You know I've said my piece so often that it's insulting that you'd want me to repeat it. I'll say this. You're completely wrong and are blatantly misinterpreting to create more vitriol on the subject. Go back and properly read my posts please. To your surprise, I actually don't like talking on any subject if the responses will always be like this. What's the point if nobody wants to actually discuss a subject?
The other things that gets obscured in that analyst's numbers are runs off the ball, tackles and the number of goals. Shots vs. passes as a measure of involvement only measures whether the player lays off the ball to someone else. It doesn't track movement without the ball. And on a team like Bayern where the wingers create chances on the dribble rather than the pass it completely ignores the work of the players who do not have the ball. The links numbers are accurate, they just don't tell us much that is enlightening. It's certainly not a measure of involvement.
Claudio Pizarro averages about the same number of shots as Gomez with 15 more passes. Actually he is one of the rightmost on the graph
The graph gives really good insight. Despite what the writer says Lewandowski while is not that far away from Gomez(in terms of the graph) he certainly doesn't fall in the same category as the others. Mandzukic,Pizarro,Klose are all quite away from him. It's certainly funny how close Dzeko and Gomez are I agree that it doesn't tell the whole truth. But it measures active involvement quite good. An average heatmap analysis would have been gold
I gave them that heatmap analysis. They didn't like it, due to the fact it was from the DFB Pokal match against Dortmund.
i certainly don't mind winning games in the ugliest way possible; hence, my fav players are Oliver Kahn, Effenberg, Mattaius, Nedved, (you get the picture). My problem with Gomez come from the 2nd half of last season where he would go on wasting 10+ chances a game. This is what eventually took us away from all 3 possible titles. GOMEZ WASTING CHANCES while looking like a fool.
I could point it out, but I won't ... I'm not in a mood for this non-sense discussion ... Probably the most non-sense and stupid thread sinse I've joined BS (No offense to Matakos, who created it)... I'll just unfollow this thread and let the Haters and the Defenders battle on ...
Don't expect to get a reasonable response here so i would just drop it an seek discussion elsewhere, for your own sanity.
Note: Always run for the hills if the "trolls" don't share your elaborate and totally unbiased opinion. Never ever question yourself.
Totti was a false nine for a great deal of the time, I wouldn't classify a false nine as a midfielder, more like a playmaking forward than just another midfielder. Raul in his prime played up front for Madrid a lot of the time, he was later a support striker for Schalke, true, but I don't think it is acurrate to suggest that he was always a support stiker. Ibrahimovic is always, in my mind, a front-and-center striker, he may have been played on the wings a couple of times for Barca, but in a 4-4-2, he would never be a support striker, his tall and powerful frame would make certain of that. Robin Van Persie is, again, a up front and center striker, he displaced Rooney from that position in Man United, never played anywhere else for Arsenal to the best of my knowledge, and played there for the Netherlands for almost all his prime years. Suarez had Carroll for what, a year out of three years at Liverpool? Plus Lewandowski was played behind Barrios a few times as well, disproving your claim about "strikers first, at every point in their career". Your rebuttal is muddled when you look at the facts, which suggest a much less clear-cut distinction between the support strikers and the targetmen in the sample than you seem to make out.
If you could give us those statistics that show us those other measures of involvement like runs off the ball, tackles, etc. that supposedly reveal Gomez to be a extraordinary link-up forward that can participate in the build-up in a significent way, that goes wide, deep, etc., that would be more than welcome. I've given a heatmap in the other thread and a detailed analysis of forward involvement alongside a chart that compares Gomez with a bunch of other forwards. If you guys don't like what I've offered, that's fine, but the fact remains those that wish to defend Gomez from attacks of being one-dimensional, static, and not superb in link-up play have not offered contrary evidence, but rather prefer to poke holes in ours, scoff, and post memes like "the level of bull is too damn high", which, although funny, contribute nothing.
Wow! Real classy. It is non-sense and stupid to discuss a highly-charged controversial topic of a striker option of Germany and Bayern Munich? You post something extraordinarily vague and empty then refuse to elaborate? It seems almost as though you're trying to deliberately provoke people. I'm sorry, but there just seems to be no other point or explanation behind what you're doing there.
Totti till the late last decade was a 10. Attacking midfielder it was under Spalleti that he started the false 9 role. In the late 90's early 2000 he played behind Montella and Delvecchio later behind one striker Vucinic/Mido in 4-5-1. Its actually in the last 5 yrs that Totti started the false 9 role in his over 15yrs career. Raul started as a support striker to Moriente for Spain and For Madrid, later supported Ronaldo and later Nistelrooy. When he came to Schalke supported Huntelaar. RvP when he first started at Arsenal started on the wings and later was moved to the top position. Do you think RvP was top striker while Henry, Adebayor were in Arsenal? It was until Adebayors departure before he started leading the lines for Arsenal? If RvP always was striker for Holland then where was Nistelrooy playing till he retired? Zlatan at Ajax started uptop, Juventus supported Trezeguet in Juventus and in the early part of his Inter days supported Adriano before being converted to a top striker. Even in his early days for Sweden supported Larsson Lewandoski I am sure profitted from the injury to Barrios when he made himself a sure started for BvB. I am not sure who played behind who the few times they played together. But I am very sure it wasnt for long Suarez was a support striker and it still shows in his game for Uruguay supports Cavani for Pool supported Carrol till this season when carrol was sold I would suggest you check all the facts as well before you make the argument.
Gomez is still a POS. Look at his KICK AND MISS TODAY AGAINST BMG!!!. that was at least a shot on goal..laughable.
