It's never too early to look to the future is it? Which got me to thinking. Rather than get down about another cup final loss to the Beckhams, I thought it'd be nice to point to reasons for optimism and prepare for 2013. Feel free to add.

    1. There's only one Corey Ashe. Seriously, he's one of he best at his position and it's a testament to the coaching staff that he's performing at this level.

    2. Kofi Sarkodie. Another former whipping boy has progressed rapidly as of late.

    3. While the center backs might be a tad slow, there's quality depth at the position.

    4. Tyler Deric is the backup keeper.

    5. Garcia, Davis, and Clark will have more time to work on their chemistry.

    6. The play of Calen Carr. The Dynamo were a different team when he came off of the field today.

    So, to paraphrase Bum Phillips:

Last year we knocked on the door. This year we beat on the door. Next year, we're going to kick the son of a bitch in.!

That's what I'm saying!!! Tally Hall as are main guy in the net as well has been immense this entire campaign. That cup is coming home real soon...our midfield will definitely be something fierce.

There's good reason to be optimistic. Most key players appear to be signed for next year. A full year of Boniek should help chemistry. Core guys are getting older but not yet to the cliff (save Ching).

I hope we'll know more in the next month what the salary cap situation is, guys rolling off of GA status, Cameron allocation money, etc. On its face, it would appear we should be able to keep most of who we want to have back.

If I had to list what appear to be hurdles or hindrances for next year it would be as follows:

    1) The law of averages in making 3 finals in a row. The league and cap is designed to make this difficult to do and maybe getting the breaks we got this year you don't get next year.

    2) Injuries - Dynamo avoided any real critical season-ending injuries this year. Had a few knocks late but law of averages say as many games as we have played the last 2 years plus a likely heavy schedule next year, injuries may occur.

We also probably have a very short offseason. I would think with a March 2nd season start date, we'd be looking at like a January 15th training camp date. That's about 6 weeks from today. 6 weeks ago was the Philly home finale at BBVA Compass. That's not much time off.

    3) International calendar - 2013 is a very heavy international year for CONCACAF teams. Which means depending upon our roster composition we'll have some guys out a bunch.

I think it's time to make a bid for Drogba. :p

Seriously though, money did not help RBNY. I think that Dom has a good formula by scouting in The Americas.

    - We are very deep and diverse team, and CCL helped us as much as it hurt us. We had our fair share of minor injuries, but we've had more of our fair share of major ones in years past as well.
    - The short offseason will be tough, but again could help us along with CCL get a good start out of the box, which we haven't really done well in many of the past years.
    - Looking forward to a full season of Glenn Barnes. If he could ever get into Brad Davis/Wade Barrett shape, he could be a deadly pick-up.
    - It will be fun to watch the tweaks made, but they will only be tweaks really. We have a solid core with good interchangeable parts.

This right here. I know other teams are scared of us already, if we could improve our road form just a bit we could take the SS and play at BBVA next year! That would be a dream and actually not such a faraway dream it's very doable with our squad and our great coach. #VivaLaDynamo!!

Yup. Hosting the game at BBVA is one way to overcome a 3 to 1 DP disadvantage. :D

Didn't we have a team record point total this year and still finish barely qualifying? I'm not sure if that's right but it seems like I read it somewhere.

Correct, although this is only the 2nd year we played 34 games. We played 32 in 2006 and 30 from 2007 - 2010.

Ah, then that would explain part of it. We've had a lot of ties at home and some road losses so I didn't thnk it sounded exactly right. I'm expecting all wins at home and no road losses to guarantee home field next year.

So is it too early to start speculating on what our new Jerseys are going to look like? I'm pretty certain they're going to be Orange but how do you make it more unique than what we currently have? I personally love the current design, I feel it's extremely unique and it matches well with our team.

I actually dont like ours. Of all the years I think these are the worst. I went to soccer4all on Tuesday and asked and they said they didn't have any idea yet other than they will be out in February and that third kits will be authentic only again.

I thought that I had heard the opposite about the third kits at Soccer4All. They were also tight-lipped about the 2013 shirts.

I don't think they were being tight lipped, they've always told me things under the table, I really think they don't know yet, at least not my store. As far as the third kits they might have been mistaken but that's what they said.

I'm not a big fan of the collar. Reminds me of youth soccer in the 1980s.

There's still that rumored issue about replacing Greenstar as the sponsor. There is probably a drop-dead date by which they have to get that in place before orders go in.

Those are just pressed on no? There's a lot of Dynamo jerseys with no sponsor on eBay so I assume they are pressed on afterwards.

They are pressed on. That's why you can just peel it away. Haven't you seen Turtle's 09 jersey? He just peeled off the Amigo Energy part. Hahahaha

That's what Im saying, so they really don't have to wait for the sponsorship thing. They can get the jerseys ready and shipped and then worry about pressing on the sponsorship at the last minute.
