Hey folks, just checking in. First off, and most importantly, Happy Holidays. Secondly, thanks for making the last twelve months one of the easier to mod around here. It makes our job a lot less frustrating then it could be (trust me, my other hobby involves doing dispute resolution for a Top-20 in the world website, and I'm GLAD my term is over as of Jan 1 over there!)

But to get to the point, a couple of years ago, we had a BigSoccer requested poll to see how you guys thought we were doing. Monty and I have been doing this for several years right now, and I think it's good that every so often that we get the pulse of you guys and gals on what kind of a job we're doing... a performance review so to speak.

So, I've set up this poll for you to grade the job we're doing. It'll run for 15 days. If you have specific feed back for us (that we're too strict, too lenient, that we're not funny enough, etcetera, leave a comment in this thread :)

Foz and Monty do a great job on the board. Glad you're seeking honest feedback from us. If the revs ran the board, you could do a crappy job and then get promoted to SuperMod!

    Well since you asked.

I no longer post because I got tired of how rude many of the regular posters who. I think Monty (that's "patfan," right?) contributes to the lack of civility -- he himself doesn't toss about insults, but he encourages others. He repped one poster who "seriously" wanted to fight me because of a post I made. I think Monty's incessant whining also contributes to a bad tone on the board. Since I stopped posting, I've been reading other teams' boards and you don't find the same level of negativity on them -- not even on the Philadelphia board, where they have plenty to be negative about, given the management screw-ups the past few years.

All that said, I continue to read this board regularly partly for the same reason you slow down to look at a traffic accident, partly because there is a lot of news posted here (some by Monty, to give him credit), and partly because there are still some people posting who make interesting analysis.

The mods are great so long as you agree with them. If you have a differing opinion, well, then its a green light for everyone to jump on board and attack.

Really? I post different opinions (like this one) all the time and haven't experienced that.

I could do without some of the constant hijacking of threads. Kraft doesn't have to be brought up in every thread. We get it, very few people like him, but it doesn't need to be posted on a Lee Nguyen thread.

Some people take this way too personally. I've argued loads with RevsLiverpool over players/tactics, but I'd go have a beer with him in a minute. Who knows, I probably have but just don't know who he is in real life. It would be nice if people could drop the silly name calling and just argue with facts and opinion rather than taking it to a personal level.

That said, it's the only place I know of with active talk about the Revs. Twitter is fine for news, but the commentary is awful.

Not to highjack this thread, but can I please get that jersey you owe me? You haven't replied to any of my PMs.

Are you repeatedly attacked in every thread for either being a member of the Kraft organization, or some insult about being Albanian?

Sometimes people will argue with me just to argue. Just look at the "new Revs employee" thread.

"Maybe they don't teach this in the Albanian MBA programs, but if people are buying Revolution tickets, yet given a choice, the team does not lose anything in total attendance. It is just a matter of where they sit. And if they are going to sit, everyone would be happier if they were in a "regular" section."

I never discussed anything differently. The discussion was about where people are sitting, I don't know why that person wrote as if I was saying that it would have an affect on the total attendance. This happens all the time thought, write something silly and in the manner to reflect as if I was supporting that silly proposition when I wasn't.

Well sorry to hear that JD. Don't stress, give it right back! Be snarky. Aren't you a lawyer (esq)? Thought you liked the banter? As husky said, the board is best when its not taken personally. I would have beers with any of you even if we vehemently disagree.

I guess I don't really understand the policy on trolling. To me the first job of the moderators ought to be to crack down on it, but there's been a heck of a lot of latitude shown -- way too much, in my book. So I'm not really seeing sins of commission on the part of the mods, but maybe some sins of omission.

Well, personally I don't like to be a heavy handed moderator, but when the number of reports that Monty and I get indicate that people are starting to have problems (Not just number of reports, but the number of people MAKING the reports), that's when we step in. I figure we're (mostly ;)) adults here, and if people see a problem, they're willing to let us know.. but we won't step in otherwise.

lmao talk about hypocrisy. I don't think I've seen a poster in an internet forum be more baiting and argumentative...only to whine anytime someone disagrees with them hahah Chapeau, sir

I also love how you condescendingly tell people in one breathe that they are caustic, and then in another that they bring good analysis and should stop being so negative. Yet, I don't think I've ever seen you bring any news or actual analytics to the table. You've only ever argued with someone for the sake of being contrarian on these boards.

I mostly agree with KapeGuy. It appears to me that most of the folks still posting here are the ones who like it like this, or at least don't mind it. I check in from time to time to pick up news (hard to come by elsewhere, sadly) but am generally turned off by the discussion and leave again for a few weeks. Not saying it has to change; if you like it like this, please continue to enjoy it in good health. But my opinion is that it could be a more interesting place with a broader range of viewpoints present, and that it will require a somewhat firmer level of moderation than we have seen to get it. I didn't volunteer for the job, so I'm not criticizing the current mods; it's a thankless job at the best of times. But the best online communities I've seen have someone making sure that folks with minority viewpoints are not shouted down in the name of "banter" and that conversations about a given topic are not constantly hijacked and dragged off for a ride on the hobby horses of those who can't let go of some grievance.

That's my feedback, for what it's worth.

If the team provided it's fans and customers with a broader range of topics to discuss...we would discuss them. Quite honestly, what should we discuss, that we don't discuss? What should we be positive about, that warrants positivity?

There are some people who post these sort of messages all the time, but they themselves never bring any real topics to the table. They never bring any thoughtful discussion to the table. If you want things to change, then post about things you would like to post about. Otherwise, this is the reality of being a Revs fan. Positivity is born by the team, and the actions it takes. Fans just react to the state of the team, and right now, it is quite dire.

I'm not sure I agree with that. You guys are participants in the forums as well as the rest of us. You should know as well as anybody, by your own experience, who is trolling. You don't need our permission to ban somebody for trolling -- that comes with the territory of being a mod.

And as an aside, with the redesign, it's not as easy as it used to be to report bad behavior. I imagine a lot of complaints go unmade because of the (admittedly small) hurdle to doing so.

For good or bad, we do appreciate the comments. Some of you want us (well, me, specifically) fired, and that's fine. I can do without this non-paying job. ;)

In all seriousness though, my moderating style is to pretty much let things go as long as it doesn't get personal. When the personal attacks start is where I choose to step in. Outside of that, I also work on the theory that we're adults here (in age, not actions!) and that we should be able to discuss our opinions as emotionally as we support our team. This is a discussion board for a sport that requires passion. Therefore, the conversations very frequently get passionate. I, personally, enjoy that.

To commit oneself emotionally to a business enterprise that is poorly run and largely indifferent to that fact requires either cognitive dissonance or a certain degree of compartmentalization. The moderators can't really be held responsible for the fact that the former predominates around here.

This - perfectly said, bolding mine. Some advice for those who don't frequent the board or read but don't post. Instead of complaining about the regulars (this is a hobby for all of us), be productive and start a thread about something rev related you want to talk about that isn't already covered. Maybe you like Diego's haircut or Sene's shoes. Go for it.

Also, if you don't like anyone specific, use your ignore button liberally. Pretty soon your experience of this board will be customized into a more polite and passion-free place. A true Kraft Sports Group experience! ;)

But honestly, in a practical sense what else is there to talk about besides the existing rev news, analysis and game threads? We work with what we're given.

The problem is that some people actualyl think that this business is being run properly. Afterall, Kraft is just waiting until he builds an urban SSS to start taking this team seriously...
