Did a website registration look-up on NYCityFC.com and found that it was registered on December 15th as a private registration by Domains by Proxy, LLC. I've also found that same company is how PhiladelphiaUnion.com is resgistered (but instead of being private registration it has contact info now).
Not to be too nitpicky, but the trademark was merely applied for on December 14th, not registered. And it could not be registered anyway, because MLS is not actually using the trademark. Indeed, the application was filed under section 1B, meaning that they have a bona fide intent to use the trademark in the future, but they are not using it yet. As soon as they launch New York City FC, then they can move forward with the registration. But this does not change the fact that MLS is looking at this name very closely. (It's just not a done deal, and many companies file many potential names as "intent to use" under 1B before they settle on one.
