Should be a good preseason. 4 other MLS sides will be there (D.C. United, Philadelphia Union, Sporting Kansas City, Montreal Impact) and 3 lower division sides will be there too for us to test new formations and players (Orlando City, Tamba Bay, and Toronto F.C).

For those interested in making plans, SWA has one way fares as low as $115/person right now, CMH->MCO. Some other days are more expensive, but it looks like they're going to be down there for so long, you should be able to really get some good deals.

And honestly - while that's good - you can get better to/from CMH-MCO on SWA.
Our family of three can typically get down there for less than $500 total if you play it right.

If you can't fly SWA, perhaps because they do not fly to your destination, I recommend a "miles" credit card. There are some good deals going around right now. Delta is offering a card giving 45K bonus miles--and that's 3/4th of the way to an RT trip to Europe. American gives $40K--and they have a bonus plan where you can fly to some destinations for half the miles. Both Delta and Amercian give a free checked bag if you use their card to buy the ticket *and* priority boarding. That made a big difference to us when we went to LA last month. We did not need to check our carryons at the gate (all of our flights were full) as we were on before almost everyone else. The only drawback is a $95 annual fee--but you save that with not having to pay the bag fee. They also gave my wife two one day club passes for here AA card and that gets you free drinks (including alcohol), snacks, and internet. That was pretty nice for us on our return trip from Cali.

If you want to stay on Disney Property, I would check out the Mouseowners.com Dis.com rental board were people like me that will not be using their Disney Vacation Club points and they rent their points out, The rooms are bigger but you don't get maid service every day. you get all the benefits of a Hotel guest (Magic Hours, Magic Express from the Airport) but it will be at a lower cost and you should be able to get a studio or a one-bedroom at only $10 a point. for example if you want a studio at Animal Kingdom Lodge and want to stay February 7-10 it would only be 36 points or 360 for a standard view if you want a Savanna view it's 55 points or 550 dollars Animal Kingdom is the Cheapest and this is Value season right now. I know we will not be using all of our points this year so PM if interested.

Heh heh. It seems like Delta is always towards the more-expensive side of things, FWIW. I just saw a tweet pop up that included the phrase "excruciatingly slow boarding process."

    There's also this review:
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/screw-delta.897063/

Maybe they've changed their ways, but whenever someone mentions Delta, that's the link I think of.

Well the big airlines certainly are far from perfect, but these deals may appeal to some--bargains are bargains. When you can get 3/4th of the airfare to Europe just for getting a credit card, no wonder they have to charge for bags. Interestingly, we've found that the international service on both Delta and AA tends to be better than the domestic service, as that's where the $$$ are. We've still had some challenges. AA service tends to be really, really good--or horrid. we had some really good folks help us with travel problems (cancelled flights and lost luggage) and some, well, the less said the better. Sometimes the extremes were within 5 minutes of each other.

I guess I'm with Ken on this one, RE Delta. I have a Skymiles AMEX, and for a $95/year fee, I get one free bag for everyone in my group (up to 8 ppl I think), Zone 1 boarding, and a $99 r/t Companion Voucher. The voucher by itself usually pays for my annual fee. And we do enough traveling annually that we'll use the voucher.
Now of course, the voucher has limitations and restrictions, but it saved me almost $300 on our trip to Las Vegas this past month when accounting for bags each way, and the fare difference. And the Zone 1 Boarding is nice little perk so you're assured an overhead bin if you have a larger carryon, and time to get into your seat and get settled in.
I've flown Delta almost exclusively (among the legacy carriers) for the last four or five years, and the overall experience has become MUCH, much better than it was back in '07 or '08. It still doesn't compare to SWA IMO, but it is better than it was. I used to fly Continental pre-merger, on a non-rev ticket, and the overall experience there was ALWAYS much worse than what I've experienced on Delta. And I generally don't fly AA. In fact, the last time I flew AA I think, was September, 2001. They generally aren't competitive on the routes and days I've chosen.
When I fly to the northeast, it's almost always on Delta. When I fly south, it's almost always on SWA.

    So, what you're saying is:

"I generally don't fly AA, but when I do...it's uncompetitive. Stay flying, my friends."

I saw this on the MLS news forum, The Crew get a Kick back for every vacation package sold, also Disney is using public funds for this event, to the tune of 1 million dollars
The teams also get a fee of 30,000.00 for this event.

I think they see the gravy train that MLB spring training is and hope to pick up some of that. Having done Spring Training in Clearwater last year, it can be a lot of fun, but baseball's been doing it for decades now, and I think MLS has a ways to go on this one. One thing they *should* do is make the players accessible. That's one reason Spring Training works for MLB.

They are accessible if you purchase one of the packages.
It is included in the top and middle tier package under "VIP" per the travel agents.

That makes sense--the Phils have a meet and greet brunch in their travel packages (which was not bad, though there was no autograph seassion)--it's how I got into the park early during batting practice and snagged 4 baseballs thanks to Jim Thome, one of which left a rather nice bruise on my arm when I misjudged it.

Worth the bruise!! Loved Jim Thome with the indians!

Looks like the 4 games will be all the preseason we get with the opener on March 2.

4 games to look at 16 new players, form chemistry, get in soccer shape and come together.

...am i off base here thinking we are already effed.

It was (and *that* ball I kept), and I agree--loved him with the Phils too (both times), but then Ryan came along.

If we're off the week of March 9, we'll probably have a college team or two in for scrimmages. Of course that only helps the guys already on the roster and doesn't help separate the various bubble guys before the roster and cap compliance dates.
