After nearly getting suspended over the book in high school, I keep the book to myself. I'm actually not even a DC resident. I don't discriminate.
I just realized Bootsy Collins wanted to see a list of why I hate Tommy Wells and not the book of people I hate. The above is the primary reason I don't like Wells.
I loved the "spare for the occasional use of D.C. United games". I heard that FedEx field parking lot is only occasionally used by Redskins fans. And they play one third of the home games we do... Come on!
Well when D.C. United leaves it will be pretty awesome to have a park there, gotta admit pretty ugly area otherwise.
Ah, OK. I'm one of his constituents. I have a variety of reasons to like him and to dislike him. During the time period when Poplar Point was falling apart, he said some things to me about it that I knew were complete bullshit, and it really pissed me off. But in the end, my opinion of him is mostly favorable. His office has been fantastically responsive when it comes to constituent services. And his ethics history has been spotless -- in fact, about a year and a half ago it was noted that he was the *only* member of the DC Council that wasn't under any kind of Federal investigation for anything. And he's paid for it, too -- he was the driving force behind the investigation of Kwame Brown (when Brown was chairman) and the whole taxpayer-paid multiple Lincoln Navigators scandal; and Brown responded by pulling his committee chairmanship from him. But he stuck with it because it was the right thing to do. As an actual District resident, those kinds of issues are far more important to me than DCU's stadium, and his stance on them has gone a long way with me, and makes up for the things I disagree with him about.
Would city government even consider helping this along when there's even a remote chance they'd need the land for a new Skins stadium?
Is redevelopment into parkland even allowed under the charter that grants the use of the RFK land? Also, with the Lot 8 freeway entrance closing, how will people be exiting the parking lots if this somehow goes into effect next year? If RFK become a one-in, one-out venue like Nissan, it will weigh heavy on my decision to attend games. Thx, Jay!
Not as I understand it -- it would require an act of Congress. But so would all the NCPC plans for what would happen after RFK goes away, too. There will come a time when all these ideas are relevant. That time just isn't going to be anytime real soon.
because we have been told that we cant build a stadium in that spot because it is federal land and it would take an act of congress to do anything with that land... granted a stadium and a park are two different things... but thats why i scoff at it.
OK, that makes sense. I probably have a slightly different viewpoint as I live in the area and would therefore prefer a park (or some similar amenity) over un(der)used parking lots. The other thing is that I would see that park project as a temporary solution rather than something permanent, like a new stadium. I mean, I don't foresee anything official and permanent being built at that location for, at least, ten years, so may as well utilize the space somehow in the meantime.
Oh I agree that makes sense. But we're talking about Congress here. An organization whose primary job is to make laws and pass a budget, and have failed pretty poorly at doing both for several years.
Other than the holes in the possibility of the park being built as it is, the plan doesn't factor in Lot 7 currently being used for events and RFK parking.
Maybe they'll offload this to staffers who will actually get it done? I guess as long as the proposal for whatever does not include alteration in any way of the structure bearing RFK's name, it shouldn't be that problematic, should it? Oh, and not asking for money also helps, I hear...
1. I was scrolling through the TIFO thread in the MLS General forum when I came across Q's comment. I had been thinking the same exact thing! 2. This is something to get behind in the quite of the off season, and I only wish I could have been thinking that before I read it. +1000 Q*bert Jones III!
When that sunny day comes where there actually is a stadium, I'm still planning on there being a massive push to have that stadium include the Javier Solares Stand. Lots of people have said they like this idea; but I can see it easily forgotten between now and then. So you fsckers better be willing to push too!
