeni
    Larentowicz
    Wallace
    Moor
    Wynne
    Pickens

7 of the 14 players that played in MLS Cup.

Traded by Smith the day after MLS Cup 2010
    Baudet

    Traded by Pareja:
Cummings - For Avila and allocation money
Kimura - for an unused international slot and allocation money
Thompson - For a 2nd round pick in the 2013 draft
Kandji - For a draft pick in the 2014 draft

    Not re-signed by Pareja:
    Casey
    Smith

So half that team is still here at the moment. IMO, Thompson, Kandji, and Baudet were role players that I'm surprised anyone is getting really upset over not being here any more. So we're really talking about:

Casey - Over 30 and 2 years removed from his great year in 2010. We'll see what his money level is at, but even I as a big Casey supporter thought it was a big risk to sign him for similar money as what he'd been making.

Cummings - The real roll of the dice so far. His last two years haven't been great and maybe he doesn't work in the new system, but I could see him bouncing back next year.

Kimura - I'm sorry, I love Koz, but he had a bad year last year. So much so that the 3rd worst defense in the league (Portland) was happy to trade his rights to NY. Yes, we botched that trade badly by not using the international slot and not really having a replacement lined up (Freeman went into the doghouse for a couple of months shortly after the trade) but that doesn't really change my opinion that at the point of the trade Freeman was out playing Koz and Koz was in a contract year and wanted to go somewhere where he could play.

Smith - Over 30 and 2 years removed from the MLs Cup winning team. No official word yet, but I assume at this point he's gone. How much would people be willing to pay him to keep him around given his injury history? I'm guessing the number is lower than Smith is willing to take. Great skill when he could stay on the field, but staying on the field has been a challenge for him.

I guess my puzzlement is, would people really be happy for us to overpay to keep older players like Smith and Casey just because they were part of that Cup winning team? Are people that attached to Kandji and Thompson for what little they actually brought to the team on the field?

This. Pretty much the case for me, as a new forum member, though I may be a little more regular with my posting. As of late I've found that I have less new information, insight, or ideas to add to the discussion. This isn't a knock on the site but rather telling of my lack of depth of knowledge for building the Rapids. Being a relatively new Rapids fan, past two years, I have found this forum to be the most informative and interesting of the possible places to take part in Rapids discussion on the Internet. As mentioned previously, things will pick up when the season approaches. It's a good forum, y'all. Keep it up.

No, I don't wonder why some "Rapids fans" don't post comments or retorts to this site but my hope is that there is a cadre of passionate & knowledgeable fans who are willing and able to post meaningful and thought provoking ones.

Seemingly, lotsa responders to this thread grew up receiving participation accolades rather than winners trophies which accounts for their ultra thin skins. When someone posts a seemingly cutesy post trying to denigrate the thread then they need to be called out.

By the way, I rarely see your posts. If only those meaningless participation rewards were significant, huh?

The answer to a question like this really involves evaluating every player move. It also involves looking at the larger picture of whether one thinks the system we had under Smith would've continued to work, whether the "system" change under the new regime does work/was even a necessary change, and so on. And it ultimately will require some debunking of your 2 assumptions.

So, this is hardly the thread to answer those questions in. I'd rather let Marx's thread get the attention it deserves, because it's a fair topic to discuss on its own. I only gave my personal reasons for why I'm not contributing more to this forum this offseason.

Good post Jason although I'd like to think it wouldn't have been necessary in 2013, but it still is. Who am I kidding, people are still pissed about Rapidman.

Maybe we should have a new supporters group song called We Are Sisyphus.

Yes, because the way to encourage new posters to express their voices, as Marx was after, is to segregate them into snarkily-titled groups based on whether we agree with them.

    Thank you for your contribution.

I hang out here because these boards consistently provide more breaking club news and insightful team discussion than any other single place on the web.

New contributions are fine, the people making them just need to be prepared to support what they say and be able to dig-in when people don't agree. I'm kinda with Marx on this one...in the sense that good posters are people that have brains and a set of balls. Thats not just how forums work, thats life.

Facebook, in contrast, does not really stimulate discussion. It's just an open-mic soapbox for anybody to say whatever-the-hell they want with no real push-back...regardless of how misinformed and idiotic they probably are. At the other end of the spectrum...I hate like places that are insular bubbles where anything that isn't 100% complementary nob-polishing is seen as something to clamp down on. That's far worse than a free-for-all environment.

I think that your expectations of what this board should be might be a little over the top. There are plenty of "meaningful and thought provoking" discussions here, but if you think every comment on every thread should meet that standard you are delusional. I might also add that condescension and thin skin rarely make for great dialogue.
