Well, they're certainly starting the year off with good news for the program... http://www.cosida.com/news.aspx?id=3893
I sure wish I knew. Got nothing on any of that yet, but not for a lack of trying. 12/12/2012, I asked Yedlin face-to-face if he had made his decision. He replied "No, not yet." Sadly, I interpret that to mean he is leaving. His raw athleticism will guarantee him making the reserve squad, but I do not think he will play much initially. To my amateur eyes, Yedlin is not quite ripe for the picking. He could ruin his potential to join the USMNT by jumping too early. Gallego and Serna are clearly and obviously not ready for MLS. I like the pro potential of both these players, but neither is ready to demand playing time at the next level. I will keep my ear to the ground.
Glad you asked. Zips need redemption for squandering enormous promise and talent in 2012. The best team does not always win; that is why the games are played. Zips Nation is painfully aware of that principle.
Akron were ranked #1 in the final regular season NSCAA coaches' poll. Evidently, there were others outside NEO who thought Zips were the best. Few outside Omaha would argue that Creighton were better than Akron. And yet Bluejays were best for one night. Scoreboard. In retrospect, I think Maryland were probably the best side, due to their offensive firepower. (64 goals?) But they did not even make it to the final. That is why they play the games. Cruel sport.
The final Massey Rating also had Akron at #1. But it bears emphasis that there was nothing cheap at all about Indiana's national title. Great post-season performance, deserving champions.
Akron & Maryland were best teams in college soccer. Deserved to beat Creighton in Omaha. Have not talked with any Jays fans that think we were superior to Akron.
i think akron was the most impressive team i saw last season. the way they dominated our boys for the first 30ish minutes at ND was unreal.
Like I said.. an Akron Maryland Matchup would have been well worth the price of admission... Sorry it didnt happen last year... I think Maryland picks it up to an even higher level going into next year.. maybe the match up is destined for next year...
Akron vs Maryland, while quality on paper probably couldn't touch the game of the year in Georgetown vs. Maryland. That game had one word to describe it. Wow!!!
I usually hear about new recruits early in January. This year, I know of only one, and we have known about him since before the 2012 season started. Maryland may be poised for a 2013 run at the title. I fear that unless Akron signs some blue chippers again, they will not be contending in 2013.
Just wondering if you were at the game.. I was. May not be in line with the popular opinion of the game..but really, were it not for that last 20 minutes... not sure we'd all be thinking it was a game to remember.. the silly goal off the goal keeper.. the very lucky strike off the post... and then 45 minutes of watching and waiting.. Had Maryland lost 3-1.... well.. not a game to remember... No doubt.. MD never gave up. in fact, I've never seen them give up, but.. there was a lot of back and forth for the middle 45 mintes .....
I watched it on tv - every minute - .... and the last 20 minutes did happen so ... lucky strike off the post ? you mean the swerving ball that Newman hit ? what if Christian Laettner misses the shot in the Duke / Kentucky game ? Great game but what makes it legendary is that he DID make the shot. The last 20 minutes happened so that makes it the game of the year and one that probably no one could have topped this year. Best game I've seen live or otherwise since Duke beat UVA in the 1995 Semis to end Bruce Arena's college career.
The Georgetown vs Maryland game was definitely one to remember! Except for losing, I really enjoyed the Charlotte vs North Carolina championship game last year. I think that game will be remembered for the goal that was not scored in the last 10 minutes and of course the nice strike by Speas
Yes - the "swerving ball" Neuman hit... It was well struck.. Anyway -back to the zips.. ey? Im interested to see how the recruiting is going for 2013.. any insight FUBO?
As far as I know, we have this guy, who looks to be a pretty good one. I know of none else. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player...jem/pid-1005091
Sandon...really? I think a lot of people would argue they were the best team in the country. In fact, all five polls said they were. Anyone watching the Creighton game knows that Akron thoroughly outplayed Creighton for 95 of the 110 minutes (I have the film, would be glad to rehash it, ive seen it about 7,000 times). They also beat the eventual NCAA Champions.
Well you can add another one as of last night. Local kid out of Copley. International SC, so you know he's worked with Embick before. Top Drawer Soccer - Riley Grant US Soccer Development Academy - Riley Grant
