Great all-around job by Moses there. Rafa must be relieved.

but I think his enthusiasm is what gets him into trouble

if this was an Under 12 match then it is great that you have a player who runs up and down the pitch

but he has to add some tactical discipline with his game as well

He seems to not have the footballing IQ to be out in the middle of the pitch. As stated, he acts like he wants to be a box-to-box and is carelessly neglecting any defensive duties...which is what he is by trade; a CB.

In the middle of the park, he basically looks like a player that just waits for the ball to be passed through him. His body language is like that of Ballack minus the footballing intuition and off the ball movement.

Sorry, new role isn't suited for him and we can't afford to experiment on a season where we are already on our second manager, have bought in an additional striker and just lost to the bottom dweller of the league.

This. I've been lenient at the beginning because it's a new role so was looking for positives. I would expect improvement so will become increasingly harsh and against fairly limited ball players he has not taken control as he should. Must improve and improve quickly.

Agreed he needs to work on his defense and positioning. Not something I am going to burn him for after 4 games as I have seen positives.

He's got decent vis---you know I won't open up that can of worms :D (thankyouverymuch)--but more often than not, poor execution. Concedes possession needlessly (i.e. overhit A.Cole pass into space when he could have very well gone to feet). I admire that he is more often than not forward thinking, but he needs to know when to pick his spots, because his cavalier often hurts Chelsea when the opposition goes the other way. "Countless" mistakes are not what you want from a position that is close to goal especially one where there are forwards breathing down your neck from behind and mids harrying you from the front. Its no less worse to concede possession cheaply simply because your trying stuff and are positioned further forward. He is a CB and should remain that.

Positioning for the DM position requires awareness of the space around you and you should always make yourself available for a pass. Often times (unless he is bursting forward) Luiz is static after a pass. He rarely is open for the return ball, either his positioning is off our he has gone on a jaunt forward. He also gets caught chasing for to often and either concedes fouls or gets turned by opposition players aware that he is going to close him down (either by their own skill or via a 1-2). He needs to hold a line in front of defense.

Aye. And you'd have had a dozen posters to keep you company if the guy was Spanish :p

I think the collective opinion on the goal had it been Torres would have been "pfft, of course he scores from there, who doesn't"

Just saying we often watch the game we want to watch.

I have seen few positives today and during his last outing vs QPR

I am not as concerned about his attacking play, but as Cris points out his lack of general defensive play and positioning for someone who was a CD is appalling

    agreed and fair point

I suppose Ba is being given a fair look in and if we are being honest Torres has been given more than the benefit of the doubt- the same can said with Sheva

generally I believe when fans get fed up after giving a fair chance they have the right to have a moan

atm I would play Ram and Lamps or Luiz and Lamps

just not Ram and Luiz together as imo it is almost suicidal

and when we get some players fit again then move Luiz back to CD

I think Torres would have scored it had he been in the same position, but would he have reacted quickly, would he have maintained his run, would he have muscled past the defender? I don't know. Far to often from 5 yards, he's managed to muck it up by one of the prior.

So you are saying his countless mistakes are acceptable in defence rather than in dm? Sorry that does not make sense. And I have seen him play next to Torres when he was a CB. I do not think he is static. If at all he is so marauding, he isn't available for defense. I agree completely that defensively he needs some sense knocked into him. But his main attributes are his attacking instincts and maybe those could be honed. That is why I want to give him time in that position. And currently, we have no one who can play that role.

All this stems from the fact that I have never liked him in CB.

I think you are quite fair to do so as well

but for me- I think it is all about giving some of these lads a fair shout until it is time to moan

Wait. No. Where did you get that? I'm saying neither is fine. He should not be afforded "countless" mistakes in any position simply because he has ok vision and can hit a pass. The team should try to keep possession not give it away cheaply by forcing the issue.

But he should learn his role. Riccy was better going forward IMO and a better passer too and for my money could have played DM, not for those qualities, but because he was great at anticipation and understood how to cover and when to go forward and stay back. Luiz doesn't have that awareness it seems.
