Moving 10 Or More Places In Consecutive Seasons

    Everton was 7th in 2002-2003, 17th in 2003-2004, and 4th in 2004-2005. Does anybody know of another club that moved up 10 or more spots and down 10 or more spots in consecutive seasons? The move can be either direction first such as 15-5-15 or 5-15-5.

    Nottingham Forest came 3rd in the 2nd Division in 1976/77 then won the 1st division in 1977/78.
    Forest also came 2nd in the new 1st Division (was the 2nd Division before the Premier League started) in 1993/94 then came 3rd in the Premier League in 1994/95.
    They followed that up with a 9th place finish in 1995/96 then a 20th and last place finish in 1996/97. After that they did a yo-yo by winning the 1st Division (old Division 2) in 1997/98 then again coming 20th and last in the Premier League in 1998/99.

    I don't think they've done the movement of 10 places in two consecutive seasons like the Everton example, although in the 2nd tier (now the Championship) since they were last relegated from the Premier League they have had a few seasons where they moved up or down 10 places from the previous season too, and they did move up 10 places then down 8 places between 2001/02 and 2003/04.

    They also came 8th in Division 1 (old format) in 1991/92 before coming 22nd and last in the new Premier League in 1992/93 - after that they did a mini yo-yo as described in the first pargraph above.

    Having said all that, between 1977/78 and 1991/92 they were always in the top 10 of the First Division and a few times they came in the same place as the season before or only 1 place away IIRC! Basically after the jump from 3rd in Division 2 to winning Division 1 (and 2 European Cups to follow) they became very stable in terms of League position with Brian Clough as manager but have been much more variable since but with a slightly similar thing happening initially with Frank Clark as manager (2nd in 2nd tier to 3rd in 1st tier).

    Norwich City also moved up 15 then down 9 places between 1991/92 and 1993/94 (18th, 3rd, 12th).

    It's happened a few times with promoted teams to the top flight in England. 1st season - promotion, 2nd season - top 10 finish, 3rd season relegation battle.

    Burnley 1947 (2nd Div 2), 1948 (3rd Div 1), 1949 (15th Div 1)
    Ipswich 1961 (1st Div 2), 1962 (1st Div 1), 1963 (17th Div 1)
    Swansea in 1981 (3rd Div 2), 1982 (5th Div 1), 1983 (21st Div 1)
    Reading in 2006 (3rd Champ), 2007 (8th PL), 2008 (18th PL)

    Seeing that reminded me of another one by Ipswich:
    99/00 (3rd Div 1), 00/01 (5th PL), 01/02 (18th PL)
    Charlton also got promoted the same season, winning the 1st Division, and followed it with a top 10 finish then a lower half finish but the movement was only 5 places between those 00/01 and 01/02 seasons.

    George Burley was Manager of the Season with Ipswich for 2000/01 I remember, though Houllier won multiple cups with Liverpool.
