Back to St James's after a pretty shitty festive period, to be fair we were never likely to pick up points from trips to Old Trafford and the Emirates, but the manner of capitulation, particularly in the Arsenal game leaves a sour taste.

More injury concerns as Danny Simpson is now out with a broken toe, everyone seems convinced that Cabaye's mate Debuchy is on his way in, so that shouldn't be too big a problem in the long term, but it will effect us in this match. My guess would be Perch playing full back, which isn't the best of news as he only really excels in a DM role, especially with Everton's attacking talent down their left side.

There was some talk of Anita being available for this but I haven't heard anything fresh confirming this. In good news it seems as though Cabaye and Saylor are back in training but their return is still expected to be weeks away. And it remains to be seen if Ba plays given his whoring himself around, there seems to be a feeling that we should sit him and make Cisse the main man. Easier said than done though when for all the speculation Ba remains our biggest goal threat.

    Howay the Lads! and Discuss.

Chelsea have apparently triggered the release clause so no Ba tonight.

Krul looks on his game, has been alert to 2-3 pretty good chances.

Nothing Krul could do about Baines equaliser. We've been playing quite well without really getting in many chances.

Thought we looked good defending for all the pressure Everton applied. But maybe Krul's save on Baines' first free kick had him leaning on the second one, which clearly was covered by the wall and swerved the other way. Obviously the fouls in close (and past 30yds evidently) need to be addressed. I thought we had the better of the chances going forward as well. Our deliberate build-up play paying more dividends than the run-and-shoot attack of Everton.

    Thx,

    Jay!

FFS Santon...both the goal and the missed cross.

Martin Atkinson did us no favors, either.

In the end, it's our depth. And I hate that we have to buy in the January window, but if they had spent in August, we wouldn't be in a relegation battle.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Nine losses in eleven games,...would be a sackable offense any where else.

On one hand, he's on a massive contract and the players know he's not going anywhere so they'll have to right the ship under Pardew. OTOH, we're in that same spiral of success/failure that Pards has had at his other stops.

    Thx,

    Jay!

I read somewhere that Pardew supposedly only gets a year's salary if sacked. Surely that's consideration for Ashley to pull the trigger.

Only Reading are on worse form last 10 matches than we are. Need I remind our only six points in that stretch came against QPR and 10-man Wigan.

I'm thinking it's the other way about, the players know that he isn't going anywhere (and anywhere fast, except downtable) and are going thru the motions rather vaguely and putting up with him, or outright ignoring him. It's pretty obvious they aren't motivated or a unified unit; nor do they look like they even are trying to right anything.

Looks like Ba was a poisioned chalice, and Pardew did all he could to mollify and keep him. Maybe Pardew learned something from his experience with Tevez and and went the opposite direction in handling Ba.

Thing of it is Moyes came to St James with a plan, he knew where we were weak and how to exploit it. Pardew doesn't do that, his tactics were limited to figuring out how to keep Ba in the center scoring goals as if Ba was the only way we could win...

....and since Ba wasn't in the middle anymore, he did the only thing he knew how to do:

    Bring on Shola!

Sigh, it's a sad day when you need to rely on Shola and you're not playing the Mackems

As easy as it is to blame Pardew, I'm not convinced its all his fault. I do think he has made some tactical mistakes but we are back to our dark past when squad selection was based on the walking wounded. I wasn't convinced we needed all the reinforcements others were calling for and have, obviously, been proven wrong. This horrible start is squarely on the shoulders of DL and MA not spending enough in the summer.

We all knew we needed a fullback and a center back in the summer. That part is on the owners. The idea of screwing Cisse to appease Ba (and the rest of the dysfunction) has to do with Pardew. I think the ineffectiveness of the squad was part of the reason we were losing so much -- the defense has only really been an issue in the last few games.

Think that's a product of the confidence a manger is supposed to instill by putting guys in the best position to succeed. Which clearly doesn't happen often enough here.

    yes and repped.

and for the record I don't believe its all Pardew's fault, I believe almost any manager in this situation would have had a tough time dealing with this. I believe Pardew has failed in managing the situation and because of that we have sauntered, rather vaguely, downward. I have little confidence he can manage us out of this mess. Im hoping to be proven wrong

It should not have taken an injury to have Jonas dropped from the starting XI. I know he is a vice-captain but his form has been poor all season. Pardew seems reluctant to make any sort of change unless his hand is forced. How many games does he start 4-4-2 and then switch to 4-3-3 when things aren't working?
