Sorry to bump this without a compelling reason, i.e. no camp roster, but Goff sketches the following outline ... http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/soccer-insider/wp/2012/12/11/2013-soccer-calendar/ Jan. 14-31: U.S. training camp at Home Depot Center (mostly MLS players) Jan. 26: Canada vs. Denmark friendly in Tucson, Ariz. Jan. 30: Proposed U.S. home friendly I will add that Mexico plays Denmark on Jan. 30, per FIFA, so we won't be playing Denmark. That would make Canada a possibility, though I would think it would make more sense to play a 'Latin-style' team, even if many of the players playing (at the camp and in the friendly) will not be traveling to Honduras the following week.
Judging by this, I'm not expecting Jones to be at Camp Cupcake at all unless his suspension is kept at 4 matches. Even with the lengthy travel required in a 3 match suspension, I would still have expected Jones if Klinsmann schedules a US friendly on the 26th or earlier. But there's no point in Jones coming over here to train but not play if he has to return to Germany prior to February 6th, since he can just train with Schalke.
Is Schalke appealing the suspension? Because if they aren't, he wouldn't be eligible for Schalke until February 9th. Given that they let Jones go to Camp Cupcake last year while suspended, I don't see why he couldn't come this year.
And Canada it is, on Tuesday, January 29 in Houston ... http://www.soccerbyives.net/2012/12/usmnt-to-face-canada-on-jan-29th-in-houston.html Camp now slated for "Jan. 15th to January 28th."
Ives also volunteers his projested camp roster ... http://www.soccerbyives.net/2012/12...uld-klinsmann-call-into-the-january-camp.html GOALKEEPER- Nick Rimando, Sean Johnson, Bill Hamid DEFENDERS- Omar Gonzalez, Matt Besler, Austin Berry, Amobi Okugo, Steve Beitashour, Kofi Sarkodie, Justin Morrow, Seth Sinovic MIDFIELDERS- Graham Zusi, Mix Diskerud, Josh Gatt, Chris Pontius, Jermaine Jones, Alejandro Bedoya, Kyle Beckerman, Ricardo Clark FORWARDS- Terrence Boyd, Eddie Johnson, Juan Agudelo, Chris Wondolowski
That means 27 days until roster is released! (Assuming they wait until the Sunday before to release it).
They are. So if his suspension is reduced, I don't expect Jones at Camp Cupcake since the only match would be too late in the camp for him to be able to play as he would be back in Germany.
Ricardo better not get a callup over Kitchen/Mccarty...Steve Clark should get a callup, and I expect Goodson to be there
He's made January camps in the past, last getting capped in Jan. 2008, IIRC, and he made a Gold Cup roster back in Bruce's day.
Not that I disagree that Davis shouldn't be with the NT in January, but those 5 senior caps he had (to include the "meaningless" Gold Cup in 2005) don't count as a previous shot? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Davis_(soccer) Davis received his first cap for the senior team July 7, 2005 in a Gold Cup match against Cuba. He also converted the clinching penalty kick in the United States' shootout victory over Panama in the Gold Cup final.
Right, he's received a few caps several years ago, but they were just before he started to become an assist machine in 2009. He was good before, but since becoming the top left mid in MLS he hasn't been given much of a chance. Not to say others like Pontius deserve a shot sometime too, though. I read that on Ives and I'm sure a large number are true however I do question the following: Clark, Wondo, Pontius Clark - why? well past expiration date and has no chance of coming back Wondo - JK has seen, doesn't appear to like him Pontius - also dont think JK seems to like him In addition I think Parkhurst has a chance since his league is off. If he is in the middle of a transfer though..prob not Long shot - Benny. Why not? If JK could get thru to him, he does offer an AM option we don't have. A new team may have improved his attitude
Pontius was called up for one round of qualifiers last year but declined due to injury. He's had some bad timing with other callups due to injury as well. I fully expect to see him called up. As for Clark and Wondo, if this were a full camp, I agree they wouldn't have much chance for a call up. But it's Camp Cupcake. Options are more limited. Clark if you recall scored at the last Camp Cupcake. Personally I would call up Conor O'Brien instead of him, but just like Parkhurst, he is in the middle of a transfer, and both might be headed to leagues that don't have as short a winter break as Denmark.
Love the defense call-ups. Zero establishment there, will be interesting to see which creams rises to the top.
Updated guess at Camp Cupcake roster: G (3): Rimando, Hall, Johnson/Hamid. Tally Hall deserves to be there, needs to be given a shot. CB (4): Gonzalez, Besler, John, Goodson - Let these 4 battle it out for a place on Hex roster. FB (4): Pearce, Beitashour, Myers - None of these guys has a real shot at Hex roster. CM (4): Feilhaber, McCarty, O'Brien, Diskerud - Feilhaber needs his mojo back, O'Brien deserves a shot, Mix is tricks, McCarty is a guard dog. Wingers (4): Zusi, Shea, Pontius, DeLeon - Youth, flair and grit gets a chance. F (4): Agudelo, EJ, Cooper, Wondo - Three oldies, and one young gun. Miss the cut: Alejandro Bedoya (out of contract), Josh Gatt (still too young), Freddy Adu (Klinsi no like?), Luis Gil (still growing), Tony Cascio (ditto), Chris Rolfe (not better than competition), Beckerman (getting old), Jay DeMerit (oldest).
