Not the 13-1 basketball team? Speaking of which, why are they honoring the champions in what appears to be an empty Assembly Hall?
the fans were behind the camera so they could see what was going on. it would have been great fun to watch the back of the guys' heads right?
I would've expected them either to be honored at halftime of a bball game, in which case AH would be full, or to have a reception in a smaller venue.
they were honored at ht of a bball game... and at the colts game last sunday... the pic above was the night after they returned from alabama, and it seemed to be a smaller crowd of actual soccer supporters. you're right though, assembly hall did seem like overkill for what that night was.
As the post above said...they were honored at the IU-UNC basketball game prior to the quarterfinal match at UNC. They were honored at the Colts game last Sunday. They will be honored at the IUBB game vs. Wisconsin on Jan. 15. The pic is from a soccer-specific event held at Assembly the night after they came back. There were probably about 600 people there. There isn't really another venue to have something with that many people, and on such short notice. Also, the day after the championship game, finals week began. Then everyone scattered for holiday break. So they did something quick to have an immediate celebration, and now will have a few more things with the spring semester starting and everyone back in town.
Nope, not the 13-1 B-ball team. After all the B1G dust settles, IU B-ball will have more than 1 loss. The honors: there was supposed to be a rally the night the team returned on Sunday, but they got stuck in Nashville because of a rain storm (I drove back home thru it). So, they moved the rally to the following Monday. If you look at the IU Hoosiers website you'll see pictures of the crowd and the team signing autographs to a long line of admirers. This was followed by a second celebration at Yogi's (10th & Indiana), then 12/14 was declared IU Men's Soccer day in Monroe county. Finally, the team was honored at halftime of the Colts game on 1/3/2013. Other than that, there wasn't any hoopla.
The entire block IU is actually an outgrowth of our tailgates. Imagine 4 brats strategically situated with a rainbow of small burgers over them. **** ** ** I I I - + - I You get the idea.
After the past several championships, the teams were available for autographs and photosin the Fieldhouse then Assembly Hall on a Saturday or Sunday later in January. Is anything planned like that for this year?
I don't think anything is planned as they did a full team autograph session at the team celebration at Assembly Hall on Dec. 10. Not to mention most of the seniors graduated mid-semester and have moved out of Bloomington; one underclassman has moved on...
In his intro to the MLS Draft in Indy, Don Garber just described Todd Yeagley as a "legendary coach." Not yet, nowhere close.
