They moved up to 2nd didn't they? http://www.stumptownfooty.com/2012/12/12/3760708/Allocation-order-Portland-trade So they still have TFC to deal with. TFC has ALL the leverage in this case. They can select Mix, and then apply the vice to the balls of the Timbers. How badly do they want Mix? Perhaps they can trade the top spot in the allocation order for a lifetime supply of Gorditas!!!
I read somewhere they made a deal with Toronto that they wouldn't take Diskerud. Maybe true or maybe not.
Portland traded with Chivas USA to move up to #2 in the allocation order. In the very same press release, they announced that they also traded Joe Bendik and the #3 SuperDraft pick to Toronto in exchange for Ryan Johnson and Milos Kocic. The assumption that people are making is that this deal also included a handshake agreement that Toronto would not select Diskerud if he came through the allocation process. If true, Portland is essentially #1 in the allocation order if Diskerud comes through, but #2 if anyone else comes through (which would be why Toronto didn't actually trade the top allocation spot.)
Perhaps the retarded allocation rule should be scrapped. It's absolutely ridiculous internationals from any other country, or any player from another country can sign with whomever they want, whether it's Becks, Keane, Boyd, Henry or Frings, yet ex or current US internationals have to go through this ridiculous process.
Phil Schoen @PhilSchoen Love MLS, but not the place for young creative players to grow. For his sake, I'd rather see Diskerud go to Germany or Portugal.
And I agree. A young, creative player in a subar tactical and technical league. They work against each other. A creative player, by the definition of what he is should ply his trade in an above average tactical and technical league if possible. It plays to the player's attributes. But hopefully it works out if that's what Mix decides. I do think it's quite a gamble though during key development years going from early to mid 20's. I also question how even doing very well in MLS will help him move on at 24 or 25. Many seem to think if he does well the offers will come. Well, then explain Zusi and Pontius to me who've played very well and yet I haven't heard a single, not one, rumor about a Euro club being interested in either. I worry what happens if it doesn't work out, as he might not be able to leave until a considerable offer comes in or his contract expires when he's 26.
Or maybe they simply didn't want to go. Playing in a 2nd rate team in Portugal or Denmark isn't the pinnacle of one's soccer career.
Theyd make way more than in MLS I guess. PLus they can be seen by much bigger teams. Davies went from college to a top5 league in 2.5 years despite a horrible debut season in a 3rd tier league like Sweden.
Because of all the different rumors, what you see below was "released" to some members of the press less than an hour ago. I know it is a little crazy to post the same information to all of you here at BigSoccer. However, I am a little bit crazy and I know that a lot of you are my virtual friends. So this is what you get for having given me valuable encouragement for so long time now: ************** Due to a number of inquiries from press and soccer fans yesterday and today regarding Mix, I have been asked to convey the following: Mix is on vacation in Arizona and California and does not want to speak directly to press before the holidays, or before an agreement is in place regarding what club he is entering into agreement with for 2013. Mix's current employer is Rosenborg BK. In his opinion - a great club -- with the best of long term European tradition. Caleb Porter has contacted Mix and asked him to consider joining him on his move to the Portland Timbers, if possible. Mr. Porter is a coach that Mix personally has had time to evaluate and rate. Mix believes in Mr. Porter's potential to build balanced teams along the modern - and in the opinion of Mix - most fun styles of play. Representatives of the league ownership in MLS including Portland - and Mix - has not at this point attempted to contractually bind each other. Mix does not need to consider his willingness to struggle for the principles that he knows Mr Porter brings to the game. Nor does Mix need to consider or have any doubt that "The Timbers Army" long has been setting the standard for how football/soccer should be enjoyed in the United States of America and Canada. Mix is somewhat unfamiliar with both MLS and the Portland Timbers organization and player pool, but is very honored that both have asked him to help along and promote the world's overall greatest/biggest sport in the country he has chosen to represent internationally. The short term goal of Mix is to be able to co-contribute in moving the USMNT further up the FIFA World Ranking Table. Mix does know, that until now, it has been uncommon for young players of European leagues, educated in European leagues, to go play professionally in USA and Canada early on in their careers. If Mix returns to Norway before New Year, he does so in order to play for Rosenborg specifically. Mix enjoys his life, is grateful for the positive experiences his chosen sport has given him, and wish as many as possible – a merry christmas. Paal Diskerud Player's Agent by demand.
Mix, I think you should be considerate of my Soccer viewing needs and go to MLS so I can watch you on a regular basis. Consider it a Christmas present.
If you can take anything from Porter's years at Akron, it's that he appears to be a great team builder. I would love if he makes it a prerogative to develop a team based off of young american talent.
Not sure if you can compare them now, Mix (if he commits) is just starting in MLS Zusi and Pontius have a few years in our league. I would hope that in 1-2 years Mix stock would be much higher than the two you stated.
As a bigsoccer YA lifer, I can't believe I missed the awesomeness of this thread. This is up there with Yank kid at Torino... Mix, best of luck with your career decision. If the US ever plays in Chattanooga or Nashville for that matter, Taco Roc in the stuff. I walked in and the place was filled with Mexicans, so I knew I was in for a treat.
Oh...............them's fightin' words!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mix, don't listen to this nonsense! In fact, what most Americans consider Mexican food...............is actually Tex-Mex!!!
Just a quick question for all you Eurosnobs. Who was the last 'creative' Midfielder who has developed in Europe? *crickets* And has the influx of young Americans going to Europe actually helped our World Ranking? No. We were as good if not better in 2002. Rosenberg has already shifted Mix into a more defensive role. And we all know that the USMNT lacks for Defensive Midfielders. If Mix can come to MLS and make more money than he can in Europe, I definitely think it would benefit him to come over. He can also stay at his natural position as an attacking mid and would basically be given the keys to run a team, something he will never get in Europe.
Hmm, let's see - Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Andrea Pirlo, Luca Modric, Mesut Özi, Eden Hazard, Tony Kroos, Mario Götze, Moussa Dembele and perhaps a few more. You list those developed by MLS.
http://www.yelp.com/biz/adalbertos-mexican-food-san-diego-2 The first place I go after I get off the plane in San Diego and the last place I go before I fly out. I've been going there for 17 years and Adalberto's is the best in the business.
