He was a Beast when he was with Atletico Madrid but started to decline when he moved to Inter Milan.

 

Forlan had the unreal run in 2009-2010 (and 2011 Copa) with Atletico and Uruguay. Atletico was smart and knew it was the end of his prime and sold him and Aguero, then purchased Falcao from Porto and they still profited. And will profit even more as Falcao leads them back to the CL and they eventually sell him for one of the highest transfer fees ever.

It could be hard getting some bigger name players that play in Brazil. That league is paying extremely well right now thanks to the surging Brazilian economy, and will have even more money once these new stadiums start opening in the next year for the WC.

 

I think this means that heading into next season, Keane and Buddle are probably the two up top with Donovan (if he returns) at RM, to start the season. Which means we'll probably see David's DP spot replacement at CM. I just hope this doesn't mean we have watch Jimenez at RM again, good thing we're signing Oscar Sorto to back-up RB so we don't have to suffer through Jimenez getting torched at that spot next season.

a) Omar is planning on prioritizing the national team in January. It's been a dream of his, looks like he's going to get it.
b) Omar is most likely with us through the opening of the season, but may be gone as of the summer if we want any money for him. This is great news for CCL.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding... I thought Omar was under contract to the Galaxy through next year, in which case "no deal" means that he stays here for another year?

 

"No deal" for Omar means they can't come to an extension agreement with him and no other club has presented an acceptable transfer offer for him at this point. My guess is that if Omar doesn't get a transfer offer in January -- and it is somewhat more difficult for a central defender to be purchased mid-season for a good situation with playing time immediately available because they are harder to integrate to an established back line -- then there will be pressure to sell him in the summer window. That is a better time for a central defender to move (since they can start the season with a team) and it would allow MLS to get something in return for him.

 

The only replacement for Landon that I would want outside of Clint Dempsey is either Michael Owen or Wesley Sneijder. Both can go from striker to midfielder and like LD, both are Super Beasts.

 

I'm starting to think that Omar isn't going to get any Euro offers until he plays a couple National Team games and shows really well. The way Bruce keeps saying he still isnt 100% since the accident is probably just enough to keep those iffy teams that would have gave him a shot away despite winning the MVP in this title game.

 

Matt Besler is getting looks by EPL clubs (QPR and Southampton) and he doesn't have quite the resume (or physical tools) as Omar, despite winning MLS DPOY this season. I think clubs are well aware of Omar's progress.

Selling him in the summer becomes trickier because his transfer fee will likely be higher in January since he would just have 6 months left on his contract. He can sign a pre-contract in the summer and walk away on a free in the winter (with a better club options to choose from). We would lose up to $650,000 in allocation money if Omar walked away for free.

I would expect MLS to want nothing less than the $2.7 million they got for Geoff Cameron, and maybe more since Omar is 3 years younger than Geoff.

We're not even in the official silly season yet, expect tons of rumors to start circulating after New Year's.

Unless the new team is desperate for a quality CB NOW summer makes more sense. It would bring him in fully fit, in mid-season form, and ready to start a new season with his new team.

 

You see more desperate/urgent moves in the winter. Especially in the EPL with the lower table teams, and will be even moreso now with the mammoth EPL tv contracts that start next season. Will be a difference of $100+ million between staying up and getting relegated.

I think clubs like Aston Villa and Fulham could use someone like Omar now. There could be issues about getting a UK Work Permit, but it's been getting easier and easier for Americans to obtain one without having the requirements laid out.

 

Yes but time and time again midseason desperate moves, especially for defenders dont really work out and it puts immense pressure on the guy coming in. Bringing in a young CB that is unproven in the Premier league, where the attacking quality coming up against him is light years on what he is used to is just stupid. Omar needs a preseason and time with his new team

I think this technically can mean that either the player reached agreement with his current team on a revised contract or the player has decided he would prefer to retire or leave MLS than go to another team. In Perk's case, I'm guessing he has reached agreement on a lower contract number. Nakazawa is a harder case. Assuming he's not giving up the game (and I suppose if those back spasms were indication of a really serious back problem, that might be the case), then you could see him being more useful with Beckham out of the picture. His best quality is his ability to deliver set piece balls and his best position is in the center of the field. Both become more available now and they might want insurance in case Juninho leaves (indeed, we traded for him at a time when we might have been still quite uncertain about Juninho's return). Plus, he's still pretty young. Having said that, he never looked very good for the Galaxy in his limited playing time this year. If he did stay, even his $51K salary looks high.

 

Yes, but do you want to risk losing Omar for nothing? He'll have plenty more options to choose once he's able to sign a pre-contract. Also if he leaves on a free, his salary will be higher because the club won't have had to pay a transfer fee for him, and will be negotiating against other clubs to sign Omar. The one thing people forget about is as USMNT fans, we all want our guys to get playing time in Europe, many of our players going overseas #1 priority is money (and it should be) to go along with the higher competition.

And on the flip side, moving in the winter leaves him in far better shape for the following season than showing up in preseason, where he'll still have to move, get adjusted to the culture (potentially language), teammates, etc.

Geoff Cameron had only been practicing with Stoke for 2 weeks before the EPL season began (because of transfer negotiations and Work Permit approval) and adjusted fast. Bocanegra immediately became a starter at Fulham and he was a January transfer.

If Omar transfers to a Bundesliga team, he'll have the luxury of the German winter break where they go into a training camp in a warmer climate and play a few friendlies before the 2nd half of the season begins.

 

Any thoughts on certain prospects coming up in the Re-entry draft? We have the lowest seed obviously due to the team's epicness, but by chance should certain players be left standing by the time its LA's turn, I wouldn't mind the team taking a punt.

Judging by the list, should Feilhaber, Avila, Paulo Jr., or Hartman still be available once LA has the pick, I say they are worth an offer, especially Feilhaber. He is easily the most talented of the bunch (Hartman being the most experienced, Paulo the cheapest and Avila probably being the fastest), and knowing his desire to stay in Jurgen's radar, a transfer to LA to play for Bruce Arena and be in town during Camp Cupcake could make him willing to be flexible on the salary.

 

I know Colin Clark has had acl injuries, but he's a left midfielder. Depth?

 

Avila is a talented, versatile midfielder, and I think he might even be a local kid. He'd be good depth.
