http://soccerwithoutlimits.com/david-villa-and-arsenal-transfer/13616/ Found this today and though I was just slightly excited when I heard we were linked to Villa, this article made me quite excited about the possibility. So many options if we brought him in for our attacking game. Through the middle, down the flanks - possibility of a new formation, reverting back to that 4-4-2 with Walcott's pace complimenting Villa's intelligence and technical composure?
just a bit, but thats because I had a rough night last night.. as an Arsenal fan yourself would you not be excited to see Villa in red and white?
I thought he was the best player for Spain at one time. I have no idea how he has been playing since breaking his leg. The piece on tactics makes sense. Go to the 442 with Villa, Theo, Giro rotation and Santi gets wider. We dont really have fb's for a 433 anyway.
I'll give you a tactical breakdown of how he is not going to fit here......Wenger is not going to buy him.
This reminds me of summer when there were all these articles and pieces about how Sahin would fit in and improve the Arsenal midfield... Not only did we not get him, he has barely done anything to improve the Pool's midfield either
well I'm glad we didn't get sahin - he's a good player but too slow for the PL. I saw RM play AC Milan in preseason in New York and Sahin came on as a left back for a bit - showed his class on the ball but don't think he'd of cut it at Arsenal.
I like as a player. But if we pay 16 million for a 31 year old, not sure if that would be great business. Why not double that and go for mid twenties striker who can bag a lot of goals and stay with the team for longer. How many years are left in Villa, another two or three?
Like who? We can't afford a top striker. For example, I'd love to see Cavani but it's just not possible given our financial constraints.
i was told he would be the best player in our midfield if he signed here... some people think Football Manager is real life.
He would fit in a lot better here than he does at Liverpool. Still a genuine contender for Arteta's position imo.
really? why do people keep saying this? top scorers in the premier league: van persie, suarez, ba, michu, defoe top scorers in la liga: messi, falcao, ronaldo, aduriz, castro, soldado top scorers in serie a: cavani, el shaarawy, di natale, klose, osvaldo, lamela top scorers in the bundesliga: kiessling, meier, lewandowski, ibisevic, muller, szalai, mandzukic, top scorers in ligue 1: ibrahimovich, gomis, cvitanich, ben yedder, modeste top scorers in the argentine torneo inicial: ferrerya, scocco, gigliotti top scorers in the brazilian serie a: fred, fabiano, neymar, aloisio, barcos, mineiro, love, kieza, bernard(lw), elkeson, ronaldinho, jo, moreno all of them have double figures mid-season, except the last 3 for the bundesliga, last 2 in ligue 1 and soldado. the brazilian season is over, that's why there are so many there. scored through names are either already definitely too expensive (£25m+) or in their 30s. a few are currently valued under £25m but would probably sell for higher. this is just on goals scored. there are more players i could have dropped in with reasonable, though lower goal tallies but who have good assist figures....or players who have maybe missed games through injury etc etc.
To be honest my biggest worry is that our acquisitions over the past few years have been largely poor. 1- Ox is work in progress 2- Podolski is good, but still not sure if he's suitable for the wing. is he good enough to be a striker? Maybe a shift to 4-4-2 would suit him better. 3- Gervinho has been by far the worst signing we've had. He can't even get a match these days. Very poor, especially from all people Wenger once said that he could be the signing of the season to the media! 4- Squillaci, very poor. 5- Chamakh, very poor. 6- Arshavin, poor and should have used his chance to improve his fitness. Sadly he wasn't up to the task. 7- Cazorla, great player and our highlight signing. 8- Giroud- Good depth player, but not a starter imo. Is he good enough to win us a trophy? I think not. I rate him as a player, but in no way he has the ability of our previous strikers. 9- Santos- no way he's suited for this league. 10- Arteta- I really rate him as a player and would say he's been a good signing for us. 11- Koscielny- Good signing for us. 12- Mertasacker- Verdict is still on him. I think he's an ok defender, but definitely hasn't improved Arsenal's leaky defense.
I might have been excited......... 2 years ago. There are good reasons why he no longer starts for Barca, and I am not convinced he's going to be anywhere close to the player he was in the past.
