Mystery Spanish player from the regional segunda connection with Fire , Dailos Tejera MF -http://www.laprovincia.es/deportes/2012/11/24/sueno-americano-dailos-tejera/499216.html He has been to Chicago, watched the Fire-Gals game at Toyota park. His Facebook page has a pic of the Jordan statue and he is friends with Alex.
EDIT; Further digging reveals he plays Left Mid- Also from the above article it states he "departs" in Febuary and then gives the dates of the MLS season. He also states that their is one beauracratic hurdle for it to be finalized. It may be that the Fire is bringing him in on trial in preseason.
actually more like 4th division But with that said; I think youre looking at a young guy who may have some promise that will be seeing Reserve time. Its tough if they waste a International slot on a bench player, but sometimes thats the ropes. Personally i dont think its a bad thing depending on the country to target 2nd division type players.Thats really about the level of play and pay MLS is at. For a LM or CM that is in non-DP range and looks to be coming availible one could look at Michael Tonge. He's currently on loan to Leeds (from Stoke) , that ends next week.I really dont see why a team like the Fire couldnt take him on loan till the summer transfer as a trial and then if he works out (which im sure he would) offer him a contract. He's a solid nPower Championship level player.BTW; It was his goal that led to the recent pitch invasion that led to the Leeds fan punching the Sheffield keeper
So we waved Gargan. Correct me if I'm wrong but Gargan was essentially our backup RB, our backup LB and, because Anibaba is our backup CB, if either CB is injured Gargan would play RB. He played a lot of minutes last year. He did a fine job. He's not making much money at all. He's not taking up an international slot. He works his butt off. Can anyone explain why they don't think this is a bad move?
And to go along with that, as you said we payed a transfer fee for this guy, who his hold up play is great but we need goals, and before he came here, his success wasn't that great. I know I'm beating a dead tune as our whole fan base is getting tired of this stuff but I want our owners to sell to someone who cares about this team!
Here is a name to consider to fill the void left by Gibbs retiring. Gale Agbossoumonde. Man, what happened to that guy? I think Traffic is killing his career. At 18 he was considered the next Onyewu and got a NT cap as a teen despite not even really having a club. He bounced around everywhere and last year placed for Carolina (also a Traffic club). Because he got a cap I think he'd need to go through the allocation process unless we paid a fee. He can't make very much playing in D2. I think Gibbs was making 150k a year, how about 100k to Traffic and put him on 50k a year and have him play a year under Friedrich before he retires and then have him and Berry be the future CBs. Both young, NT prospects, and would both be on very affordable wages. To be honest I haven't seen him much but going from reports and his age and situation I think the Fire should take a look and offer him at least a trial with an option to buy.
KWS > AgBoss. There is a reason this dude could not hack it in lower Scandinavian leagues. He may be good for depth, but he would be behind Anibaba and probably Jumper.
While his goal production should have been better I do not have a problem with the FO spending money on a player who makes Chicago better and there is no arguing we became quite a bit better when Mac started playing Now lets bring in a goal scoring DP and remove one of our dmids and we will have quite a good side
He went to Carolina becaause he didnt want to be in the weighted lottery, and he has been on record saying if he plays in MLS its for NY or none.
I assume that Jumper (at LB) or Walls (at RB) are expected to become back up quality. Either Anibaba will continue to be our RB, or we will bring someone in. I'd prefer the latter, even if Gargan works his butt off, I just don't think he's that good I thought that Anibaba was getting much better at RB, slightly helped by the fact that Nyarko seemed to be doing a lot more defensive back tracking as well. His defense is still mistake prone, but his going forward, I thought was improving. I was never on the Gargan bandwagon. whenever I saw him, I thought he was terrible going forward, and for me, that's the most important part of a fullback. They can be a bit spotty at the back, if they are strong going forward, interchange well with the midfielder ahead of them, and can pick out good crosses. Its also possible that he is simply out of contract. It seems that at least some people think he signed to a three year contract with Toronto in 2010, so if we just bought the contract, it'd be coming up. Possibly we just couldn't come to an agreement for a new one.
24 year old Anibaba a has shown some FB qualities that Gargan at 29 doesn't have like mediocre crossing and a big shot. He's in Spain right now learning soccer stuff so he should be ready at his age to be a quality FB in this league. Could always look at Frank Simek too.
Neither anibaba nor gargan are the answer at fb.the Fire need to bring in someone who has the ability to play a wingback type role. I'm not saying they should play that type of formation , but With talent they have , someone who can effectivley play Wingback would be a huge benefit.
Oh and I agree, he made us significantly better, his hold up play is outstanding but I first questioned the move when we first paid a transfer fee for this guy when we needed that goal scoring player to begin with. Still can't believe we have that other guy has DP to....worthless, we need true goal scorer.
I believe most were questioning about this move. I personally was willing to give him a chance but ultimately we paid the fee for a guy who struggled to score abroad. But he turned out to be what we needed to improve as a team. The other DP(s) were as suspect but clearly failed. I hope we learned our lesson on those. And i agree we need a goal scorer. Personally i am hoping Mac picks it up next season because he was quite close to putting another handful or more away
Not saying either is a Wondo-type 20+ goal scorer, but I think that MacDonald and Rolfe are good enough to be the answer. Based on goals per 90 minutes, they were our top two scorers, and if they were both given every minute of all 34 games, Rolfe would have had 14 and MacDonald 12. Both of those would have been good enough for top 10 scorers this season. And with a full offseason with the team, both should be even better. Keep in mind that MacDonald hadn't played a match in 4 months when he made the move. It took him a long time to gain any real kind of match fitness Our bigger problem is with the people feeding them. Flaco was no good, Nyarko needs to improve his crosses (and his shooting). And we need a one man D-mid power house so the other half of the 2 can be more of a deep lying playmaker and just play passes around the field. I dont mind the 4-2-3-1 we play. But we are lacking the right players for the midfield pair right now.
I've consistently been disappointed with Anibaba going foward. He seems to always be moving forward about 3 seconds later than when he should be, just starting to make a run when he should already be overlapping. I'm also pretty sure you can count the number of quality crosses he provided on one hand. I hope that's it and not that we thought he wasn't worth 80k, because he's worth that money even if he's just insurance for an injured or suspended defender (which we are guaranteed to have).
I knew Gargan would be gone after this season when Frank refused to give him minutes in the second half of the season and kept starting Anibaba at RB despite Jalil giving away goals like he was feckin' Santa Claus. If Frank had had the brains to stop the Anibaba-at-RB experiment after Jalil personally gave DCU two goals, we'd probably have finished in 1st or 2nd place in the East. I can only guess that Dan kicked Frank's dog or wore a "Greece sucks" t-shirt to practice one day. Now we have no starting RB and no backup. That's stupid. They'd better have reason to believe that Kinney will be a) still a superstar and b) hella durable.
