Chalk me up in the "no thanks" crowd in the first round. A guy I would might consider as a fourth striker in round two, at a low salary, would be JPA.

There isn't anyone on there that I think RSL should go after in the first phase.
In the second phase, however, I'd really like us to make an effort to get Avila (should he still be available).

Outside him, there is nobody on that list that screams "hey, take me seriously"

That's what happens when you clown around for a season. No one takes you seriously. :ROFLMAO:

He played for River Plate, though. That shows a serious lack of intelligence :D hehe

What about Jean Alexandre or Jay Nolly? ;)

Maicon Santos might be a good pickup for that 3rd striker slot. He's been a pretty consistent (if unspectacular) scorer...about 1 goal per 4 games. Better than Paulo, and he's not too expensive.

A solid value pickup in the 3rd forward slot would presumably let RSL go for a high flying midfielder (which I think we need too). I like your thinking.

$113,833.33 was his guaranteed compensation last year.
I'm not sure I would like us spending 120K on a third string striker.

If we could convince him to take under or at 100K, it could work out. I liked what I saw of him at DC

It's all academic now: Chicago takes Maicon Santos. RSL passes. Paulo and Reynish were not selected.

It's an intersting move for Chicago. They now have like 5-6 strikers on their team. Sherjill MacDonald, Dominic Oduro, Patrick Nyarko, Chris Rolfe and Kellen Gulley were already on the roster.

Think we could make a move to get Oduro or Nyarko? They both remind me of Findley a ton, especially Oduro. The right coach/system could benefit him greatly

I would think you could snag one of those players. I don't see a team being 6 deep in a position without either getting rid of a couple of guys via trade, or really hampering their depth somewhere else.

Please. For what? Being a knucklehead on national TV and apologizing? He is a decent player and could provide some decent depth in the midfield.

But RSL must agree with you in some form, they and all other MLS teams passed on him... and the other 50 MLS players minus Mr "Played for every MLS team" Santos.

With so so many quality soccer players available throughout South America and the relative strength of the MLS, I really do hope RSL puts its energy into bringing some quality fresh new talent into Salt Lake City and MLS. Hard to argue with the success RSL has had with players like Morales, Olave, Espindola.

However I would say RSL has been more successful since that South America 2007-2008 scouting trip with MLS players (minus Saborio, but he cost DP money that I doubt RSL will do for 2013). With that said, I don't want any forwards from the re-entry draft except for maybe depth.

It's still a big gamble. A good player in one league, might be complete crap in another. Add in the non soccer factors such as language/culture barriers, being away from family/friends, it's no guarantee that a great looking guy from another league will do better than an average MLS player that has been around a few years. Wasn't it Mantilla that was pretty promising but didn't last because he was homesick? I know it was the 3rd in the trio of Morales, Espindola, and the other we brought in.

Whoever they find I hope they pan out at least.

Nyarko and Rolfe are listed as forwards but dont play there.Rolfe is utilized in an Attacking Mid role, while Nyarko is used on either flank in the mid (usually right). No way Chicago is trading either of them. The Fire have been using MacDonald in a lone hold up striker role, which he excels at due to his physicality.Maicon looks like he can also play this role and Kellen Gulley has played this at the lower ranks and he is young and getting stronger by the day.I would guess the Chicago depth chart is like this 1. Mackie 2.Maicon 3. Gulley at striker and at AM 1.Rolfe2.Alex 3. paladini .They also had Guillermo Franco the last few games who can fit into either role, no word if he is returning.

That pretty much leaves Oduro out, he doesnt have the tools to play either role. And doesnt have the set up or crossing skills to play on the wings .He is a second speedy striker, and the Fire really are not built for that . I would guess the Fire would trade Dom for depth at R or LM or RB.If he got in the right sytem he could shine, 2011 was an example of that.Problem is that defenses figured him out and he was all the Fire had in attack.

I don't know what offers have been made, but it wouldn't surprise me if RSL went into near DP territory for someone. Let's walk through the math: They've got roughly $600k to play with. Set aside $100k to pay a couple of draft picks. Set aside another $100k to pick up a 3rd forward. That leaves $400k to spend on a starting forward.

So yeah, I could see a forward costing DP money next year.

600k? 1.6 mil? so much fun keeping up with MLS numbers, did you calculate in new salary cap numbers? How about allocation money? Minimum players on roster? To be honest this part of MLS really does sucks. I really do like the idea of a DP striker, but it really does seem like no one knows what kind of money RSL has to spend? I would be willing to bet Kries hasno idea!

Well, a number thrown around is that RSL was about 500k over the cap for the coming year. The Espindola and Olave trade gets us there. Gil is coming off GA status and will likely cost just as much as Will Johnson who was just traded. Then there's allocation and contract renegotiation with Javi.

Many league contracts have a mandatory 5-10% increase per year, but I think that the 500k over the cap number already accounts for that. A renegotiated contract with Javi might be what covers the 5-10% increases for the rest of the team, but maybe not.

Basically, whatever allocation (Al O'Cajun, hehe) we got from those three players is what we have to "play with." That is the rumored 600k.

Sorry, but to me, calling a child a ************ isn't just "being a knucklehead". It's disgusting.

I think RSL has been pretty clear about the fact that they want players who are good guys. Someone who uses homophobic slurs against a ball boy isn't a "good guy", in my opinion.

Lets hold up a sec before we call this guy the devil for words he said in 2 seconds of a heated game.
Do I think what he said was absolutely horrible? Of course.
Do I think he sincerely apologized? Yes, I really do. It didn't feel like you're "I'm sorry I got caught... er did it" routine, either.

Also, saying RSL only signs "nice guys" is naive. We want to sign good people, no doubt, but having some flaws (like Sabo's personality or lack thereof, for instance) isn't going to kill the guys chances. Kyle's language on the pitch would make a sailor cringe. He doesn't use homophobic or racial slurs (that I know of) but he certainly isn't out there "being a nice guy".

If the worst thing you can come up with is that he said something once - and nothing about how he plays soccer, then he is worth a consideration. I thought he completely destroyed our reserves in the game we played against them to end the reserve season. We were dominating the match (for the most part) until he came on. He made our midfield and defense look silly on multiple occasions.

I never called him a devil, I just think that he's a homophobic idiot and that I'd pass. I don't really care for this "heat of the moment" excuse, you don't use a word like that unless it's in your vocabulary.

Anyway, I don't want to argue about it. It's just something that tarnished his reputation in my mind, and I'd rather not have a player like that on our team, regardless of ability.

jessyca is just putting value in something that most sports-tards don't care much about.

Personally, a lot of the reason I don't like basketball and football, and most high-profile sports leagues are for the same reasons. I don't like supporting sports that reward people for being stupid and only good at one thing. I like having guys like Nat Borchers to root for, and not John Terry.
