Henry wants Coop out. It's his team so Coop leaves. But where? Base $275k 18 goals. I'd say it's a no brainer and a team should pay at least twice that for a guy that has hit 18 twice.
Too many fans and owners think about style before raw production.
Sadly, my gut tells me FCD won't even consider it.

I think signing him would bring us two things we need. Fan excitement and, more importantly, a striker.

I agree. Cooper, Perez and DF10 playing tap tap in the penalty area would be exciting.

Haven't really kept up with the story, does Henry really not like Cooper?

Yup, according NYRB fans. Perhaps not surprisingly, Henry gets frustrated that Kenny is not making the runs into the box that one might expect from a guy who's 6'3'' and built like a brick shithouse.

I agree. Hell, if we all agree on something, we can't be wrong.

    Huh.

I have this vague feeling that I've heard that story before.

I wonder if, with Perez, his tendencies which everyone falls to issue with might be the perfect fit for a two striker combination.

Oh, for the right price I think he's a great, all-star-caliber MLS player. You just have to accept that he has Fabian Castillo's brain in Brian McBride's body.

Now, his finishing is much better than Castillo's, and if we were to truly embrace the idea of a ginormous off-striker who is as good as he will ever be and will cost you at least as many goals due to not being in the box as he brings you by having better-than-MLS-average finishing, then you can settle on a valuation and try to bring him in.

If you think he's going to "put it all together" or "get to the next level" at this point in his career, then you're just going to be infuriated, like Henry is/was. I also don't think there's (m)any more transfer dollars to be had from having him on the roster. Kenny is what he is, and frankly he got there a lot sooner than many of us (including me) thought.

I wish he had never left. I would have him signed, sealed and delivered by now.

Best Xmas present an FC Dallas can reasonably hope for - a proven MLS goalscorer. The prodigal son returns. FCD FO could sell this all day.

It makes too much sense. I swear - if we do no nothing and he ends up in Houston I will shave my FCD tattoo off with a cheese grater.

I thought the story was either he or Le Toux had to go, and Le Toux is now gone to Philly. Plus doesn't his contract bump up big this year, I thought that was mentioned in a few post season stories.

I said this in another thread, as long as the club knows what they are getting in him as a player, and accepts he isn't what they wish he was, ie target fwd, then go get him. But if you are going to bang a drum saying get your ass in the box, then don't waste the time, money, or energy on this.

unless we are going 4-4-2, i just dont see where he fits on this team. even then, i am not sure i would want him as my second striker as he is neither fast enough (think walcott) nor as capable with the ball as i'd like from that position (think dempsey). while he is a proven scorer, you never know where on the pitch his kid is going to turn up. to most of us, its scoring and hustle and awesome and fan-fave type stuff. to his teammates, its probably more wtf and get out of my way and why arent you crashing the box when youre a forward. the question becomes...does he score goals to the benefit or detriment of his team?

This is pure lunacy. How is scoring 18 goals in a season a detriment to the team? Seriously? You want a detriment to the team - how about Sealy? A forward who does not score goals is a detriment to the team. We have had plenty of those since Ruiz and Cooper left.

    I agree with Northside.

All he does is SCORE goals. What the hell is wrong with that?

Rasheed Wallace was 6'11" and used to score a lot of points shooting 3-pointers...yet he was hardly inside to use his height in the low post to score or get on the offensive glass. He pretty much did what he wanted and the fans loved to see a big man who could shoot the 3, even if they didn't consider that he could be making a ton of higher-percentage shots instead and help him team, you know, WIN.

This team is built around DF10 creating and finding players who get in position to create opportunities (wide players like Brek, Jax or Castillo) or score inside the box (strikers like Perez)...KCJr is neither of these.

I like the guy, but if he is so awesome and 18 goals are so important, why has he bounced around MLS like a ping-pong ball?

Does Henry want Cooper out because he doesn't create assists? That's one thing that has been glaringly obvious about his MLS career.

There is such a thing as a player who can get his scoring output and not help his team's overall scoring. If Cooper were to get his 18 goals and the team's total scoring drops, would he not be a detriment to the team?

I'm not saying that this would be the case, but it happens enough in soccer and hockey and basketball that it's not quite lunacy.

Playing for three different MLS teams is hardly bouncing around the league like a ping-pong ball. Now, Maicon Santos, that's a ping-pong ball.

And it seems like the big knock on Kenny and his goal scoring total this year was that they were all tap ins created by Henry. But you say Kenny doesn't score inside the box? If this team is built around Ferreira creating and finding players to score inside the box, based off of what Kenny did last year, why can't he be that player that finishes off David's chances? He finished off Henry's.

Look, I'm not a Cooper fan boy or anything, but I think people are selling him a little short this year. I would be more than happy to take him off New York's hands.

I think SH has stated before that he thinks highly of Cooper. It's probably more of an issue of money and contract than want at this point. I'm sure Cooper would love to play here again (right? ).

I see your point - and maybe that would be the case if he was scoring 4-8 goals a season. But 18? That is an awesome rate and far superior to anything we have had since he left. There is just no way adding Kenny Cooper to this team makes us worse.

Well sure there is. If signing/trading for him takes up the majority of the remaining cap space and the rest of the roster suffers. That makes the team worse.

Speaking of "you can't go back home", whatever happened to Ramon Nunez? I thought he was on the rise in British football until he messed up his knee. I figured that he and SH would eventually find a way to work together again. A mature Nunez could be a positive around here.

Standard FCD negotiation practice. "insert any veteran (coming off a good season usually)" " We really like you and we want you on board but you have to take a pay cut"
