Cody was the man of the match in Southampton U21's 1-1 draw against ManU

He is the number 1 for this team

Do you think that he might get a chance with the first team soon? They don't have an established #1 right now, so playing time should really be up for grabs at this point.

Well I don't think we will get Brooks, but here's the best I can see for the team at this point in time.

    -------X
    Villareal--Gil--Joya
    ------X--X
    Ocegueda-X-Packwood--X
    -------Cropper

Those the only guys I feel comfortable will be on the team and likely starting. Packwood's availability would obviously be a question mark, but since he is only occasionally making the 18, I'm putting him in for now.

Southampton seems to be really like Gazzaniga who is only 20 so playing-time might be hard to come by... However, 'Hampton's keeper situation is still very much up in the air.

    Ocegueda unattached?

I'm guessing they still want Salgado to continue to rehab?

I don't even know what to say anymore. Tab Ramos has to be the single worst talent evaluator ever to be given a job of this magnitude. JAVAN TORRE DIDN'T EVEN START AT UCLA. HOW IS HE ONE OF THE SIX BEST U-20 DEFENDERS IN THE COUNTRY. HE ONLY PLAYED 12 GAMES. ;kjadskfja;dfjas;ljfas;kldfja;lskfds

Well you have an 18 year old who plays RB at CB so there's your first problem.

Are you saying that he is not good as a CB?

Torre was playing behind Matt Wiet, who will probably sign a HG deal with Columbus, and Joe Sofia, who'll be one of the best senior CB's in college next season. Torre will certainly start next season and probably sign a HG deal with the Galaxy a year form now. It's the point of camps, compare to other players in the pool. Javan also provides emergency backup at LB.

And let's remember, no Packwood, Cunningham, or Brooks.

    Sorto is a RB
    Stanko is a CB/DM
    Rodriguez is not a winger

I'm well aware of who he was behind and who is not in camp. Doesn't change the fact Torre should not be there. This is supposed to be a possession oriented team and three of the six defenders have zero ability with the ball at their feet.

I'm saying that picking a kid to play CB because you read his name after the Galaxy signed him is not how you put a team together.

So you have no idea if he is any good at that position or not?

Rodriguez can play well as a wide forward and Stanko has been used as a RB before.

The new names for this camp are Edwards, Sorto, Allen, and Madison.

It was easy to give Allen a look after the part he played in Georgetown's run to the College Cup final. Madison made the All-ACC Freshman team and started a bunch of games for Virginia, but only scored two goals.

Edwards was a regular CB starter for Maryland. He did not make the All ACC Freshman team, unlike his teammate Mikey Ambrose. Obviously, they play different positions, but we seem to have more CB depth than fullback depth on this U-20 team. Ramos seems allergic to calling up more than one or two actual fullbacks at a time.

I bet Sorto wouldn't have made this roster if he had been offered a HG contract in January instead of December. That doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve to be here, just that I think some of these roster decisions give too much weight to current club status and not enough to current player ability status.

Overall, going with a new MLS signing, two players from elite ACC programs, and a star player on the national runner-up isn't digging all that deep for emerging talent. Still, most of the professional and college incumbents seem to be progressing in their careers, so that's good.

There are a few negative trends with certain pro players that I think bear monitoring:

    * Mario Rodriguez doesn't seem to be actually playing for FCK on any level. He's not on their reserve team and he's never in the U19 lineups. Not sure what gives here.

    * Ocegueda zoomed through Tigres' system to the U20 level, but he's been stuck there for a few years and now he's apparently unattached. I always get nervous when a player seems to stall around this age.

I'm not unhappy with the roster all things considered -- just trying to play devil's advocate.

Not trying to be rude just asking, who would you of liked to have seen be called in? It sounds like most first choice defenders were unavailable and I'm not too familiar with the rest of the player pool.

When did Rodriguez play wide? Mario played CF all of the Marbella tournament. He doesn't have the speed to play wide or beat people off the dribble, and he's a big kid.

Just because Stanko might've played RB once sometime doesn't mean that's going to be his position. He strictly plays CB and DM for Freiburg, he's been starting at CB the past couple months for their U23's.

I think you're just freaking out a little over a week long camp over a player that likely won't be at qualifying. I'm not going to lose sleep over Javan Torre being at this camp when he's probably 8th at best on the depth chart at CB with a full roster.

I remember seeing Rodriguez do really well on the right side of the attack against Scotland's U21s. Him and Joya were dominating Scotland's wing backs.

Cuevas and Joya were on the wings, Rodriguez was CF
