Great move for both teams, regardless of how much allocation money we're actually getting in return (hopefully Ives can figure it out).

Allocation money is useless if you don't use it.

Benny Feilhaber was useless in New England.

So allocation money we could use next season, and draft picks for the future.

Well, at least we got more allocation money.

Seems Mike Marshall was right about this rumor.

Why can't we use the money this season?

This is the equivalent of of a NHL trade of a team trading a UFA/RFA a few days before free agency starts. Get something in return for a player you have no interest in bringing back.

I wonder if the Revs are picking up some of the salary this year.

That would make the trade suck even more.

I don't see why they would.

I don't think that's likely if they are sending allocation money our way.

I expect that Benny's agent negotiated a new (smaller) contract with KC.

Interesting that still, even with all the rabid player swapping in recent days, apparently NE still feels more comfortable with picks than players. We must trade for players less often than anyone in MLS!

From the long term view of things, this is a nice bit of business by the Revs. Essentially turning a #3 allocation pick into 2 years(almost) of service from a good player, 1st & 2nd round SuperDraft picks, and allocation money, albeit the picks and allocation are years later.
I like that our FO is keeping an eye on the future with the 2014 1st & 2015 2nd round SuperDraft picks. Especially the 2014 pick, as the 2014 draft class is suppossed to be stronger than this years(which we already have enough picks in anyways).
IMO, this is similar to the Leff L & Shalrie trades in that we are getting something in return for players we were going to let go anyways.

We got nothing useful for the immediate future. Benny wasn't the problem. The problem was most of our starting players suck.

Don't bring up the Larentowicz trade. There was no reason to let him walk in the first place...

Nguyen certainly had no problem contributing in the same situation.

If I were a rebuilding GM I would rather allocation $ and draft picks over players too. There is much more versatility in those rather than players.

“I am really excited to come to Sporting Kansas City,” Feilhaber said in a statement released by Sporting KC. “It is a top-class organization and team in Major League Soccer. My goal is to help the team however I can. I cannot wait to play in the best stadium in the League and in front of a great fan base. I am already hyped for the first home game.”

I don't remember, and don't feel like looking it up right now, but weren't you one of the people speculating that we had picked up some of SJ's salary? We got allocation money in that trade.

If you were expecting any player of significance I am shocked. I actually think they got more than I thought they would.

What the hell does that even mean? I'm just saying that Benny should have performed better, regardless of his surroundings. Other players, like Nguyen and Sene, made the best of a bad situation.

How is allocation money not useful in MLS' salary-capped system?
