    I think they're the take-down model

Like a lower quality version? Or an earlier/later version?

Lower quality....E.G. like the "Shoot" & "Strike" versions on the current lasers

I keep seeing posts around the internet suggesting that the T90 Laser range is going away, but I can't recall any sources or real reasons why. The CTR360 seems to have crowded the laser out of the spot light, but there still seems to be decent uptake from professionals. Can anyone in retail confirm that Laser sales are still competitive? Has Nike made any statements about going back down to three silos or will the Phantom Venom be an apples to oranges swap with the T90 Laser?

I'm not in retail or an insider, so take this with a grain of salt. In my adult league you see just about everything when it comes to boots. Basically all silos across all brands....except the Laser. I do know of one guy that wears the Laser, but it's the previous model. I've never seen the current model (or takedown) on anyone. I can't say that for any other boot on the market. I think they just aren't selling at all.

Where did you see this? I looked and couldn't find it. I have had both boots in my hand and to the touch it feels similar, but the EvoSpeed 3 feels a tad more plastic like. Mind you the EvoSpeed 3 I had in hand was the black and the V1.11s were the green and the white upper. The component that creates the black color might just be naturally less supple. I never touched the black V11.1 so I can't fully compare the color texture.

Also remember that the Vapor 8s are the same as their predecessor and there was a huge difference in how they felt...

Most retailers I know - managers and owners - say their worst seller is the Laser. Many smaller stores have not reordered colorways because they are sitting on the original white and orange -which to be fair wasn't awful looking and it felt pretty good on the foot. I hardly know of any local shops that reordered more colorways because the boot just sits. I know one place that did ok with the model in the first colorways - synthetic and Kangalite - then sold nothing until the Clash color way. As an aside I was told the Clash colorway had a shocking number of returns for durability issues.

Pre-injury and while coaching college I have seen a grand total of four Laser IV boots on the pitch. One two pairs were my own for testing which I passed on to teammates, one was on an opponent -red colorway - and the last was on a kid from an opposing college team - the black and orange monstrosity that came out post Euros.

The shoe suffers from a mix of issues. The fit is great if you have a very specific foot, otherwise it is awkward. The colors sucked for the most part aside from the Clash option and the release white. There is a minimal pro uptake and no name other than Rooney behind the boot. It doesn't have an identity or a purpose - I hate this part but it is reality; kids want category boots and while they say "power/striker" there isn't really anyone showing that in them as a player. You can get a better similar boot in the CTR - at least the II - and Nike brainwashed strikers into thinking they need a sub 8oz boot with the Vapor, then they try to push a heavier chunkier boot to the players they have been selling "speed" myths to for years. They have lost the plot with this shoe.

If they bag it for an "agility" boot the reason is because they bottled it with the "power" concept and they are running out of adjectives to try and sell false promises. Anyone that can't see they are just taking words that sound athletic and saying "here is the boot for that arbitrary term" is being had.

I think you missed the point. I realize the EvoSpeed 1 and the Vapor VIII changed uppers, most silos do - for better or worse - when new models come out. My point was that the V1.11 upper was pretty good and there is the claim that it more or less exists on the EvoSpeed 3 now. The jury is still out on that exactly.

The Vapor VIII upper is not the same as the Vapor VII. Teijin is the maker, not the material. They source the product and make tons of different textures/thicknesses and so on. When Teijinn is used as an all encompassing name for material it is a misnomer.

Genius marketing though!! You have to give them that! Years from now, people will just be in shock how Nike changed the game (for worst IMO :p).

All very good points. It's really become more of a defender's boot. Besides Rooney, the only others I can think of off the top of my head that wear it are Boca and Martin Skrtel (probably my favorite player, otherwise I'm sure I would have no idea what he wears). Actually, I'm pretty sure Geoff Cameron wears it, too. Another defender...

Funny to think, if the AZT came out today, it would no doubt be classified as a "control" boot as opposed to "power".

I could have quoted this entire post and just added one huge "+1" but this point, I think, is worth noting again. You Jon have your critics on this board which is fine and comes with the territory so to speak but you've hit out at someone who sticks up for you. You've got one post saying you are opinionated, stick to your guns, etc. and then rant about JC doing the exact same thing? Look I like hearing what you have to say. You are lucky to be in the position you are in where you can test out a wide range of boots and you're young so you bring a youthful view to the board. Everyone is going to have a difference of opinion on various boot subject matter but when talking about history and the quality over the duration of the years you have to understand that there are people who have been around "in the game" a lot longer than you and have seen and experienced a lot more. Thats not just from the review perspective but also the business end. Backing up your debate with personal experience, background knowledge, and facts is the way to "win" any argument. Its what JC does extremely well and makes any discussion with him interesting. All you have to do is keep your head and provide your points and see where it goes. If you "lose" you chalk it up to learning something new, which is never a bad thing.

I guess the T90 might be a dead man walking...I always felt it was a halfway decent boot but with an odd fit and lacing system and always seemed to be chasing the Predator, yelling me too! It just never seemed poised to knock off the Predator. The CTR is looking like the game changer for Nike. It's already forced adidas to market the Predator as a "control" boot and it looks like the CTR will take out Nike's own "power" boot. Maybe we'll see Torres in a bright white pair of CTR's to start next season.

Oh yea I forgot Torres wears them. He always seemed like more of a Vapor guy. Not sure why.

A good number of Man U players wear them: Scholes, Rio, Rafael, and I think both Smalling and Evans (did he switch from the Tiempos)?

A while back I returned my defected Maestri 2's to Nike and they sent me a pair of the kangalite laser iv in the Clash colourway which I really like- so simple yet so elegant. Especially compared to the other colourways coming out these days

I must say, these boots have to be one of, if not the most comfiest boots out on the market (imo its between them and the Umbro Speciali). The touch is exactly the same as on the Maestris, and the shoe is also much less bulkier, making it a lot more convenient if you're a dribbler. The rubber doesn't really do much, other than adding a little extra swerve and a smoother strike. Even so, I feel like it's still more beneficial than the rubber on the Maestris, which wasn't abrasive at all so I don't know how it would improve your "control".

Tbh, I really don't understand how lasers are so unpopular since I think they're on par with the Maestris. I guess Nike's really hit the jackpot with their style of "Control" marketing.

If they were lighter, I bet people would be talking about them as much as they did the adipowers. (Lightweight boots are totally overrated if you ask me, but adipowers were amazing.)

Torres is a future legend wearer ;) well he has done on a few occasions now so..

Its a shame with the lasers, when the AZT came out specially the III's when I had them I thought they were the best thing in the world. The fit was great, the weight was good, the studs were amazing, the upper was nikeskin wasn't it? great boots, with the simple 90 mins marketing.

After those I didn't wear any of the line till the laser III, Though I saw alot of sunday league players in laser I/II's, and I torres was on the scene in the k-II white/red which made me want a pair. I had the III launch colourway which was though the colour was horrid, the upper after being broken in was actually nice. The leather version's were ok... bit thick but not bad, I still have the white/summit ones in the loft.

After those I had the metallic blue IV which initially I liked, but the element on them for me made the fit odd, I could never get them tight, and the laces seemed too short? i didn't really like the kanga lite upper either, just didn't feel right. It would be a shame for the line to go, specially because of how it all started with the AZT.

But if the line is to go, what are the laser's roster going to wear? Can't see rooney in the venom(if it is the replacement) maybe the CTR but again you just can't seem him in another other then t90's

I had a pair of Total 90 iis's in white/red I think the leather version and I didn't find them comfy at all but the touch was really good mainly because the shoe was so massive it was hard to miss control the ball lol. I had adipures before then which were really low profile so it was sometimes hard to control the ball. In the ctrs now and they have a really nice gritty touch and the fit is top notch. Already got a little sole separation though -.-

more t90 wearers i don't think people have touched on are sturridge, essien, higuain, sahin and i don't think i saw giovinco or sneijder mentioned. But yeah it is a bit sad to see nike remove the laser for what is ultimately a pele trinity knock-off which will probably only sell because of neymar being the face behind it.

I don't think Nike can market and differentiate the Mercurial Vapor and the Phantom Venom. I can't see the two of them coexisting. Before the MV8's there was a rumor about rebranding the Mercurial line. I could see Nike taking this opportunity launch a new silo and install Neymar as the lead "face" behind their speed boot ahead of him moving to Europe, which seems a virtual certainty if he has any kind of world cup performance worth mentioning in Brazil. Nike's marketing team don't miss a beat and I'm sure they want a seamless transition from CR7 to Neymar.
