There is a report that Mix might be coming to Portal to play under coach Porter. Deal not done yet but looks to be a strong possibility.
I'm honestly never all that happy when a player signs on to play home games on an artificial surface. (But I'm all for Feilhaber going to SKC from NE.)
Whoa, Alaska checks in. My cousin was born in Ketchikan. What time do you have to get up to catch an EPL game on the weekend?
Indeed I read this thread first and then the Mix thread. I don't think it does too much for Diskerud's status with the national team frankly. It might give him a bit more visibility, and MLS is better than the Tippelaegan, but that's about it.
Yeah who knows, I'd like to feel if he's good enough he'd get called up but it doesn't always work like that. I read he had some interest with some Rapid Vienna. Clubs from the big leagues don't seem to be beating his door down, so as a career decision coming to the MLS and playing for a coach you have experience with may be good for him. He can still get that move to a Top 4/6 league eventually.
Turf and narrow field concerns me more than anything. Not that much of an improvement if he moves to MLS. Marginal at best.
I disagree that this is a marginal move. We have evidence of how Porter deploys Mix -- pretty well I think He will be "everywhere " on that small field in Portland If Porter finds a mobile forward with brains who can semi finish well Portland will improve a lot. Mix is a threat to Zusi on the pecking order IMHO as the more attacking center mid to complement Bradley and the dmid. In fact I think Mix and Bradley would outperform Bradley and jones by a lot. This is Mix's chance to prove it. He was never going to do it playing in Scandinavia
I think JK talked about how he watches players and sees how they'll head out for bigger and better things to show that hunger and never being satisfied. I think JK is going to be a bit disappointed by this move... Perhaps MLS is better than Tippelaegan, I wont bother speculating that one right now but I will say Tippelaegan players are more likely to move up to better leagues.
Do you have any data to back this up? We obviously can find the MLS data but I don't know of how many Tippelaegan players have moved to the top 6 leagues in Europe. I know the amount of Norwegian players in the EPL has dropped dramatically from the 90's. I wonder if there are more former MLS players in EPL today than former Tippelaegan? Off the top of my head, Cameron, Dempsey, Friedel, Edu, Howard, Guzan, and Nelson are all former MLS players in EPL. We lost Ream and Holden when Bolton went down last year. There are probably others I am forgetting.
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/tippeligaen/transferuebersicht/wettbewerb_NO1.html It's raw data but you can see people are moving around to different leagues this season included Championship, Bundesliga, A. Bundesliga, Superligaen (denmark), and some level clubs. It seems to me it's a shopping window league, much like Eredivise. I see those leagues are better for young careers.
Meh, MLS has stated that they don't want to be just a league that supplies bigger clubs. MLS standouts also don't always make it in bigger leagues and that's happened enough that bigger league clubs are cautious.
I also think he would complement him better. Mix turn will come when Dempsey retires from the national team.
The exceptions aren't the rule but I'd also be curious as to whether or not he'd be better if he stayed in Europe.
There's no way of knowing but Europe isn't always better. Plenty of players have become quality US national team players playing in MLS and if they are good they can make a move to a Premiership or Bundesliga team.
For Donovan it's not playing in MLS, it's staying home. This move would be an equivalent of Donovan playing in something like Belgium-Turkey leagues: neither a home league nor the top league he could get into.
