    I count 11-13 depending on how you count New Mexico.

    Machael David Midfielder UC Santa Barbara
    Danchrisandre Delgado Midfielder San Diego
    Ben Fisk Midfielder Washington
    Joe Franco Defender CSUN
    Ryan Hollingshead Midfielder UCLA
    Erik Hurtado Forward SCU
    Larry Jackson Goalkeeper SCU
    Korey Kindle Defender/Midfielder Bakersfield
    Fernando Monge Midfielder UCLA
    Devon Sandoval Forward New Mexico
    Blake Smith Midfielder/Forward New Mexico
    Dylan Tucker-Gangnes Defender Washington
    Emery Welshman Forward Oregon State

    Only 3 guys with NorCal ties, Hollingshead is from a town Ive never heard of up toward Fulsom Lake, and the two Santa Clara guys.

    You are right I hadn't seen them all as I was at work and just glanced at it. Glad to see the flip throw in guy Michael Harris flip throw in from UW isn't in there. I'm surprised Stanford's Adam Jahn isn't there but I guess he could always count on a token spot like Rafa Baca got...

    Wow, 30 players entering and each having to pay $100.00 to tryout. That is an easy way to make $3000.00 for what will be at most, a reserve team player.

    Wonder how many have been found out of any of these? I remember they found GK Tom Liner in 1996 inaugural season in one of these open tryouts but there were tons of players trying out and he had somewhat of a resume. The rest were crap and Paul Bravo told me Laurie Calloway told them all to leave after 10 minutes as he saw enough.

    I hope the present coaching staff and the FO have a better PR-sense than that. I would suppose that part of the reason for these tryouts is connecting with the community.

    Seems like the Quakes' trip to Az is changing. FC Tucson is now selling tickets to Quakes vs Houston scheduled on Tuesday 1/29 and Quakes vs Colorado Saturday 2/3

    It's pre-season. You have to assume some wiggling and changing in pre-season. The important bit is that the Quakes thought that the pre-season training in Tucson was good last season, so we should expect it to be worthwhile again this year.

    So who's coming up to Portlandia this pre-season?! Let's drink and root for our Quakes!!

    GO QUAKES!!

    Have we ever gotten any player from open tryouts? I remember (possibly incorrectly?) that a couple of guys from the Victory tried out for the Quakes in '08 at the open tryouts, and neither of them made the team. So, I'm thinking that this is a long-shot way to join the team.

    On the other hand, some of the guys at these tryouts are pros. We don't need that 'keeper, and he's probably too expensive, but there might be a defender or other field player who's from a pro team that fits. Maybe.

    GO QUAKES!!!

    OK, so to refresh the schedule, this is what we know so far.

    @Tucson
    Desert Friendlies:
    January 29th @ 3:00 PM SJ/Houston
    February 2nd @ 11:00 AM: San Jose/Colorado

    Feb. 6-10 – Ventura, Calif. at Oxnard Community College
    Games?

    @Portland
    Feb. 17 – %Earthquakes vs. Portland Timbers, 5 p.m. PT
    Feb. 20 – %Earthquakes vs. AIK (Sweden), 5 p.m. PT
    Feb. 23 – %Earthquakes vs. FC Dallas, 2:30 p.m. PT

    The club said that going to Tucson was really good last season, so I'm hoping that it's good again this season. Didn't they go to Oxnard last pre-season also? And didn't they play a friendly against some team there? Or am I hallucinating?

    GO QUAKES!!
