"uncertainty persists over whether the new government will continue financial backing of the Islanders in time for the start of the 2013 season, if at all."

To quote one of Kenn's buddies; things change on the fly, embrace it! ;)

Definitely some trouble in paradise. It's a good thing the league visionaries put that split season in place, isn't it?

Here's what it proves: there are always going to be issues.

So down to 7 teams for the opening season.

So 12 game season for spring and 16 game season for the fall?

That makes 28...or...the same number they played last year!

    See how things work out?

Hey maybe we can get the Barracudas to replace them.

Do they have any elections coming up?

Their FA is having its general election soon, actually. Maybe today. That may impact Barracuda FC, don't know.

You know thay should play the spring season, then reorginize and "loan" all their players to the Cosmos so the Cosmos can play the fall season. ;)

Really I hope this is not the start of the end for the Islanders, hopefully they do make a comeback if not in 2013 then in 2014.

Absolutely ridiculous. Really starting to come out why the league switched to this format.

I hope they have a rule or something where the Cosmos and PRI can play in the 2013 NASL bowl or something.

But that may be too much to ask I guess.

Very concerning. How will US Soccer address this? All leagues must be approved for sanctioning each year. Another waiver perhaps?

Hey it is soccer in America. Hundreds of these type of stories. As Ken put's it "American Exceptionalism" in the sport of soccer. No pro/rel, these club's in the Nasl and USL Pro, will continue to "take time off" or just fold.
PRI at one time drew 5,500 a game, the Rhinos were up at 11,000 and countless others have done well for a short period of time. No hope of playing in the top league, the fan's will not come out. Soccer fans in America or Canada can not be fooled.

Keep it up MLS owners, keep " protecting the investment". Good job USSF, pro/rel "will never work " so we will let everyone under the MLS fold.

Plain and simple, broke. Need time to find money for another two season's.
It will happen again and again. Soccer fan's will not support a pro team not capable of moving up a pyramid.

Really interested to see what the new Commish says. I imagine there will be more over the top spin heading our way. The new schedule and NASL 2013 isn't exactly off to a roaring start, eh?

And this folks is what hijacking a thread and throwing garbage everywhere looks like. Sort of a habit with you, ain't it?

To be fair, you'd spin it, too. We all would. You just hope you don't have many days where you have to say stuff with a straight face.

(It's not countless. It can be counted. Others have done well for a short period of time. But...got news for you: the lack of pro/rel ain't the problem that makes things like this happen. Unless you'd like to explain San Antonio. And Orlando.)

And - you probably haven't noticed this, seeing as how you're dense - there IS a mechanism for lower-level teams to make it to MLS. It's just not winning an eight-team league and getting in through the back door.
