They wouldn't characterize anything in the endzone as a "suite" or "club", would they? Seems there are some fancy digs up there in that Spartan rendering.
That was a poor conclusion. This is a new rendering with new details. -The sideline tunnels are correctly placed low. -The roof is far more detailed. -The outside skin is now sloped back and it's a new, organic looking material. -The upper bowl in the closed end is configured correctly. -The grass terraces are show in more detail. -More detail on the Epicenter/Scoreboard bar area. -More detail on the entrances. There's a lot of new stuff here. It might not be what we finally get, but it's much further advanced than what we've already seen. Plus I don't see anything inconsistent with what I've already learned. What they aren't showing is detail of the lower bowl or suites area, probably because that's the area that still evolving. What you can see is that the front row of the lower bowl will come right up to the adboards. So we will sit closer here than at any other stadium in the MLS. Additionally, I measured the field width, it once again comes out to about 72yards wide which is consistent with the drawings we saw earlier.
What's up with the food trucks? IF they are outside the gate how will that work. There's really not enough room for them in the Epicenter area.
I worry about that too. I remember the ridiculous jams coming out of Spartan, and it's so nice just to be able to walk across the SCU campus, hop in the car, and go. I haven't spent a huge amount of time by the airport, but my impression is that the roads constitute a pretty fragile ecosystem. A little overload, and you've got gridlock.
Yep, right now all we have is Coleman north or Coleman south out of the stadium. Would be nice to get a pedestrian over/underpass at the RR tracks and give some the option of parking by El Camino.
If you go back and reference the PD Permit drawings there are dedicated concession areas right adjacent the stadium on the three sides that have stands, just as there are restroom buildings there also. It's a rendering, don't read too much into it!
Back when they first mentioned actual dimensions (in the PD permit drawings) I specifically asked Kaval about the field width and the distance between the wall of the luxury suites and the touch line. My question was: "what width field gives us a distance of 13' 7" from touch line to wall of luxury suites?" His answer was, "75 yards". So, if you think we are going to have a 72 yard field then our distance from touch line to suites could be 22', and nearly 40' to the upper bowl. Not impressed at all with that. Let's hope for a properly-sized field, for our sake, and Goosdports.
I see them under the stands. Do you see the food trucks? They're on the other side of the street. I had expected them to be along the perimeter of the Epicenter. But, to your point, the PD drawings just has the stadium and a ton of parking lots. They don't even show the road just to the north of the stadium (which you'd need to cross to get to the food trucks). This is Hunter/Storm's rending of what their property will look like. The are, however, using a substantially updated model of the stadium. Whether or not we get that, we'll find out soon. With respect to field width. I just count dots. All the rendering, drawings and seating charts to date have been consistent. ~72 yards.
From what I can tell, it is Gensler SWA that did these renderings, while I believe 360 Architects is the firm doing our stadium. Can we really expect Gensler to know what our stadium is actually going to be like? There isn't even a timetable for Hunter/Storm's build out for the rest of the property. p.s. How do you find/activate the zoom feature? I don't see any reference for it.
From what I can tell, and I am NOT familiar with development in this area, it seems that the Coleman Highline project is about the office buildings. The stadium is in the picture because it just happens to be there, but isn't part of the project. Possible?
Has anyone been told about what will be happening with the berm? Will there be a set admission fee just for that area?
Even if Gensler created Hunter/Storm's rendering, the would have imported Wolff's stadium models. I use Firefox. I just right click and "view image" to zoom. In iE you might be able save it and reopen it. Here's anotherview - still not full resolution.
Wow naming it after Dick Vermeil & Bill Walsh. This is even cooler than the last one. I'll bet something like this would look great on the New Quakes park.
I think your math is wrong. If the distance is 13'7" at 75 yards then it is only 18'1" at 72 yards. The incremental 9 feet will be split between the two sidelines adding only 4'6" to each. Not too bad...
The new stadium is effectively at the end of a one way street because there will be only one way in or out by car from either direction of Coleman Avenue, even if there are multiple entrances. I expect traffic flow to be very difficult. I attended an event several years ago when then President Alioto told me that the FO was going to wait for BART to build a bridge over the railroad tracks at the Santa Clara station because the cost of the project was multiple millions of dollars. Since then, Caltrain built a tunnel under some of the tracks at the station and hopefully can extend it under all the tracks asap to facilitate pedestrian access from Caltrain to the new stadium. I expect to park on the street near the Caltrain station (as I do now for games at Buck Shaw,) and take the free VTA 10 bus or hopefully a FO provided shuttle bus to the new stadium, or walk if there is pedestrian access.
Coleman Highline is definitely just about the buildings, however, but, one would assume they would be looking at the overall design of the entire property and aesthetically tie it all together, as the rendering suggests. Perhaps they are looking for a big anchor tenant for the office and R&D facilities that could also be interested in being the stadium sponsor.
I think that we should honor the teams legacy and go back to the original width at Spartan which was like 68 or 69 yards. I have fond memories of games in the 70's on that field and would like to recreate that feeling. Plus I think we can build our team for that type of game and visiting teams would really struggle with the confined space. Now let's sit back and see how long it takes for Goodsport's head to explode.
I am hoping you are just joking. IMO a wider field allows for a more flowing, attractive style of soccer, and going to 74 yards wide and adding speedy outside players certainly reaped dividends for Frank and the Quakes in 2012.
As another throwback to the past, the new stadium's field turf (yes field turf) will look like this, and not just in the penalty boxes!
