First game of the New Year and only one Yank will be starting this one. Lichaj has been benched after his poor performance last week. Guzan in net to start the new year.

Starting XI: Guzan, Lowton, Clark [c], Bennett, Herd, Weimann, Delph, Stevens, Westwood, Benteke, Albrighton.

Subs: Given, Ireland, Holman, Bowery, Bannan, Lichaj.

Notice only 6 subs. That is how bad Villa have been ravaged by injuries.

TBH it's hard not to predict anything but Michu running riot against that defence.

They don't have an academy kid to make up the numbers? There's never any reason for a Prem League club to field a short bench.

There was a late addition so they have 7 on the bench now.

Guzan with a brilliant break away stop. Routledge got a threw ball and had about 30 yards of a clean break away on Guzan. Guzan stops it then the rebound fell to Michu and Guzan stones him too. Top class saves

Routledge gets put in 1 on 1 but "Guzman" makes a good save to deny him. That's the 2nd straight game where the announcer called him Guzman.

Guzan is the oldest player in the squad today at the old age of 28. Next oldest is Marc Albrighton who is 23.

This is insane. Routledge gets through 1 on 1 again and rounds Guzan and scores. Then Michu somehow almost scores from the Villa kickoff, we missed how because they were showing replays.

Swansea Goal: Routledge goes on another break away but this time he rounds Guzan for a easy finish. Right off the kick off Swansea steal the ball and Michu hits the post. Graham also just missed a sitter. All this is 10 minutes in.

I can't watch this one, but I'm sure Herd is to blame. :p

I still have no idea what Lowton has done to deserve his automatic starter status. Lichaj is a better all around player.

Well by some miracle, the game is tied 1-1 at half. Villa probably deserve the luck they have gotten so far after the last 3 games.

sorry just to confirm what's the score is it 1-1 or 11-0 for Swansea?

Just kidding, just kidding... seriously though Villa scoring will be a huge boost for them... as would a point here..

They did, but they did not hold it. Swansea get an equalizer in the 5th minute of stoppage time for a 2-2 draw. Lichaj did not play.

Swansea got a last minute equalizer after some back to the wall defending led to a well struck shot by Graham that went through a mess of bodies and beat Guzan. It might have been slightly deflected. Still a good point away from home and hopefully that will give them some confidence.

That really hurt as a fan. I cant believe that we only got a point after all that great defending. Holman's one lazy challenge caused that goal.

Well Villa have been linked with a few good players. Apparently Lambert wants Donovan, Keane, and Kolo Toure.

I'm telling you - Chris Samba & Darren Fletcher on loans. They'd do the trick.

I'd love to see LD play for AV and save them from relegation but I think he really loves Everton and hopes to play there if he doesn't retire.
