I stand corrected - Benny is not a re-entry prospect. He is apparently free to trade his rights to any other MLS team or go to Europe. Thoughts?

Even without Benny, I would love to nab Avila. Imagine the goal celebration: "AVILLLLLLLLAAAAAAAA!!"...

...And then 3 years later we sell him to Aston Villa for quadruple the money. Sound good? :ROFLMAO:

Kaka left on the bench yet again in Real Madrid's close game today. The lack of playing time for him must be really upsetting.
A January transfer is looking more and more favorable...but the question is to who...?
I just don't think he's ready to leave Europe for MLS. WC 2014 is too important to him. But I think working out some kind of loan could solve that problem.

I'm sure getting relegated and playing in the Championship next year is exactly what Captain Keane-o wants to do this summer.

The Redknapp links are inevitable but would Keane even want to go?

I don't think they had a bad relationship but he wasn't one of 'Arry's man crushes like Crouch, Defoe or Parker. Spent a lot of time on the bench when he was the boss.

Erick Avila, midfielder originally from San Diego. I think he tries to go to the xolos of Tj or la will have leverage
in negotiations since they offer Avila the chance to play for the champions and return home.

"Carlo to LA Galaxy is a possibility."

He's behind Freidel but he's actually seems to be favored over Gomes, plays domestic cup matches. Much better than Saunders to say the least. If true I think it would be a good signing, I can see Carlo taking a non-dp contract and being happy. If you check his twitter he's a pretty big American sports fan, he's a team player, really positive guy.

He follows the Galaxy twitter feed.

I wouldn't mind this signing. He is getting pretty old (even for a GK) though. He's 39 already...plus he takes up another international roster spot.

Every team has 8 international roster spots. We had 7 last year since we traded one to Philly for Kyle Nakazawa+draft pick. But we have that back now since I think it was only till the end of the season.

With Beckham and Wilhelmsson gone, we have 3 open spots. The rest are filled by Keat (will we cut him...?), Juni, Leonardo, Lopes (I hope we get rid of him...), and Sarvas.

So assuming we sign this GK and don't get rid of any of the current internationals, we'd have 2 left. Our next DP will very likely take up another. So that leaves us with one...maybe to use for another sort of Wilhelmsson-esque deal.

Just as a side note...i just realized that NY had 11 international spots last season and used them all. VAN also had 11 and used 9. RSL has the least active international players with 2 (out of the 6 spots they have).

Also, we are the only team without foregin-born players with domestic status (from Wikipedia)...not that that really means anything

Maybe Chivas USA isn't as stupid as we thought (who are we kidding? they are) and want to keep Dan Kennedy? If we don't see Saunders as a starter, I'd rather us promote Kennedy to the pros and save him from that turd of an organization.

Since we have a mutual respect with real madrid we should ask if their keepers adan or rodriguez are content warming the bench 99.9% of the season behind the eternal casillas. A loan deal for the year would be nice, Man I would like to see even pinto from barca actually play a season. What goes on their heads to be content with tebow-like roles is amazing. I would want to play no matter what but that's just me spending 5 yrs in a #2 role is not what a competitor settles for.

Because I believe Chivas USA IS that stupid, I fully expect Kennedy to be the new GK for LA in the next few weeks.
The only logical thing is if Galaxy trades a int'l slot to CUSA for him, which they won't. My bet is they send the rights to Beckham to CUSA for Kennedy...

Saunders has won back to back cups and displaced Ricketts, who was setting MLS records in goalkeeping and yet we wanna replace him? In my opinion, Saunders is a top 5 keeper in the MLS.

I think it's time we replace him. He seems too shaky at times, and with a backline that will most likely be in a transition, we'll need better stability between the sticks.
Would love to see us nab Kennedy, but I don't see how it would happen.

He didn't 'displace' Ricketts. That infers that he bumped DR from the starting lineup on merit, etc.

Injuries kept Ricketts out of the lineup and Saunders filled in adequately.

Saunders had an off year, but he got the job done. He was solid the year before. Most of the difference was Omar, I guess. If we have to spend all of our money on a good defense, I think putting it into the field players makes sense, rather than paying a lot to a top goalkeeper. But if Omar goes, and we can't replace Omar with anything other than a rookie, for instance, or a Lopes, then we better get a great keeper.

Saunders played really well in 2011. 2012 not so much. Was pretty shaky all year. In totally, he's had 1 stellar year, and the rest of his career hasn't looked the same as 2011 did. 2011 may be the abberation, not the rule. I am not sure you just jettison him, but if someone significantly was available for a good price, I think it would help the team.

    Saunders is not that good.

Makes bad decisions on crosses into the box
Leaks goals close to his body
    Poor distribution
    Doesn't command his area
68% save percentage - For players on good teams playing 2000 or more minutes 70% save percentage is usually top bracket and over 75% is elite. You have good keepers with save percentage lower than 70% but they typically on bad teams.

The fact we won a cup with him this season is stunning. Every time a ball was played to his area I was sh-tting bricks. I think it effected confidence of the back 4, which is a big deal in a solid defense.

I've gotten a chance to see Josh up close since he is the GK coach for my son's club. He's a great guy and he really cares about the kids he coaches. He's also huge, which separates him from someone like Perk who has physical limitations in coming out for balls on crosses. Keep in mind, however, he spent a significant amount of time in a treatment facility for substance abuse and behavioral problems. I'm pretty sure it wasn't drugs and alcohol, but something like depression or anxiety, but regardless, that makes the question of his availability uncertain. There's always the chance of a relapse in something like this. The Galaxy really have to at least consider alternative options in this scenario, quite apart from his performance on the field this year and his salary cap number.

I don't see anything about this anywhere else...

Carlo is class and I would take him in a heartbeat but I really wonder if he would settle for less than 300K a year and I wonder if we have that sorta money anyway since we have been VERY cheap on the GK dept after Ricketts left and i'm sure we will keep money open for a DP coming in whenever it happens

Yeah, that got his year off to a bad start and he never really completely came back from those weeks off, I felt. He is definitely better than Perk, in my opinion, and in 2011 he was probably in the top 5 keepers in the league. So I think you keep your options open, you don't do anything rash, but if the right player is available for the right price, you have to upgrade such an important position.
