I'm sure the mods will create a new Forum for the new league.

For now, I'd like to start a discussion for the Chicago Red Stars, news, events, for the upcoming 2013 season.

    So.....

First on the list is the announcement of the coaching staff:

    http://chicagoredstars.net/2012/12/12/red-stars-announce-2013-coaching-staff/

    Head Coach - Rory Dames
    1st Assistant - Stephanie Foster
    2nd Assistant - Christian Lavers
    Goalkeeper Coach - Trae Manny

I dunno, WPSA is pretty close to WPS, and the WPS forums have functioned as the catch-all 'wps' (lowercase) location, so... (I mean, this thread could've been created in the existing CHI forum. All the infrastructure is here, just needs to be shuffled around a bit.)

Looking forward to more awesomeness from the Red Stars after a great past two seasons. I'm expecting Chalupny to come back to the States, and while I would love for her to come to DC, I would expect she returns to CHI and I'd be okay with that. Just please, PLEASE, don't let KC snag her.

Maybe rename the WPS Forum to "Most Current top Division in USA Women Soccer" or something similar but shorter. "Top women US Soccer League"

Just drop all other threads under the “expansion/Sabbatical sub forum”

Well it is National Women's Soccer League. The Redstars will play in lisle I guess. I wish the owners would say how much they would have to pay to play at toyota park. I can't believe that TP would demand so much in rent considering they have almost nothing going on there besides the fire. Playing at a college on artificial turf just screams amatuer.

You and I have talked about this. I would love for them to play at Toyota Park. Great stadium, real grass. Just too big for the women.
I personally hate artificial turf especially with football lines.

Having been in Seattle now for 8 months that's all there is in Seattle, artificial turf fields everywhere, I guess because of all the rain. Where the women Sounders play at Starfire Complex is artificial turf. However it still looks like a soccer field. No football lines. It is actually perfect for awomen's pro team. Can hold between 5-7,000 and looks intimate and cozy.
I wish there was something like it in Chicago.

I HATE FOOTBALL LINES ON A FIELD DURING A SOCCER GAME!!

The new approach to this league, it seems is cost cutting. They can't afford to pay $50,000 a night to to play and turn on the lights at an MLS SSS nor can they afford to pay a player $90,000 a year.

Benedictine wouldn't be so bad if the football lines weren't there, IMO. Yuck!
Hey, at least they sell beer there. Most college stadiums do not.

I still can't understand why it should cost $50,000 or even anything close to that. The field is sitting there with nobody using it when the fire is not there. How can TP hold the redstars up? You can have GA so you wouldn't need ushers. What costs so much to open the stadium. You can have minimal security, there are no fights at women's games.Bridgeview could keep the parking money as part of their fee.

I have been to Benedict ant to Northwester to watch the red stars play, Benedict playing field>>> Northwestern field, IMO. (The good thing about NW is that I can get there by train).

They also played some games at some other school (can't remember the name right now) I do not know how that field looked.

Peter wilt told me it would cost 10,000-15,000 minimum per game to play at toyota park although I'm still not sure why it should cost that much. If you can't afford a decent stadium with real grass and real seats maybe you shouldn't play at all.

Although I don't like artificial turf at least seattle plays in a major league stadium. I don't expect the lower leagues to play in major league stadiums.

Starfire Stadium may not be Major League (Sounders Men play at CenturyLink where Seahawks play), but it is very cozy and very "soccerish". The whole Starfire complex is for soccer only. There are a bunch of soccer fields on the complex.
There are covered stands and stands on the other side.
    They also sell adult beverages.
    Perfect for women's pro.
I wish Chicago had something like this.

Here is a video showing the Red Stars 1st season in the WPS in 1999. Still brings a little tear to my eye.

From the opening game trip on the bus to St. Louis to the trip to DC to see the Doubleheader - Fire vs. DC United/ Red Stars vs. Freedom to Cristiane's hat trick. -What a year, what a season, what fun!

That was one of the best and most fun times I ever had as a fan of any team, at any sport.

The Red Stars were one of the most passionate franchises in WPS, especially in the first year of the league. They did underachieve in the standings (for their talent level) as much as anyone in the league. They had "playoff" talent, but never did make the playoffs in either year they were in WPS.

It is needed in this new league, for a team in the Midwest to be a Top 4 team in the league.
It can't just be dominated by Seattle, Portland, Western NY, Boston, or DC, etc.
Chicago or KC needs to be in that Top 4. You want strong teams in each region (West, Central, East) in the country. That would be very healthy for the league.

You are right. We were (and still are) a passionate fan group. I will never forget the bus ride to St. Louis for the inaugural game. We had a blast. We reperesented Chicago big that day and made the event even better with our numbers.

Chicago may have to carry the Midwest passion in this league.
Kansas City is very passionate for men's soccer, but the jury is still out for women's soccer.
I think they'll be passionate enough. I hope so. And who knows, they may become as passionate as Chicago. Kansas City is a soccer loving area.

St. Louis wasn't the best city in the Midwest for women's soccer.
Columbus would have been better even, plus they have a good stadium.

Best Midwest Cities for a Women's soccer professional franchise (fan enthusiasm, demand):
    1.) Chicago
2.) Denver (if you were to count them in the Midwest)
    3.) Kansas City
    4.) Columbus
    5.) St. Louis

Detroit, Indianapolis, and Milwaukee are not strong enough for women's soccer demand.

On another thought. The next time I see Arnim or Alyse, I am going to recommend a Hall of Fame, like the Chicago Fire have the "Ring of Fire",

I think the Red Stars have been around long enough now to start inducting former players into the Hall of Fame.

What could we call this "Hall of Fame"? And who would be the first inductees?

I would nominate Karen Carney, Caroline Jonsson, and Marcia McDermott as the first inductees.

Would "Hall of Stars" be too clichéd?

The Cold Play song Vivi La Vida (When I ruled the World) toward the end of the video always brings back memories of that 99 season when I hear it on the radio.

As a matter of fact when I went to see MagicJack in Florida a couple years ago, after seeing my Red Stars for the first time since the team "took a break" (Ella, Marian Dalmy, Jill Loyden, Lydia, etc.) playing for MJ, after the game I got into my car to leave the parking lot and guess what song started playing on the radio as I turned the car on...you guessed it. What timing.
Couldn't help but get a little choked up.
