A 4 match suspension keeps him unavailable for Schalke until after the Honduras match, so I think Klinsmann may try to work out this type of arrangement again. To be more precise, Schalke have league matches on 12/15, 1/19, 1/26 and 2/1. Honduras in on 2/6, and as of now the first league match back for Jones would be Bayern Munich on 2/9.
Guess Jones enjoyed the 2012 Camp Strudel so much that he really wanted to come back for the 2013 edition. 2012's camp worked out well for Jones, as he was given the Captain's armband for those friendlies and also won a spot in Klinsi's starting central midfield for the rest of 2012.
I'm almost OK with starting Williams ahead of Jones @ Honduras. We need a little more discipline and defensive mindset, and Jones is known to roam about.
They Play different positions, funny how long this issue continues to go on here. Williams is a #6 Jones plays a #8 Now will follow a bunch of posts saying Jones should be a #6
The lineups in the October matches seem to be the ideal setup in a standard Klinsmann match, but away to Honduras Klinsmann seems likely to stay conservative. So I would expect a lineup like Jamaica away or Russia away where Jones would start.
IMHO, that was no redcard and I'm a Bayern fan . The refs in Bundesliga over the past weekend were all card happy. JJ might as well rent a house near the beach in Santa Monica (or move in with Klinsi!) for a few months and enjoy the break!
Funny how they are both center midfielders, and funny how Klinsmann apparently regards them as occupying the same role in some regard. Funny how he actually subbed one for another in the game against Antigua (Jones came on for Williams), indicating that they are positionally interchangeable to some regard.
That's a clown question, bro! Game day thread here ... https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/jones-vfb-stuttgart-vs-fc-schalke-04.1979403/ Jones' YA thread here ... https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...on-jones-back-and-schalke-n-r.1603129/page-35
Rumor is he called Jones up, told him needed to get a red, then afterwards called the German FA, called in some favors and successfully secured the 4 game suspension.
Some may not like Jones' physical play, but I think it's handy to have someone like that around when Nigel DeJong starts breaking legs. You need to have someone out there who is going to make opponents think twice about getting nasty.
Jones came in for Williams but not to play the "6" like Williams, Jones played like if he was another LM
Shockingly, and despite people's overreactions. This was his very first straight red. Glad to see he'll be around in January to give some experience and leadership. I'll never understand people's dislike for him. He's one of my favorites.
95% of the people who appear to not like him, i would bet actually like him a lot. The issue that I can see is that it has to do with Michael Bradley and the future captaincy and a starting spot in 2014 if the US develops a superstar level CM out of nowhere( pushing either Jones or Bradley out the starting lineup). Michel Bradley was on track to be the hands down captain for the next 2 world Cups. With Jones, Klinsmann has been demanding a more leadership role and Jones has responded well to it. As a response, as we can see with the home base soccer media, Jones is being isolated and ignored on an agenda ( ranked #16 best usa player by collection of them). Michael Bradley represents USsoccer in every way possible (grew up here, etc.) so your going to get a response from people that goes like this: they fear Jones will get what they want Bradley to have.
DFB throws book at 'serial offender' Jones http://www.socceramerica.com/article/49629/dfb-throws-book-at-serial-offender-jones.html
I really don't see it as a dilemma at all. It works out that he can train with the USA and play in a Friendly match. I think he will be ready for Honduras.
Exactly. It might affect his match sharpness a bit, but this makes Jones a clear, easy call-up for January Camp to mitigate that.
Appreciate the post, and I've thought about the contrast between Jones and Bradley. I'd say, I don't think MBradley reps Ussoccer in every way possible despite people's short term memory, he hardly earned his spot in the past. I'll be the first to admit he's one of, if not THEE, best player we have now. Jones earned his spot, even if it took so long. I do think people have quite a few subconscious fears with Jones but I'll hold my tongue on that and simply agree that they feel threatened that he, of all people, will get what they want Bradley to have.
